I wish you could just buy empty 1, 2, or 3 disc G2 steelbooks, in low quantities, or even just the plastic parts without the metal. I'd got a few I'd like to upgrade, like The Dark Knight, or the LOTR series. I've cut out round spindles the same size as the disc holes, and stuck them inside the inside covers, and used those to hold other discs, but it takes ages to do, and it's very difficult to be accurate.

Yes, I think everyone that likes to Mod their SB's would agree with you that Scanavo should market their inserts. I've swapped out many parts to add more discs to certain cases & even bought damaged cases simply for cannibalizing the multiple disc holder inserts.

Another option I've done is to purchase "DVD Hubs" & simply stick them to the inside to hold an extra disc. Be aware that some don't have the best adhesive so I recommend you simply apply some clear drying rubber cement to help this.

Do these hubs actually hold up over time or should I be concerned that it will fall off at some point?

Ok so a question for those of you doing spine artwork on the inside.

How exactly are you doing it while still making it look like a clean pro job ?

I mean how are you peeps putting the spine artwork in there and then putting the spine back on while making it look clean without glue showing and stuff? Are you guys cleaning off the original glue I guess for each one and then somehow attaching the spine artwork to the spine back and putting it back on with tape over top of the artwork again ?

I mean I might be motivated to try the spine work if someone can explain how to get a clean pro job done for it. TIA!

If not Im off to do about 40 steelbooks without spine art, lol.

Piecing together a pretty sweet steelbook

Hey guys this is my first thread so please be gentle.

Just wanted to share my happiness today with a certain steelbook edition which I now own. :D

Basically I've been eying the Captain America Steelbook for ages but was annoyed that the 3D disc was not included (many others seem to do this also) anyway I noticed this guy was selling his case online without discs and I struck upon an idea. :oohyeah:

I managed to get an 'as new' 3D Superplay edition of the film which was in mint condition and then won the ebay auction figuring I would have the best of both worlds: The stunning steelbook case AND the 3D disc as a bonus. Obv. I'm aware my card states triple play and doesn't list the 3D disc plus there isn't a slot for the third disc but it fits in pretty snuggly when doubled up and I dont have any holder spoiling the artwork on the inside :). All in all I managed to get both items for £19 and the case has just arrived in MINT condition, no dents, scratches, nada. :scat:

I know there are non UK versions of this with the 3D included but I like the fact that all parts are from the UK editions, all text is in english and ultimately it cost me a little less too. :oohyeah:

Just wondered if anyone else has done a similar thing? I've also resorted to adding swing trays in my blu ray cases when I upgrade from DVD making them unofficial Combi editions (double play) and sometimes if I own the G1 steelie and not a blu equivalent I place the blu ray discs in with the DVD discs.

Is it just me who only does this sort of thing by messing with the laws of steelbook collecting? :emb: :giggle:lol

i did the same but with both Captain America and Thor

bought the 2D HMV steelbooks for both

managed to purchase just the 3D discs for both films for a decent price (£19 for both)

sold the DVD copy of both on ebay for about £6.50 each

and hey presto. 2 3D steelbooks

^ You need to go to you tube and find some "how to" videos on how to remove front and back metal and then how to remove spine metal without bending it.

Then how to put them back on. Its reasonably easy to do the inside artwork, but the spine is for experts only, and you would need to practice on some SteelBooks that you don't mind damaging.

Sorry if this doesn't help much, but there is a lot of things to learn before attempting to insert your own artwork, and I don't have the time to do an ABC for you. Look around the various forums, and you will find many helpful tips.

I get my pictures from the link in the previous post plus also from http://www.moviepicturedb.com/. There is a small fee of €5 for 100 downloads

I can usually find something appropriate from those two sites, but in the case of Source Code, I downloaded the pic that I wanted to use, then used a Graphics program to crop and resize until I had the pic fitting the SteelBook as I wanted it.

I'm a little fussy about what pics I put into my Steels. I would rather leave it blank than insert something that didn't look or fit right..

Once you have collected more info, I can help you with some of the finer points.

I spent time on various forums reading as much about the fun job of your own inside artwork as I could. At first, most people just did the inside artwork, until one day someone did the spine as well. This was a revelation, and many collectors attempted and failed to do the spine, and many still do the inside only. Collector's who want their SteelBooks to look as professional as possible do the spines as well.
