Hi Bud,

so as long as its Marked "Gift" you can receive Declared Value of up to 40 GBP , with out being Punished by UK Government ??

wonder what USA is ?, as I get very conflicting answers from different guys ??

TC

Yup, providing its not fags and alcohol etc. its up to £40 for gifts. Work for Royal Mail so I know the basics of what I've been told in training. Hmrc's website is difficult to navigate so the answers on here seem to vary.

Good point on buying from the EU amazons in the near future

Ive bought a number of my steels from them that will be a nail in the coffin usually some good bargains :(

RIP OFF BRITAIN !!!!!!!!

Actually you're OK buying from EU Amazon's as because we're in EU all they have to do is "equalise" the VAT so for Francs, Spain and Italy the price you see is the price you pay: for Germany they have to add extra 1% as their VAT rate is 19%. Also no Customs levy between EU countries.

I mentioned the referendum and that we would have to pay a custom charge after. But for now lets make the most of it and hope Dave doesn't go through with it for cheap steelbook sake :D

Quick update checked parelforce now at the stage awaiting customs charging ...

A absolute joke this is going to work out around £150+ for a metal slip and viva what was probably only worth the £97 I paid for both.

If customs have opened them I'm going to smash the fookin things up well pissed ;(

NEVER AGAIN AM I GOING TO BUY ABROAD..........

Why the seller marked them at full price is beyond me had over a 1000 feedback and was a steel, metal and viva seller.

Worse eBay buy EVER ;(

Do customs leave some sort of letter etc that a parcel as been opened?

If Customs open the package for inspection you'll know straight away, as it'll be re-sealed with HMRC tape, saying something like 'Opened for Customs Inspection' on it.

I'm still betting it won't be though. This all sounds very routine. You'd have probably had the parcel by now if the seller hadn't put the full value on and made it eligible for charges.

Actually I would appeal the Customs charge. It's all to do wilth Cost, value and worth. It's WORTH {insert however much you paid for it} however it's COST is however much the buyer paid for it. Two completely different figures.

On the majority of my play GB's, unless otherwise requested, I would declare at a multiple of £11 (usually) as that's what they cost. For instance, if I was sending a play Iron Man out I would only declare at £11 not what I had sold it for.

Hi

Can some one please advice me if a package from JSDVD can be returned without being delivered.

I ordered 4 Steelbooks from them and paid for EMS shipping. I clearly asked them to mark as GIFT $23.

I have just received a letter from parcelforce wanting::angry:

Import VAT £6.70
Clearance Fee £13.50
Total £20.20

The package is currently at the Parcelforce Depot.

Could i call them and say i dont want the package and return to sender?

Will JSDVD refund me or do i have no choice but to pay them ?

Any help appreciated:thumbs:

Hi mate,
You can have them return the package and once they get it back you can either get them to resend or ask for a full refund

Thanks for the reply buddy,

Will JSDVD be okay having the package returned to them even though the items are possibly fine its just i dont want to pay £20.20 customs?

Last thing i want is JSDVD turning round and saying if we reship the items we want more EMS shipping fee and there is a possibility i get hit again ?

I think JSDVD either marked your package as $23 (goods) or a higher value that is beyond the Gift threshold.

HMRC / UKBA / RM / PFORCE can all rot in hell.

Btw, I am yet to receive a reply from HMRC/UKBA on my appeal filed almost a month ago for a package declared as $19 (Goods) by amazon.com.

Yeah as they will ask you why you had them returned and your reason is an acceptable one, done this myself (not with JSDVD).

You have got to add in the cost of shipping as that is used to total up the VAT claim.

Using your figures of £6.70 VAT charged gives a declared value of £33.50 or about $51 so if postage was in excess of $27 then their VAT charge is valid. :( The rip-off is the £13.50 Admin fee

Just called Parcelforce to return the package to sender.. They were fine with it and stated it would be returned the slowest method.

Now need to inform JSDVD...

Thanks for the help guys

UK Customs charging is a lottery. They don't inspect every package. You can get lucky.

But if you don't, then as mentioned before, it's £8 Royal Mail handling or £13.50 Parcelforce (UK carrier for EMS)handling.

Then you get VAT at 20% on entire stated or determined value.

Determined value is when Customs decide that the shiny thingy marked 'Gift' is not, because they've seen ninety-four 'gifts' from this sender pass through in the last six months...

Plus they may chat to their fellows in the sender's country and get him hassled.

They can also decide that the stated value is a mark-down. Stop howling; the other option is they do you and/or the sender for fraud. (Just like when you declare a payment as a 'Gift' on PayPal when it isn't, actually.)

HMRC are one of the last agencies in the UK that has the power to tear your house apart brick by brick without warrant on only the suspicion of contraband or significant (their call) evasion of duty. They don't have to put it back together again, either.

When you order from abroad, accept the fact that you may get hit by customs and it's probably going to be at least fifteen quid.
