Plain Archive is excited to announce the release of I Saw The Devil Steelbook. We've been asked by Blue Kino, another Korean Blu-ray company to design the Steelbook edition which will be PLAIN ARCHIVE's exclusive.
We were hoping to release the world's first Steelbook edition of I Saw The Devil, but Zavvi announced its own before we could. The news made us reconsider the project, but with director Kim Jee-woon's support, we couldn't drop it.
I Saw The Devil Steelbook will be released under the approval of director Kim, and we are working on the artwork as we speak.
Best Regards PLAIN ARCHIVE
This looks all wrong title is not in English on the spine
No sale if it stays that way and will depend on what else comes with it in terms of slip cover etc that must have English title
Their previous release The Wrestler Blu-ray Steelbook is horrible looking as in terrible in my opinion
Zavvi version is not that bad looking and has English title and price is ok
I agree about The Wrestler, not a fan of that one at all. I don't mind the title on this, it will set it apart from other Steelbook editions of this film. I think the Zavvi artwork is a little disappointing but this isn't much better either. The gravity-defying blood let's the Zavvi version down and the back looks a bit cartoony. I guess this one looks a little classier, the back image is nice but I think the placement on the front is all wrong. They should have either lowered the image or place the title near the bottom. I think the blood also spoils this one a little too.
Don't be afraid to share opinion Paul, just be prepared for this kind of response when you post a negative comment in an Asian Steelbook thread
No offence but every time when there's a german or french steelbook with the specific language on the steelbook everybody is running away from that.
But now everybody thinks is a great idea.

PlainArchive servers haven't been tested with such traffic....
I'm afraid that test is gonna be on this release...
Hoping it won't effect the order process like kimchi's site.
But I have high hopes, everything at PlainArchive has been of high quality until now.
Their website cms, the payment process, their mailmanagement (mailchimp), the products. It's as if they surround themselves with quality, so I'm not worried......... Yet ;-)
I love it (mostly), glad to see the coherence between front and back and it's getting full gloss too .
There's a hole in Plain Archive's reasoning though :
They're using the English titles of English-speaking films (The Wrestler, Melancholia) and the Korean title for this Korean film (and what a film, in my top 5 for best film of 2011 ), that makes sense to me.
But then why are they using the English title of a French film for their upcoming release, La vie d'Adèle ? That's double standard right there .
I won't get into the argument about how Asian characters are "exotic" (and actually welcomed even by haters of the Latin alphabet if it isn't their own language). They're not exotic, they're just different and we're just ignorant. I think that's beyond ridiculous to get excited about that (like, the appeal of an expensive Asian 1/4 slip for a worldwide print run of the same steelbook is a mystery to me), but then I look at people who've got Asian characters tatooed on their body and think "now THAT is ridiculous" .
But I'm glad Tna and Smiley are voicing their disappointment. So many people here are constantly jerking off Plain Archive (at least as much as Zavvi is getting its nuts smashed, with just as much subtlety on either side) that it's good to try to have some balance . And it's true that the "A Kim Jee Woon film" looks out of place (not a big fan of the font either). Putting his name on the slipcover would've been enough imo.
That being said, I will 100% purchase this. Even with the director that should have been left out and placed more appropriately somewhere on the slipcover, that still looks superb imo.
BluFans and Kimchi are far from perfect, so far Plain Archive is (smooth ordering process, I got quick reply emails about "invoice adjustments" and I love my Wrestler and Melancholia) ... but let's see how they fare down the road : PA have only released two exclusives over the past 5 months. I'm not asking for 10 exclusives every month forever, I'm saying I need more time to be completely convinced to automatically suck their 음경 (ignorance is bliss, isn't it? ) anytime they do anything. They're off to a pretty great start though, I remain cautious and optimistic that it'll continue.
(Btw, I will look at 97% of you with contempt when Plain Archive will release The Avengers 2 and Transformers 9 in 18 months because they'll have completely lost their way and we'll fondly look back at the Wrestler thread .
It looks soooo good! Can't wait to blind buy this, been wanting to watch this for a while now. With PA gaining a lot of popularity recently, I just hope that the print run won't be too low so that I'll be a able to secure a copy
I almost forgot about this! I was so enamored by how amazing the steelbook itself is. The complete packaging is going to be......I can't even think of any words to describe how beautiful the complete package will likely look.

"Zavvi version is not that bad looking." Zavvi should put that on their product page. (I happen to agree with you. The Zavvi version is not as bad looking as people make it out to be. But next to the Plain Archive--no contest. Plain wins.)

That's usually because they interpret an English movie title to another language and it often comes across awkward. The Korean lettering here looks great.
