Now's your chance to own a piece of limited edition cinema history. On 22nd November our editions of the restored and reconstructed Metropolis will be released on DVD and Blu-ray.

With its dizzying depiction of a futuristic cityscape and alluring female robot, Metropolis is among the most famous of all German films and the mother of sci-fi cinema (an influence on Blade Runner and Star Wars, among countless other films). Directed by the legendary Fritz Lang (M, Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse,The Big Heat, etc.), its jaw-dropping production values, iconic imagery, and modernist grandeur – it was described by Luis Buñuel as "a captivating symphony of movement" – remain as powerful as ever.

Along side the standard DVD and Blu-ray editions we will be releasing a limited edition dual format Steelbook. Over the next 48 hours we are giving away a FREE Metropolis T-shirt with every pre-order for this very limited dual format release. T-Shirts will be shipped within 14 days and you will be guaranteed early delivery of the steelbook. The set comes with 3 discs, 1 x Blu-ray and 2 x DVD, special features are listed below.

This offer is strictly on a first come first served basis. Artwork for illustrative purposes only.

Metropolis Steelbook Special Features:
• 150-minute reconstructed and restored 2010 version (including 25 minutes of footage previously thought lost to the world)
• Separate DVD and BD editions with wraparound embossed sleeve, or Ltd Ed Steelbook Dual Format edition
• Pristine new HD transfer (1080p on Blu-ray)
• New 2010 symphony orchestra studio recording of the original 1927 Gottfried Huppertz score in 5.1
• Newly translated optional English subtitles as well as the original German intertitles

It's not Eureka's fault that their Blu-Rays are region locked to B. It's the film's licensor that demands that they do that in order to have a "global level playing field". What's great about Eureka though is that they have a sense of humour and each of their discs has a different screen regretting the fact that you don't have a region free player :)

Here's one of the many examples.

But hey - everyone in the UK/Region B land feels the same frustration about Criterion discs. So it's a pretty fair trade-off :D

:hilarious:

I actually only saw that warning screen on my copy recently by accident - I had left my multi-region capable player set on region A.

I thought it was brilliant and thought why can't criterion discs have something similar.

(The first thing I did when I got my region free player was to test all of Eureka's discs on Region A setting to get all of the "Sorry" screens :hilarious:)

I have seen them before I got a multiregion player. I like that they got a sense of humor about it :)

I wish some MOC representative would post on HDN :scat:

so guys, any idea what this is worth now?

1000 destroyed in the fire, 9000 sold originally so there must be a fair few out there.

i just bought mine for £60 on ebay mint/sealed as i need it for my collection and this is the first one ive seen on ebay in months.

any thoughts.....

was i ripped off?

was it a bargain?

neither?

love to know your thoughts :D

thats a reasonable price

its certainly not a bargain but you didnt get ripped off either

yeh i thought seeing as though its the first one i've seen on ebay for a loooooong time, might aswell take a punt.

its actually a nice steel, albeit one of my most expensive :)

and i suppose, somethings only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and, alas, i was willing to pay £60 for it :D

Ahhhhhh so you're the guy who bought that Metropolis! I was keeping an eye on it as its the one Eureka steelbook I'm missing but I wasn't sure if I was prepared to send that much for it. The seller had it for £70 before they moved it down to £60 because no one placed an offer. Well played sir :scat:

lol :D ill be honest with you, i was so close to not buying it. i was hoping he'd move the price down to £50 or £40, i really didnt wanna pay £60 for it but i think it'll be a long time before another one comes up

i honestly expected more bids, looks like i was the only one who bit at that price

Just 24 more steels to go then i've completed my Uk blu-ray steel collection :oohyeah:

It's not a bad price considering it's sealed, are you happy you bought it is the main thing. You shouldn't spend any more than you're to pay for it.

I managed to get a mint (but opened) copy for £36 last year. :D

Amazon marketplace is the only place I can find this currently, but the cheapest one is £98.74/$158.45 :(

No listings on ebay at the moment but I'm checking everyday.

Thanks for the feedback guys

I was happy with £60 as it was a main want of mine for quite some time.

hopefully more will appear on ebay so more people can get this one

some of those prices on amazon marketplace are ridiculous. £150 for a dented one i mean come on...........

Zavvi have Metropolis for £12.99. [Edit] Is it the Steelbook edition. The picture makes it look like it is, but it doesn't say Steelbook.
