Nova posted a status update on their Facebook earlier today. It's one of the ones written only in Korean which is usually nothing particularly interesting or relevant to those of us outside South Korea (as far as I can tell using the terrible translate function), but this one is something about plagiarism accusations regarding the John Wick Steelbook/Fullslip (not sure which) artwork.

Anybody know anything about this?

Here's the original text if somebody can translate:

The answer for nova media

Hi
Nobody here is arguing about poster copyrights. I am the artist, that created the first white steelbook design. Of course I have no copyrights on original posters.
All is mainly about the basic idea.
And as I mention everywhere, my work is only fanartthat is not for sale.
But basically, the point is that there should be some spiritual value of an idea.
This koncept I invented few months ago was my idea. My own idea.
For creating designs I used official posters (jpgs) from the Internet, from the site - Google – Images.

A few months later, I found the same or similar concept on your website for sale.
As the author of the original idea I feel disappointed for that.

P.S. We are not Ravagers . Our code is not steal from everybody .

I repeat:
Nobody here is arguing about copyrights…
I am not accusing anyone of stealing!

I'm not a thief!!!

I will not argue with you! I want peace.

I have a lot of ideas for much steelbooks.
I want to publish my ideas for steelbook designs.
I want to do this work, that entertains me.
It's my dream.
Give me a chance to work for you!
Let my dreams come true!

Thanks Václav Maršík

Oh, I see...One guy says he did a mock up of a Steelbook design and the Artwork has been lifted for Nova's Fullslip....
If this is true then it is an IP issue and needs to be sorted out ASAP. Novamedia are at fault here if the allegation is true.

Having said that we could also argue that the guy who did the mockup himself copy pasted the design and only created the template. So this becomes a chicken egg situation.

Here is his design from November 2014

If this is from official poster art, then I think its fair game.

If it is not, then of course, the guy who designed it has every reason to feel annoyed.

However, I really doubt Nova have found this guy from nowhere and copied his design. I think its more an official design than a mock up and if it is approved by the publisher, then business is business.

He also did some other Fan Artwork Steelbooks designs some are very good

The images though are already from the Film Studio Artwork and not original artwork so I'm sure NovaMedia are Ok with using these images as the rights are with the film studio as they come from the film posters

So... Does the guy just want credit for the design and to possibly design more Steelbooks in the future? That's what I take away from the last paragraph.
