Serious post: I'm into steelbooks, but not Mondo covers. I think I get the concept, but with a few exceptions (Boondock Saints, Boyhood, Ex Machina [even though on a macro level it feels too close to the Pan's Labyrinth cover but that's another discussion]) the results don't really wow me. I'm open to liking them and even want to, but having a hard time. Can anyone help me see what I'm missing or am I just a hopeless Philistine?

Well art is subjective ... so its normal to like some and dislike others. There's just also a collector's mentality here on this site so you will see some general like to many even if it's a less appealing release. The whole "gotta have them all" bug.

As for Ex Machina having it in hand is amazing for me. And I've always been one to find appreciation when something is designed or helmed by a person who had creative direction in the IP to begin with. Like if a Director curates new extras ... and with the artist Jock he created the art concepts for Ava so him doing the Mondo X made much more sense to me from an artistic stand point. Plus I think my higher level of appreciation for that SteelBook comes from the level of quality the case actually had. Having been collecting BD steels since day 1 there is like less than 10 steels that have had that much quality put into it ... ie. how much the case cost to produce. One of the higher ones ...

Fair enough. One of the things that appeals to me about steelbooks is the alternate/exclusive art that a lot of them get. So in that sense I definitely appreciate Mondo releases. I really like that they do more than a reprint of the standard cover. Maybe just not always my style.
If I were to go for a Mondo title Ex Machina would probably be the first, so thanks for the info about the quality. That's good to know.

The Mondo line has been quiet. To me, that's scary. That means it'll either be canned (doubtful) or we'll get a massive onslaught all at once like we did last summer (T2, Flash Gordon, The Thing, Shaun, and Ex Machina all in one month). I tell you, though, we better get The Iron Giant after it's been talked about forever before this line every disappears. We better get that and Jurassic Park and The Lost Boys because those pretties have been played with before this line was even released!
