Holding it's value is only meaningful if you plan to resell down the road for whatever reason. Let's take Doctor Strange Blufans for example, highly sought after, low print run, obviously worth more than the retail price due to these factors.. now am I going to be happy to own it because of those reasons or because I like the movie and collect Marvel Blufans steels?

I remember getting into this game years ago when Play.com exclusive steelbooks were considered rare and high value like Predator, Star Trek and Iron Man, these steels have dropped loads in value today but people desired them due to their value. Suffice to say this happens even now, John Wick Novamedia has suddenly surged in price due to the sequel, will no doubt drop and come up again when part 3 is released.

The real value of these steelbooks isn't monetary, it's more what we individually value them at. How many of us have friends in the real world who collect these? I can hazard a guess to say not many and even less who go to the financial lengths we do to get the sixth copy of Winter Soldier or the fourth copy of Suicide Squad. There's a reason we come here and its cause we all like this hobby and no one here judges the other for spending an average £50 on a movie in a metal case dozens of times a year, "normal" people outside of this community..this fandom...us collectors would scoff and call us idiots. I agree with @lgans316 to one degree, we make great personal sacrifices financially to do this hobby. The amount I spend every six months could probably take me and my family away for the week on holiday/vacation. It's actually kinda selfish when I think about it in those terms. Alas, it's my thing and thats why I value it. I like the movies, I like the steels, I like the lenticulars and like coming here daily to HDN. It's like my family outside my family..that doesn't judge me for skinting myself monthly for a movie collection which mainly consists of several copies of the same movies lol

No it's not (only) for reselling. Of course I like the movies, the steelbooks and the slips. But I ALSO like to know that I possess something valuable which not everybody has. It's like all collectables.
Or do you consider your collection being valuable a bad thing? ;)

When I have over a hundred steelbooks which probably cost on average £50 a pop, some more, some less, I obviously consider them valuable. But they're more valuables to me than 'valuable' because they are collectors pieces I intend to keep and not to sell. If i'm not going to sell them then what difference does the market value have to me?

Like I said, it's for my own satisfaction :)
So you don't care, and you don't like your collection being valuable (market value)?

What is market value? Can you tell me definitively what any of these steels are worth? What you gonna go by, eBay where prices fluctuate, classifieds or other forums where everyone wants something for as cheap as possible? The answer is no, your prized steel in your collection could be worth f all tomorrow. I don't worry about that. I've sold many steels at a loss because they are only worth what people are willing to pay on any given day.

My collection is valuable to me, I gots lots of cool steels of movies I like. I don't buy **** films just because the steel is rare and "valuable" nor do I get cheap thrills over the fact I have rare steels of some of the cool films I like and they are worth more than I paid for them now.

Of course market values are defined through supply and demand and change frequently. But you definitely can tell what people are willing to pay for a certain steelbook in average in a certain periode. There is even a thread here on HDN where you can ask for the values (I know it's just an orientation).

But we are not here to discuss what is market values. Everybody knows it. We are talking about you know it's valuable (which many people are looking for). Like i.e. Future shop Iron Man: if you had it, I really doubt that you wouldn't enjoy the fact that it's a rare collectable. :)

Define rare? If you compare Iron Man futureshop to say I dunno, Filmarenas Elektra, which is more rare? I'm pretty sure there were more than 300 editions sold of the Iron Man from futureshop which technically makes it less rare than the 300 Elektras from filmarena. Define valuable, again, based on after market price. Definitely isn't 'that' rare if I can pick both of these up on ebay several times over if I wanted to spend the cash.

How valuable would Iron man be if Novamedia decide to do an exclusive and use the same exact art work and finish? We've seen it with Kingsman, could very well happen again. All of a sudden your precious steel drops in value cause an exact more readily available alternative hits the market. Again, I don't care about rarity or by whatever means you define valuable.

Covcraig I bloody hope so because I want the first so bad! But I can't bring myself to spend upwards of £70 on it! But the rest of what you said but about not being judged here unlike with family and friends I couldn't have put it better myself!!

The lenticulars are both being released by novamedia again without the steelbooks. I'm sure that'll drop the prices down

Awesome!! Is that with the stabsard amaray cases yeah? I didn't think to just but that Edition and get myself a John Wick steel and stick it in but saying that it might not be big enough!
