Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

So do`s that mean the up coming Play.com exclusives, are ltd ONLY to them. As i`ve heard somewhere, (on here) that they are ltd to about 4K.
I still dont understand why some films like.....X Men..First Class, Captain America, Thor etc...become as expensive as they do, when they are released all over the world. (And all look the same). I suppose its the fact that they are worldwide blockbusters, and more (regular) people want to own a special edition, of said film, where as 4K copies of an obscure little movie, may never sell out, because there are not 4000 people who want it??? So it never rises in price or rareness. I.E...."Akira". I bought 2 copies on its (3000???) copies release, one for me, one to trade later. They are still being sold on most sites, for as little as £10. Bummed out on that one!!! :dunno:

I believe Akira had much more than your # quoted. fyi

If its a good movie, and popular and its 4k ... get it.

Some of the more popular movies like Thor , even with numerous releases can hold such value as you got a lot of normal consumers who know nothing of steelbook collecting who buy it. So it sells easier.

A good example for those of us here in the USA; is that when a steelbook releases the same day as the regular amaray and the price is the same and/or just a couple bucks more then all the regular consumers "grab the one in the metal case" ... but dont even know its called a steelbook. So for the steelbook collectors going in, they think "oh man this is rare, hardly any in store or its already sold out" But if the price is $10 higher like many of the Disney steelbooks that were released a few years ago they stuck around FOREVER as all the normal consumers didnt want to spend that much more for a steelbook.

^^^ I was one of those consumers that saw the higher price for Disney steels. I was like screw that!!!! I'm not paying that much for a metal case!! Now I look back and I tell myself.....Damn I should of bought them when i had the chance:(:banghead:

04 June Play.Com Pre Orders Processing

Yippee. :scat:
Just checked my orders with Play, and the 3 Steels i have ordered, (Taken, Fight Club & Braveheart), the order details have changed from "Pre Ordered", to.... "Processing In Warehouse". Should be on the way very soon, so any pre`s anyone has.....we may get em earlier than the 4th.
Only prob, the cover designs are still the same, so maybe they are as advertised, but there is still NO details about extras. I hope they are not "Barebones".
Looks like a weekend of new Blu`s, (I hope)...:movie::smashed:

My orders are also processing, probably get the email today, got a few copies of Taken, A-team, Alien Anthology and Man on Fire on the way. 14 Steelbooks in all coming my way, hope they come MINT like the last wave.

wrong section mate this is for steelbook releases
Sorry Karl. I did say "Steels". Its the Steels i pre ordered and are now processing. I take it, it was the mention "A weekend of Blu`s" that you are talking about.???????
I just thought i`d mention that they may be on their way soon.

:emb: I think i was quoting the UK release of about 3000. (Again, i better think before posting.) I believe the worldwide release was 10k, which would make 3K for the UK a probability. But like i said, in the UK, there are loads being sold for about a tenner. So i again assume that a (small/cult film) like Akira may struggle to sell 10K worldwide, while a huge blockbuster like "Captain America" or "Thor", can sell 40K + worldwide, and its still harder to find than hens teeth. Lol.

Akira did originally have a production run of 10,000. That was quickly increased during production due to the demand, and the final amount printed is unknown. My guess is x 6. Akira was never quoted as having only 3,000 copies.

Don't know if it's been mentioned recently or not, but a little disappointed with amazon.fr's packaging.

I ordered 3 steelbooks (Mission Impossible 4, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Ten Commandments). They decided to ship Mission Impossible 4 and The Ten Commandments 2 days prior to the release day of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so Dragon Tattoo arrived packaged separately.

Dragon Tattoo was shipped in a cardboard fold over with no bubble wrapping and arrived dented.

The Ten Commandments and Mission Impossible 4 came in a large box, but only Mission Impossible 4 was enclosed in their special steelbook packaging in the box, and The Ten Commandments was just laying on top of it with no protection. The Ten Commandments came with a small scratch. In my opinion, they should have waited the two days and shipped everything in one box, and used the special steelbook packaging on all steelbooks.

In any case, I emailed amazon, and they are sending replacements for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Ten Commandments. Hopefully they get it right this time!

This is what happened with an order of Judge Dredd I did from amazon.de a couple months back. I ordered like 6 copies. 4 were in the bubble wrap, wrap over and then the other two were completely loose in the bigger box.

We had a good run for a while there amazon europe. :( :ohno:

Same thing from my amazon.de order as well, with the Matrix Trilogy. Ordered two. One came in the steelbook packaging, and the other was just laying on top. Luckily those arrived unscathed.

Looks like they are cost cutting on the 'frustration free' packaging

It's almost like our orders are processed by the one dude that's hurrying to get to his smoke break.

Screw it, I'm not going to wrap these other steels! They should just be happy with the one I did wrap! :hilarious: :p

I've been having a few issues with Amazon Germany as well. I ordered several Kill Bill yellow suit editions and only 2 arrived mint. Same issue with Transformers. All of them had dents/chips. So they issued new ones, and they ALL arrived damaged. So they are all going back. It's becoming too frequent a recurrence. :(

Heres an odd question, maybe FoG or someone can answer this. What does FutureShop do with returned steelbooks (opened ones, not sealed)?

In the past I have returned steels that have damage to get new ones and have always wondered what happens to the damaged ones. Do they send them back to the studio or what?

I am going to be returning my copy of Sherlock Holmes because of a dent on the back and a tiny dent on the bottom.

I think I'm going to start banning people from my eBay auctions for asking stupid questions. I'll hit the limit inside a week at this rate. It's like people just hit the question button without looking at the listing, or the photo, or the title. And after their brain has been starved of oxygen for an hour.

I don't know the entire process, but when you take them back to the store and they are opened, the customer service representative will return the steelbook as "defective". From there, at the end of the day they will get taken to the warehouse and put in a cage with all of the other defective items returned that day, and then later in the week they will be shipped out of the store.

I don't know what happens after that though :dunno:

They get a credit with the distributor i suppose and it keeps going down the line. Probably sold off to 3rd world/small Countries. I read an article once how gamestop was making MAJOR moohlah selling ps2 games in some small latin american Countries. So they pay next to nothing on trade in here in states then ship off to those small Countries for huge profits.

Who knows, those Countries wouldnt care about a ding/dent etc.

Wouldn't region coding be a problem(for movies)?

Chances of Japan/Korea Batman Steelbook release elsewhere?

Im new to this, been around for a bit but just getting into the steelbook thing

I've seen the Japan and Korea Batman covers and I don't know why but I really like them. Problem is obviously the Batman is no longer available and already going for over a hundred dollars on ebay. Right now I just don't have that kind of money for it and it will most likely just go up, so basically kiss that goodbye.

So I do some research and it seems this cover art started in Germany on a digibook, them went to Japan for a steelbook and then Korea. Its also being released again on an Amaray cover as well.

So I ask, before I go on the hunt to try and find that elusive Batman Begins, how often do they resuse cover art like that? I know some are used more then others, but this one in pretty unique it seems.

What are the odds of a steelbook coming out with the same cover art in another region? Or if I really want that art bite the bullet and pay the big money for the Batman.

I know people aren't going to like this answer, but i say the chances are pretty high... It was a "Japan Exclusive" first and then before you knew it Korea had it, and people weren't too happy about that.... I wouldn't be surprised if the same steelie popped up elsewhere.
