Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

For Transformers the first release didn´t have a inside art too, so i think the transformers Steels aren´t that bad, but the other re-releases are really just cheap productions and not worth their money. You better should try to get the original releases even if they are a little more expensive. You won´t get happy with the re-releases. They are only for making money!

re-releases from Germany for me are disappointing. I will never get one again. Don´t care about cheap, i love steels but not crap, and low print quality with no inside art NO thanks!, that sucks man.

I don’t know if it’s just me being hyper critical, but these really do seem like poor reproductions :(

Inception & The Hangover are actually pretty good print wise, save for the sodding FSK logo, but the others honestly look like knock offs imo.

I’m looking forward to my FS Hangover 2 arriving. I bought and have already watched the German release, but again I feel the paint is a little too transparent on the front. If the FS release has a better paint job, then I am officially giving up on German releases. I am already finished with the re-release crud.

Does anyone have the original Sucker Punch.de, if so is the paintwork solid & glossy?

I opened my Star Trek yesterday ... (DE) My god, awesome touch ... total glossy feel. I've seen gloss steels before without the glossy feel ... so they did a fine job on this one.

To me, re-releases of that magnitude are fine for regular blu-ray consumers who happen to get a metal case instead. Not for Steelbook Collectors, unless you are making a mini-shrine of a particular movie etc. In which case you feel forced to pick it up. ;p

They should be poorly made. They **** on the collector with these re-releases. Send a message by not buying them.

I am talking about the the ones they used the same artwork on btw.

Yeah I'm glad they are poorly made, if they are gonna re-release then make them so they arent wanted by the collectors and let them reside for the mass market.

As a collector, and believe me when I say I have a lot of Steel, I'm glad the re-releases are different. I picked up the Sucker Punch re-release and you can easily distinguish it from the original. What really gets my goat is when ones that are "on the list" get re-released and you cannot tell them apart from the original, a classic case in point being Underworld Trilogy which only differs by the shrinkwrap they used and one version having a pull strip in the wrap whereas the other didn't. As a result the original which was highly prized lost virtually all its value.

Need help with Steelbooks

I need help. I am new to steelbooks and need help with finding places to order them. Until recently I had no idea what a steelbook was. I happened upon one at Walmart and fell in love. Now it's an obsession. When I go to get BluRays now i want steelbooks and it seems the regular BluRays in the blu cases are just cheap. I dream of steelbooks. Please someone help with legit sites. I've tried some but they don't seem to ship to the USA. I need my steelbook fix.

Try any Amazon (.co.uk, .de, .ca, .it, .co.jp etc) they will all ship to the US. HMV.com do as well. There is a thread with a list of retailers which should be helpful to you as well.

Once you've found your way around and got to 30 posts there is also the trading forum which will be open to you as well as group buys.

Welcome, good luck and get ready to spend a lot of money! :oohyeah:

I have Transformers 1 & 2 re-releases, and I think they look good. But I know that they don't have inside artwork, and even tho I don't open my steels, it somehow bothers me!

I guess I'll stick to original releases or other countries steels when they are available.

Following on from my rant about German re-releases, here are some pictures. They don't fully show the difference, but in had you can tell the print is of a lower quality

Here are some pics, Transforms has a tiny dot in the bluray banner with no paint

Transformers 1 & 2.de re-print. It looks too pixelated in person :(

Sucker Punch.de reprint. It's not terrible, but.....

Originals

Mosters German, the print is excellent

Sin City.ca. If you can be bothered to zoom, the coulour is solid and there is a lot more detail, especially the tounge

Sucker Punch.ca. What can I say, the quality is simply fantastic.

However.... Inception.de is actually ok, print wise anyways

In summary, the German re-prints are rubbish mostly & I am done with them that's for shizzle

Go to ebay for older stuff...but the newer ones are great to get too..especially that their prices are still cheaper...welcome to the group and good luck with the hunt...beware the urge to buy everything! :D

HMV eBay shop?

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/hmv_uk_limited/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

Anyone know if this is a genuine eBay account for HMV or just someone using the name? I know Zavvi have an eBay account so quite possible.

Much of the stock seems to be damaged stock being sold cheap - steelbooks probably not worth getting for collectors, but might be worth keeping bookmarked for any future deals.

Was tempted by the Inception briefcase, but it's not clear how badly damaged it is..

MODS - had no idea where to put this, so please move if needed :)

Hmmm, I don't know Ant...a little weird that they are listing these as 'private', but I suppose it's possible they use the Ebay account to move 'returns' or damaged stock, etc.and want to somehow keep it separate from store. A little odd, that they only sold that much since May, given how big they are. I guess you could call or e-mail HMV directly to see if this is official.

Looks legit...A look under Business seller information gives:
