OH dont get me wrong. Its pretty. I just think there are better looking steels out there.

I agree with Chip. I bought the DVD sized version for curiosity of the SB. It is a nice SB with embossed gold letterings and the zoomed up face and glowing eye. However, there are lot of other lovely SB's out there. But it is not as rare or old as the IM as this was released in September 30th 2008 making this nearly 3 years and 3 months old which adds to the greater value that collectors are willing to pay. All I can say is someone obviously has a lot more money to play with than I can fork out for a steelbook :scat:

You never know. It is the holidays afterall and there are people who have unlimited supply of money. Just sayin!!!

Its crazy though. I expect lots of rare steels to go for crazy prices. They are art first and formost. I do think I.M. is overvalued as it is not the best looking steel IMO. There is much better "artwork" on blu steels out there IMO. I.M. is actually a pretty simple design. Its the gold embossed letters and face that makes it stand out though. I still think Wanted(Ger) looks better as well as Death Race(G2), Hellboy 2(GER), and IMO Transformers 2(CA) looks better for artwork.

+1 and don't get me wrong I love Iron Man. Heck I listen to the Iron Man soundtrack at 2-3 times per week in my car on the way to work when I need to blow some steam :) But Hellboy 2, Wanted DE, TF2 CA and even some of the first wave CA Disney steels like Pinocchio and A Bug's Life, IMO, have better art work than IM. Just saying...

If age and rarity are the main factors here, I am curious why the DE Pan's Labyrinth did not take off as it should since it has the distinction as the first Blu-ray G2 steelbook title https://www.hidefninja.com/community/threads/2297/. I just think IM is being used as the status symbol for those with money to spend, you know, just so they can say yes, I have it too. Heck I just learnt that WB is taking all HP content back into the vault next year which means true collectors better get started on building their collection of the FS exclusive HP set! :hilarious:

Thanks to sunnyx's idea, I gave in and grabbed the G1 steelbook of Iron Man just to satisfy my curiosity and craving for anything Iron Man. For USD$30 with free shipping, it is cheaper than I had expected.

ash333,

I can change your mind. PM me your address and I'll send you a copy of Iron Man futureshop G2 steelbook hehehe.

They printed a CRAP LOAD of that pans german Ash... Sure its rare now, but it never took off as it was around for a long time.

You are right about status symbols, as look at IAL FS first relase now ... I never could understand why it was above Iron Man FS for so long. However, Iron Man is a FAMOUS comic book character and a great movie. I love the artwork, so to each their own ... but I think it being limited, popular comic book character, good movie and premium finish is why it's valued so high.

EEK!

I've paid less than that for a sealed copy! Looks like I've done a great deal :naughty:

Biscuit you got the deal of a life time. Iron Man Future Shop open and MINT should be $300. Sealed $500+

Unless I win the lottery, I just could not justify that sort of a price.

at the end of the day its a bloody blu ray.

Thats not to say I would not like it, becuase I would.

That Pans DE was released in large numbers I didn't know so that could be a very good reason. You know, just as in the case of Scarface, I still don't understand the marketing mindset behind a product like a collectible steelbook. Why push to release in such large quantities when you could get a close enough ROI with a higher price and better quality?

This was my first steelbook. I didn't even collect them at that time. Actually won it from this site a few years ago, opened it, kept it on the same shelf as my blu rays and ended up trading it to Wreck for two regular blu rays and a psp movie. Lol! Hindsight. Wasn't mint though. I think it had some light scratches, but I don't remember.

I had to do a double take on this. EEK! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Over $1100 for a SteelBook. It's not a damn diamond necklace you buy for your girl, it's a freakin Blu-ray. Is that normal for an unopened copy of Iron Man? Personally I wouldn't have paid more than $400 for it but I guess I was way off base. If this is what to expect for this title I'll move it from my most highly wanted to my dream SteelBook. That's all it will ever amount to is a pipe dream.

EEK!EEK!EEK!
