I moved the thread here guys, it looks like that Disney tab has been there all along. If we get any new info we can create a thread then.

Anyone else have problems searching for titles on there site? Also why when I just click on Steelbook do I get only 30 results? The only way to find there whole inventory is to search for a popular movie and click whatever starts to auto complete as your typing has the highest number next to it. There site is a "Hot Mess"

Hi

I would seriously CAUTION and WARN anyone ordering from Nova Media and/or any other overseas business!

IF and when you encounter an issue, you have very little recourse other than to have your credit card company fight on your behalf as most will only take back returns, but the consumer is responsible for the PRICY return shipping!

They offer little-to-none Customer Service, so it is best to get from a trusted business such as any of the Amazons, eBay Sellers, etc. where you have some type of consumer protection!!!

Furthermore, it is often quite difficult if not impossible to even order anything on one's own as the Group Buy people have special deals going with the company, website traffic overload, website crashing, etc. etc.

@ijusthuman , I think that a lot of people ordered one or multiple items overseas. Sure there is a risk that something gets lost along the process but the more serious asian retailers do care for there customers. Personally I haven't dealt with Novamedia before other than that I've ordered my first 2 steels yesterday.
But Kimchi, Plain Archive, Yesasia ... most of us ordered there without to many problems. For the steelbooks we are mostly interested in we like to direct from them as the prices on ebay are much higher. Although I do understand what you say I feel that it ain't all that bad.

Wow, such a sweeping statement. You are basically lumping all companies in "the rest of the world" in one category EEK!

So, life is sometimes difficult - is that news somehow? It's all part of the challenge to be able to purchase a highly wanted collectible item; I quite enjoy that myself :D

Not my experience at all. I have once (a shipping cost refund dispute over a wrong item shipped by the seller, a US mail order company) needed to mention contacting the CC company to mediate as the next step, and hey presto, I got my refund straight away. If you, the buyer, are right and can prove it, the CC company will protect you.

Furthermore, I've twice need to return a damaged item "overseas", once to South Korea and once to Singapore. Both times my tracked shipping costs were refunded by the seller (and I didn't even request that before sending the items back).

No company is perfect, but during a few decades of international mail-order all over the globe, I've not found "overseas" sellers as a group to be any less trustworthy as, e.g., Amazon.

I recognize that Amazon's (whether it's US, UK, DE, IT, ES, JP) customer service is easier to deal with than that of many other companies, but that doesn't make me implicitly trust other companies any less.

So, do you have some personal experiences with Nova that cause you to "CAUTION and WARN anyone ordering from Nova Media"? Or with other "overseas" companies that are frequently discussed in HDN forums?

I'm in two minds about Novamedia, having experience with a damaged steel, the heel dragging by kim got under my skin, and his attitude evevntually became offensive, to the point where i was told to go away. All i wanted was a partial refund....

The otherside says, i would still order as when things go right, they go right, ie...superb packaging and some great quality releases. But when it goes pearshaped.......

Yes, I have had several encounters with Nova.

I am NOT speaking of purchasing steelbooks from Sellers overs via eBay, Amazon and/or other venues, which offer protection. I was directly speacking about Nova as they offer ZERO Customer Support, even if they made the error and, they will NOT refund the shipping cost to return under any circumstance!!!

Best to avoid as one can get the exact steelbook with exact artwork in a different venue as there's truly not many "exclusives" because the steelbooks are the same and the only distinguishable difference(s) is/are the slip cover. However, there are a few that the steelbook itself and/or slipcover is truly exclusive, but those are rare instances and sometimes very difficult to get.

Thanks

Yes, one can purchase directly from many websites/companies and save a bundle. BUT, when the popular steelbooks are released, they are very difficult to purchase directly because Group Buy people have a special deal and at times the item is sold out in less than a minute; ridiculous!

Yesasia is a good alternative and can get some of the sold out steelbooks, but there is a premium for purchasing from them as well.

A lot of times you can do well on eBay, especially if there's an auction. But some of the rare steelbooks are difficult even impossible to find at any price at any venue and, I just recently saw the original release of I Am Legend from Future Shop sell for over $1400!!! Let's see, that's my rent, bills, food, etc. for 4 months [G].

Do we know what percentage or number of steelbooks are actually going to be allocated for the GB ?, looking at the GB thread, so far 14 pages of orders, and that's just this website, HDN.

What I'm concerned about is if the GB takes too much of the overall stock, everyone else who orders direct loses out in the rush to order..

All Group Buys covering ALL sites organising one should be strictly limited to 5-10% of all available stock regardless of who wants in the GB...ie once the quota is filled, that's it..

I have nothing against Group Buys, but it must not significantly impact the attempts to order direct from Novamedia

The whole point of a group buy is to help those who would otherwise find it difficult or impossible to purchase a particular Steelbook. I don't see why it should be restricted to retailers with limited shipping arrangements. If a collector is not able to get to a computer when a listing goes live or their preferred payment method is not accepted by a particular retailer (as a couple of examples), why should they miss out? It is commonly said that a collector should 'find a way' if they really want something, I think a group buy is a good a way as any.
But its not only those people ("who find it difficult or impossible") that are guaranteeing themselves a copy. Its also people who are too lazy and also people willing to abuse the system. Its not a way of levelling the playing field as some would seem to suggest , On the contrary its more akin to fixing the result.

John is doing a GB for this also on the german forum and thats ok. There are much people in germany they can't read or write english language... but in my eyes a GB on this or any other forum is nonsense ^^ Around 400 people joined the GB ... if anyone want the 1-click option thats 1600 copies. Of this 400 people ... the half of them will try to order also at NOVA and resell them on eBay. Its ok to reserve around 100 of each version and start a GB for this copies after pre-order on nova but this way is nonsense.
Next week i will start a GB for an Amazon exclusive Steelbook :p

like someone else mentioned before, the whole print-run will get divided 50/50 with the korean market, so having more than 50% of the international quantity reserved already (in a worst-case scenario it would be more like 80%), it seems just wrong to me to handle it this way.
people are not against the GB in general, from what i can read here, it's just the amount of copies that people (including myself) are worried about, plus the decreasing chance of succeeding in ordering directly from the retailer.
it should be a PREMIUM service for those who missed out (after the live-time on the retailer site, that was a good idea), but i'm not willing to pay 35-40% above retail price in a GB, that's about the same as the ebay ("scalping") prices anyway.
