Update 3/28/2011 appears on site again. It says "We'll send it when available", but they may ship sooner rather than later, or not at all. YMMV. Note this is an empty Sticker Steelbook, that was originally available for those that pre-ordered the Theatrical BD Set. However, at that point you could still order it at $7.50 separately, and then the price went up to $15.

So I went to BB today to look for a new phone since mine broke and I saw an advertisement on an endcap aisle way talking about the LOTR Trilogy "six disc steelbook casing"

Sorry I couldnt get a snap with my camera as like I said I was looking for a phone at the time.

This may be old news, but I didnt see it posted.

Went into my local BB today and saw the endcap ad there. Guy #1 I asked about it had this look on his face like I was speaking Greek. He passed me on to Guy #2 who knew even less. Finally, Guy #3 had a bit of a clue, and told me you can pre-order it now, but you get the Steelbook case when you pick up LotR Blu-ray theatrical release on April 5.

I'm not sure if they'll give you just the case when the movie comes out. I really wanted to just pick up the extended release when it comes out, but not sure if that will come in Steelbook, or if all of its discs will fit into this Steelbook case from BB.

Does anyone know if you pre-order this now, will BB let you just have the Steelbook case for the $5 deposit when the theatrical version is released on 4/6, or will you have to buy the theatrical version in order to get the Steelbook?

I'd like to have the Steelbook case (in the event an extended version Steelbook isn't released), but I already have the extended edition on DVD and couldn't stand watching the shortened version of each movie.

The pre-order seems to be for bothat least instore. Online you can order online for $15

It released today and some store hold them until next week. They are sold alone without the movies. Its only cost $5 for pre-order or free when you pre-order with the movies when the movie released.

The BB LOTR release is suppose to be a sticker book, so I think I'm gonna hold out for the actual steelbook from FS. Do you know when the pre-order is going to be available?
 
I went to my local BB today and didn't see any of the $5 pre-orders on the shelves, so I initially assumed they sold out. I asked someone and he went back into the warehouse to look. He eventually came back with one. I guess it depends on how your local BB handles pre-sales. It sounds like some sold out already while others didn't seem to announce the pre-order well enough.

Also, yes, it is a Stickerbook. I'll probably just hold onto it and see if the extended versions eventually come out on Blu-ray (and if they do, it they come with a Steelbook).

Yeah the BB I go to didn't even have them, I am checking back next week. Could you snap some photos?

I hope that they'll announce when we can pre-order it from FS. I'd rather get that one. I'm gonna check some BB's here in my area and see what I can find. I'm also thinking of just trying to get the SB and wait for the Extended Editions instead of the Theatrical release.
