How much pain am I in ?

Well the answer to that is .... lots.

As some of you might know, I had spinal fusion surgery in July last year. Unfortunately the aftermath included a fair few side effects, huge amounts of pain, severe lack of sleep and having to learn to walk again. Chuck in a hefty bout of depression and I wasn't having a fun time.

Fast forward, and I have the joy of coming off my medication - cue withdrawal symptoms. Body wracked with pain, and other unpleasant things I won't mention here.

Before the operation I noticed pains in my face and chin. When the op happened and I was on painkillers, I forgot about it as it kind of faded into the background - still there but I was concentrating on other things.

Now coming off my medication, the pain has increased, and increased and continued increasing.

I've now been diagnosed with Trigeminal neuralgia - and no, it's not as fun as it sounds. Massive shocks of pain continuously through-out the day. Some lasting a few seconds, some a lot longer.

I'm really just wondering how much more I can take. I can't sleep - I've lost 2 stone in weight since late last year - I'm kind of a mess.

I've no idea where this post is going really. I guess it's just an outlet to rant/air my woes.

Not looking for sympathy posts, but just for people to understand if I get a little bit ratty in a post, I might not be feeling my best.

At least I can walk again now :)

Have you thought about a tens machine? Or will that be difficult because of scaring?. Accupuncture maybe as well . Also a mega good pharmacist could have some idea of what is on the market.
?
GP's have not got a clue and the consultant is talk to the GP's GGGRRR.

If it makes you feel any better, I've been trying to lose 2 stone for a few years now without success so you can count yourself lucky! :p

Bud, it's good to know you are still here and able to share this with us. Hopefully you can continue to look at all the positive things and it doesn't get much worse for you, as it sounds like you've been through quite an ordeal over the last year.

There's plenty of us here regularly to chat with if you need. Even if we aren't posting we are still here most of the time. This community cares a lot about it's fellow ninjas and hopefully that can help you out to some degree when it gets really tough.

That said, I probably won't be any more useful with my advise than my opening sentence!! Gotta stay positive mate ;)

I know you said that you didn't want sympathy, but I truly hope you start feeling better, and try to stay positive. :) I know that's easier said than done sometimes, but it's the best advice I can give. ;)

Ouch. I've only ever had minor back problems due to sport injuries compared to anything like this, so I can only imagine. So you are getting my sympathy even if you don't want it. ;)

Get better mate. Hopefully the forum and collecting offer some relief. :)

It´s funny (or not) but I often think of how lucky I am. No, this post wont bost you maybe, but sometimes it´s strange how many things we take for certain. We kind of get spoiled and then all of a sudden we moan about having missed the bus or having a cold (manly one).

2009 I worked in Sudan for over a year and that experience changed a lot for me. Meeting people dying in diseases that could easily been cured over here was a bit heartbreaking. I took some time off (too much according to some) and visited orphanages for disabeld kids nobody wanted. I collected money and loads of stuff I donated to them.

No, I am no saint it´s not about that but when I feel low I have to remind myself that I am acctually a lucky guy born in a country where I am free and having access to food, shelter, security, hospital and police etc.

I am not the least saying that you don`t have the right to complain and it might be a cliche, but boy there are people having it way worse then us.

You will bounce back mnementh. Trust your Ninja powers! :)
