300 gallons of formaldehyde was spilled into the ventilation system at the milwaukee regional medical center, which my school is apart of, tonight. pretty much the whole place got evacuated. it was on the news.

i was planning on going in to school to study tonight, now im stuck at home with black ops in the other room. how am i suppose to stay focused under those conditions?!? :hilarious:

EDIT:

so far so good in not getting distracted from my studies. it prolly helps that im learning about all the nasties that can give you diarrhea.

Fun fact: the virus that causes pink eye is spread via the fecal-oral route. what does this mean? it means that they were right in the movie Knocked up: you can spread pink eye by farting on someone else's pillow!!! :hilarious:

That would still have to be a hell of a fart, either that or you'd have to bare-ass it on the pillow

300 gallons of formaldehyde is a pretty big deal, how did they spill that much at one time?

i think it was a loading spill from a truck. the basement level is still closed today but at least the building didnt burn down

I'd be more worried about cancer. We have to use that for a test that we do here every month or so. The warning label on formaldehyde is particularly nasty, not something I'd want in my basement!

What do you do for a living that you need to test using that stuff? are you in direct contact with it or something?

:hilarious: I've only seen it once and told myself never to watch it again.

@Mobius - How the hell did 300 gallons of formaldehyde spill? Accident? mass murder attempt? Spill the beans dude!

theres a morgue in one of the research center buildings. my guess is they were transporting the stuff into the morgue and it spilled on the way. check this quote out from the email we got today:
No one was injured in the spill. The 2% formaldehyde mix spilled on a MCW staff member who is being followed up with by MCW Occupational Health.

EEK!

it is odd though. last week we had cryptosporidium or some pathogen in our water system and couldnt drink the water over the weekend. so maybe there is something to all this.... :ohno:

It's official ... Wisconsin is being quarantined and they are trying to rid you all. :p

Im a quality control scientist at one of the big pharma companies. One of the materials that we recieve regularly requires formaldehyde as the solvent for testing. The label has it all - toxic, poison, suspected carcinogen, skull & crossbones, you name it :ohno: I make sure to use gloves and a fume hood when I have to do that test!

I think this is exactly how the crazies started, lol

@ mobius - 300 gallons of 2% is much better than straight formaldehyde! I was a little worried when they reopened the next day. Did HAZMAT ever show up?
