The fine folks at /r/steelbooks have a good idea that I think could work well here.

Share a picture or pictures of your most recent “grail” discovery.

A “GRAIL” is an edition that might have taken you a while to find, has a good story about how you found it, or is important to you in some way. Grail does NOT indicate value. A $5 find at a thrift store could be a grail to you!

1) where you found it (RETAILER, MARKETPLACE, THRIFT STORE, etc)
2) who produced the edition (if it's a premium or retailer exclusive, please note to help other members! Filmarena, Reel Synergy, BluFans, Zavvi Exclusive, etc)
3) your own picture
4) share your story, if you can!
5) (optional) if you traded for it, what was the trade or how much you might have purchased it for.

INITIAL THREAD GIVEAWAY DETAILS
To kick off this thread and to keep it going, there will be at least one giveaway, maybe more if there’s enough participation!

The more grails you post in single / individual posts, the better chances become!

Prize list:

1 winners of 4k Blu-ray COMPLETE Indiana Jones set
2 winners of 4k Blu-ray Godfather Trilogy set

I‘ve got the Fight Club full slip (and La La Land sl) reserved in @tha_lunatic ‘s sales thread. So in about five years I‘ll be a proud owner of those two editions :coffee:

Was about to post my very own Hdzeta GRAIL SuckerPunch OC, thank you @KarlieFloss !!!

I got this one too, Sucker Punch is one of my all-time favorites, and I liked when HDZeta had all different contents in their fullslips, plus one exclusive to the One-Click with just exactly the stuff I like and buy these for - more cards and another booklet!
But mine is sealed still, I look at all the pretty pictures in the artbook:

I'd like to know the films that are locked on DVD only. Please post those.
It's crazy to think that even some large scale movies haven't even seen a HD mastering on Blu Ray!
Yeah, lots of them, although about half of those I listed in my Wish List did get Blu-rays over the past 10 years here and there. Some only in the form of those Spanish bootlegs, that I started buying.

One of my Top 5 movies, Hurlyburly, still has no BD release, and not even an HD streaming file or digital copy. Awesome cast, and Meg Ryan plays a prostitute, which was way against typecast in 1998 for her.

HurlyburlyR101.jpg

Zero Effect is another favorite that I'm still waiting on BD.

ZeroEffectR101.jpg

Then there's the infamous Panic Room.
I got most of these tucked away somewhere, so will use old, small photos.

PanicRoomSER2UKV1.jpg

PanicRoomSER2UKV2.jpg

PanicRoomSER2UKV3.jpg

Speaking of Panic, this forgotten hitman dramedy with William H. Macy and my favorite actress Neve Campbell isn't out either:

Not just smaller films like that are missing, but award nominated Bulworth with Warren Beatty, controversial Wag the Dog with Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman, scandalous films of Todd Solondz Happiness, and Storytelling.

But I can understand why this misogynistic film probably won't ever be released in today's society:

My mini-review with screenshots in the thread 'In the Company of Men (1997)' https://www.hidefninja.com/community/threads/in-the-company-of-men-1997.114263/post-2458384

CONfidence is another 'grail' film I love and am surprised still isn't on Blu-ray, given its star power.

R1 DVD

R2 UK

If that isn't out in HD, what hope there's for such smaller films starring both of these actresses, Rachel Weisz and Neve Campbell:

If I had to pick one in my collection it would be the UK Ex Machina.

Some others I’m glad that I own:

The Seven is the first premium that I bought. I didn’t even know what premiums were but I stumbled across this site and saw the thread listing the release date and link to the old Manta Lab site.

The Exorcist is just the ugly matte Best Buy steelbook, but it’s the first one that I ever modified and so I had to put it in here.

As I’m typing this I am thinking that I could have added my Bullitt steelbook (German). I like that one, too.

Oh, it's a Limited Edition Artbook in a hardbox fullslip, but the rest of the stuff is sold separately - steelbook with one set of character cards, another set from another Blu-ray edition. It's just a photo I had of it.

Yeah, it's a good digipack, and at the very least you'll be able to put a BD or UHD disc in it, when/if one comes out only in a regular crappy amaray. Maybe even not all the extras will be carried over.

Another special one to me. Back when kimchi where In their prime and Blu Collection still existed. Used to be my favs before manta came along. Took a few replacement steels to get a perfect copy but finally worked out (think it was 3rd time lucky)

Absolutely mad over this film

And the absolute king of Blu Collection grails.
Was late to this one but managed to get it from a Ninja here years and years ago. It’s been so long I genuinely can’t remember who it was (sorry).

Incredible use of transitional lenti too. One of the best and my favourites along with mantas fight club DL and the blufans zootopia single lenti. Also love the use of the extras being items from film. You don’t see much of that with steel premiums except with the EB releases and of course the reel synergy releases

It's been a while since I've posted! :hidefninja:

Braveheart UK play.com...This steel is always on my display. For me it's a simplistic yet powerful image, the awesome looking sword with blood dripping down to form a blood heart. I just wish the finish was more high end, maybe a satin matte?
Funny story...way back when I was an OCD open mint ninja  it took 3 sealed copies from eBay to make this steelbook. I took the front off one and the back off the other and sold the not so mint copy. It was perfectly fine, you could only notice blemishes up close, but OCD open mint will not stand for that.

HMV Drive. I know this is a pretty typical steel people call their grails but it's for a different reason! Adding artwork to the inside is what makes this a personal grail for me.
The amount of stress I went through using a blow dryer and a box cutter to slice through the spine without bending or scratching off the black paint. This is also one of my favorite parts of the film and it looks awesome in hand!

Minority Report UK. Another go at printing and installing custom artwork, this also has a fully printed jcard on back...it's glorious and that alone is grail worthy. The scene with him testing out his new eyes is terrifying

That's probably my favourite transitional lenti in my collection. Love the way blu used to personalise all the extras to the film, this one was particularly special though. Rarely see that level of attention to detail. I love manta, but it's very much a production line effort from them at times.

It was Kimchi who released that run of Memento wasn't it?

I don't think there was another distributor who picked up this film for a Steelbook back in the day. Wonder if it'll get a 4k upgrade.
I'd buy any WWA or Premium WEA.

The film doesn't get the mainstream love it deserves. Total Film magazine in the UK back in the late 90s ran an indie film maker section at the back of their monthly magazine, they featured Nolan from the very start, beginning with 'The Following' then 'Memento'; after that film was a critical success and he'd landed the 'Insomnia' gig, they didn't bother with him anymore seeing as he'd made the front cover instead of the back pages.

When the magazine featured 'The Following', my local arthouse cinema - The Corner House - in Manchester (don't know if it's still there anymore, I haven't been back in decades) was showing a 14 night run of selected indie films. The Following was one of them and Christopher Nolan was doing a chat before the film.
I think I might have been one of only 20 people there.
Funny to think even only a few years later he'd be finishing Memento and, well. The rest is history.
