In conjunction with Worldwide Packaging supplier List thread

A lot of folks are fully aware of how to pack a Steelbook to avoid dents and damage. However, this is still a good thread for new collectors to look over so that they know how to avoid such damage.

1) Use a box
2) Use plenty of bubble wrap.

Some people have been able to get away with using bubble mailers and plenty of packing, but its still nothing something I would personally recommend.

This is actually a package I got from our forum member "BlurayJunkie"

Even when shipping internationally he was able to use a United States Priority Mail box by wrapping it first in paper. Good idea, as you can get those boxes for free. (if you live in the US)

Found these while looking @ postage cost in AU, big saving on postage cost using this method

check this out

Order some of these, the postage cost will only be $6.65 (500g) with signature anywhere in Australia.[/QUOTE]

The satchel thing works well. My sister was there visiting her friends and I gave her a box of 12 steelbooks to ship to fellow collector there. Everything arrived without a hitch. Sure beats mailing the box from Canada.

Anybody know where to buy boxes to ship Steels in? I've seen Literature Mailers as popular choices on various forums, but I can't seem to find any a la carte as they always seem to be sold in bundles of 50.

Yeah, any boxes worth their salt (ie - sturdy enough) are sold in bulk.

I prefer the ones from uline.

I have a couple of question for my fellow Canadians!

What would be the best way to ship from here (I'm in Quebec) to Spain per se?

I want to ship 4 steelbooks to Spain, so around 1.2 kg weight in total. Went quickly to the Post Office today, and they quoted me $71 (EEK!) for Xpresspot (package would arrive in 5 days tho), or $38 by boat (1 or 2 months to arrive EEK!EEK!). These are the only ways Canada Post offers for sending a package with tracking.

My question is: is there a better way with another company?

I mean $71 is definitely a deal killer, and 2 months to deliver increases the chances of a lost package. I'm in a pickle, please help :(

Did you ask about those white boxes they sell??

You could also use those silver envloppes and just pack the steelbook with plastic bubble wrapping for added preotection. You should be able to get a tracking number @d much lowere cost. Might take a bit longer to get ther like 7-10 business days

Cheers!!

Yes I was going to use one the boxes they are selling, the small model would have been ok. The prices that I have mentionned in my previous post were for this small box with the 4 steels inside.

7-10 business days is not a problem, and to be honest no, I haven't asked about those silver envelopes but I will!
Thanks for the tip Shanester :)

You did get lucky on that - you should check out the damaged steelbook / sympathy thread in the main steelbook forum for examples of how bad it can go when they aren't packaged right. :(

that's actually what i was looking for but couldn't find it lol

thanks!

so you bought a steelbook from HMV.COM? :D that's how they packaged steelbook. I had one bent in half..looks like someone put a heavy box on top of it and smashed the hmv box and dented the steelbook inside. After a month, I received a refund, including partial shipping fees back to them. Keep in mind hmv.come does not refund the full amount back to them. If costs you $20 to ship it back to them, then they only refund $7 back to you :(

Now that is what I call ridiculous. I ordered from eBay. I'm really considering only buying from members in this forum cause you all know how to do it right!

with eBay, I always asked if they can ship it with cardboard and bubble protection. If they said no, then I look away.

recently, I asked one seller if he can do that and he said he will only ship it in an envelope, so I looked away. He responded back since he saw no one bid on it and asked me if I was scared by his response about packaging. I told him that I didn't want to waste both of our time in asking for a refund if it is dented due to his improper packaging :)

some people do not understand how we collectors are paranoid about dented steelbook :)
