In conjunction with Worldwide Packaging supplier List thread

A lot of folks are fully aware of how to pack a Steelbook to avoid dents and damage. However, this is still a good thread for new collectors to look over so that they know how to avoid such damage.

1) Use a box
2) Use plenty of bubble wrap.

Some people have been able to get away with using bubble mailers and plenty of packing, but its still nothing something I would personally recommend.

This is actually a package I got from our forum member "BlurayJunkie"

Even when shipping internationally he was able to use a United States Priority Mail box by wrapping it first in paper. Good idea, as you can get those boxes for free. (if you live in the US)

By the way - I keep getting asked by new members on here and via ebay 'do you use bubblewrap etc?!' I mean, come on man, look at my frikkin' feedback! I know some people are being ultra cautious but flippin 'ell.

I'd only ask that if the member i was dealing with was new, otherwise I'd certainly EXPECT good wrapping here with HDN members!

Even God agrees, he's crying right now.

Am I reading right? Royal Mail has free boxes to ship stuff in? Currently I rely on using HMV/Play/Amazon packaging but I need LOADS of the stuff in next few weeks

Any idea where I can get Bubble wrap in the UK cheap as well?

I use them for both (international & Domestic) and have had no issues although I always reinforce it with extra padding.

I have used the play boxes on several occasions in the u.k . don't think i could trust the box on international destinations , always best to use plenty of bubble wrap in a bigger box then add more foam :)

I've used Play boxes for International...never had an issue with them.

I can't stand it when people use tape - I don't see the point in it if you've used enough bubblewrap.(plus the steel won't moved because of this) I never use tape, ever.

I've been using the play boxes with the original foam and also wraping them in a layer of bubble wrap as well, seems OK but wanted to check on the opinions on acceptability by other members.

Right bubble wrap and tape sorted Just need boxes now. Anyone know where to buy say 50 boxes suitable for domestic or international postage that would fit a well wrapped Steelbook in?

These look perfect! Anywhere to get them in the UK?

Hi ODB some info in this thread about boxes mate

Nice one mate, ordered some of the 1-2 ones, I figure I'll just strap them together which in theory should provide more protection

Ordered 100m of bubble and some 'Fragile' packing tape too so should be ready to go in a couple of days. Just ordered a new PC case in anticipation too

...it has begun

I've been re-using Play boxes for UK, Europe & even To the USA & Canada without any issues as yet :)

Boxes came today...impressed with that!

still waiting on my bubble wrap and fragiletape but in the meantime picked up enough for the 3 trades here I have

So for example pulp fictions. Wrapped 1 layer over 1, stuck other one on top and then rolled in about 3-4 layers together to sandwich them together but with a layer in between. Taped them at the end. Then wrapped a bit of cardboard around the waste to bumper it a bit then put in box.

Wish I'd done pics now but that sounds enough right?

Personally rarely bother with FRAGILE tape now as it makes no difference to how the parcel is handled by the carrier; they're all chucked around. Also it's not really strong enough for wrapping either imo unless there is other tape. I have been using a mixture of Clear Wide 3M Scotch tape and standard brown parcel tape for large (and small) boxes. Best tape I've used is Clear Wide 3M Box Sealing tape which came with a tape dispenser Gun from CostCo. Haven't found it "out in the wild" yet.

Never had complaint about a play box yet, domestically or Internationally.

Sorry mate but I'd never send anything without at least 5-6 wraps of bubblewrap and a sturdy cardboard box - just incase the postman decides to sit on or play football with it ;o

Excuse me Mate, but don`t always blame it on the Postman -i`m one working for the German Post/ DHL and i never sit or play Football with Packages

No worries shipping like that within Germany - especially with you guys. ...but I don't trust your workmates across the border.

Does anybody know where to buy boxes that are similar to that of play.com?

or alternatively, boxes that can fit a steelbook and have a total weight of ~250 grams?

As far as I know the post office never give any boxes for free, their cheapest box is something like £1.50 and that could easily fit 3-4 steels, wilkinsons is the best place for bubble wrap and wrapping materials,
I just received my oz steel and am desperately trying to find the white boxes they were sent in as they are perfect, :)

Not sure if anybody in this thread has brought this up, but it's illegal to use free priority boxes for anything but priority mailing. They also list priority all over the inside for those like myself who used to turn them inside out for other type shipments.

How serious is this offense?

I know of a mailer who was caught stealing priority boxes, sent to prison for 6 years after a long heated trial - came out with nazi tattoo's all over his face, and a bit of an attitude towards soap.

Alright - I kid! - but it is illegal. I know cause I was caught doing it. :naughty:
