Agreed but for a retailer with access to warehouse this is way too high. Check out the price of Iron Man 2. It is ridiculous. This is no different from someone selling 10 copies in eBay.

es simply had luck that they found leftover stock of a steelbook which is now very high in demand

scalpers rob others of their chance of buying a steel for a nice price just to make some cheap bucks..

its definitely different.. at least the intention

So people are pissing and whinging that a company on play.com are selling an item at a higher price than retailer yet you can go to the trade forum on here and see people asking even more ridiculous prices for the same steel (and others) and even see members on here who have a sellers account on play.com offering similar "rarer" titles for extortionate prices as well?!

It appears most people are only happy if they get what THEY want and if they dont they have a hissy fit yet its ok to sell steels for stupid amounts themselves?!

If you dont think its worth £52 then dont buy it, simple, just as you shouldnt if prices on ebay are too high or if the prices in the trade forum are ridiculous (probably why most trade threads are rammed)

Hopefully anyone who got this is happy with the purchase :) i hope theyre all mint

I think people were upset because we thought ES could have been the next big steelbook retailer after the demise of HMV/Play and we didn't think of them as an ebayer or a trader until yesterday.

If Zavvi had come across these steelbooks would they have put the price up ?
Of course they would, they more than likely would have atleast doubled the retail price.
Would they have based their pricing on auction sites ? No.
And that's where we can now see the difference between the two.

Personally I would have paid up to three times the retail price from what I thought was a retailer, I didn't think it was worth £52 so I didn't buy it, simple.

I thought it was obvious that they were just a reseller as they don't have their own website yet are happy to pay play.com commission.

The funny thing is I said this a couple of weeks ago on another thread on here and got a PM from a member stating that have been told by somebody with contacts there just how big they are, and the influence they have within the steelbook game - which made me chuckle!!!!

Sorry but there is no proof of this, just like there is no proof only 4,000 copies of IM were produced.

All we have is hersay :movie:

Couple questions, anyone know how many of these went manufactured? I heard it was a 8,000 print run but that seems a bit much so can anyone confirm this? Did play.com print the entire run with reversed interior art or just some of them? Need to know because the answers these questions are the imperative factors which will distinguish the rarity of this steelbook in the long run.

4k ... I read some people writing 8k on ebay, but they dont know what they're talking about. I know the guy who placed the order. ;)

That's enought proof for me ;)

basicly its all a huge conspiracy against you collectors.. the most generous and forgiving people in the entire world.. what? a new seller tries to establish himself in the steelbook market ? lets support him by demanding a free new steelbook due to an invisible scratch and sell the "defect" copy for 6 times the retail price... *1 week later* what? es is selling a long oos/oop steelbook which is insanely high in demand for *what-its-actually-worth* ? **** them, what a bunch of scalpers...

talk about hypocrites..

I just had an order of all of the Marvel phase one steels (including this one obviously) fall through from eBay. £200 for the lot and the guy sends them unrecorded EEK!. They then proceed to get lost in the post
I'm not 100% sure if the guy genuinely made a mistake or is just a bit of an arse. He's refunding me but I still feel a bit mugged off

Not sure anyone demanded a free new steelbook. They did that off their own back.

wow, and the same retailer is taking the piss right now ? they bore the risk of bringing out an exclusive release as a single retailer and the absolutely worst case scenario for them happened: a 100% rate of complains due to, well, nothing..
so they issued a new 500 copies to all customers, which is like the biggest generosity i have ever heard about and in return they saw THEIR product, which everyone was so utterly pissed about, sell on ebay for 150GBP+

and now the same ppl think they're being ripped off by them because they sell THEIR stock for its current value

So you know for a fact that ES bore the cost of the reprint and the new discs? Not Scanavo, who should be liable because their manufacturing process caused the defect? Not Paramount?

Quick, they've got Iron Man 2 as well. Bargain, only £500 for both thenEEK!EEK!

I haven't. Your right, it does feel like an eternity. When I saw your username on the main page, I thought your's had arrived. Should be Tomorrow I think. Fingers crossed. I went and ordered some stands last night, as these will be pride of place, when they get here.

I foolishly expected mine today. At the weekend I also won IM 2 German steelbook which I posted in the acquired thread. It's nice, but then I went and spent the cost of my left nut on these two lol.
Will be opening and watching these, can't have unopened steels. For the amount they cost I want to experience the whole thing!
