PlayStation Home (also marketed and referred to as Home) is a community-based service developed by Sony Computer Entertainment's London and Cambridge studios for the PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation Network. It is available directly from the PlayStation 3 XrossMediaBar. Home has been in development since early 2005 and started an open public beta test in December 2008. Home allows users to create an avatar on their PlayStation 3 console and explore an online world. This avatar gets its own virtual apartment space or "HomeSpace", which can be adorned with items that users can obtain in several different ways. In a 2007 keynote speech, Phil Harrison used the term "Game 3.0" to describe the service.

Greetings, Homies. Fasten your seatbelts, because we have the most exciting news to hit PlayStation Home since Open Beta! We know you loyal Home fans have been asking for media sharing since the get-go, and we’re very happy to tell you that the first stage is here!

Photo sharing, the first feature to support user-generated content, is finally coming to PlayStation Home! Starting today, Thursday, June 4th, you’ll be able to purchase picture frames in the Mall, upload photos from your hard drive or select from a gallery of default pictures, and then display them in your personal apartments. So if you’ve got photos from your latest game tournament that you want to share, all you have to do is upload them, choose the angle and size options for display, and then invite your friends back to your Home pad for your viewing party. Awesome!

But that’s not all! As usual, we have more exciting content updates coming today, including the highly-anticipated launch of the brand-new Buzz! game space. Get ready to strain your brain and freak your mind with this fast-paced, interactive quiz game. You’ll have to work with your friends and fellow community members to answer the questions lickety-split (hint: some organized sprinting may be necessary). Join the Home Community Management team in the Buzz! Space throughout the day where we’ll be challenging you to a game or three. Be sure to visit the MyBuzz website to discover what it takes to get your own quizzes into the Buzz! game space for future challenges.

When you need a break from thinking, be sure to visit the Mall for some retail therapy. It will be packing brand-new Ghostbusters costumes, designer duds for dandified men and women, and still more Street Fighter IV costumes.

Last but not least…word on the street is that everyone’s favorite ARG, Xi, will be revealing new spaces, ornaments, and mini-games.. Keep on playing, because it’s not over til the last butterfly flutters.

PlayStation Home users are earning a brand new treat this month, straight from the depths of Helgan. The Visari Throne Room from Killzone 2 has a killer view, and we’ve screens and info down below.
kz_throneroom1

kz_throneroom1-300x168.jpg

Overlooking the wartorn cityscape that is Helghan, and lit by an eerie Helghan sunset, this is the property every Killzone fan should own. Forget the scenic view of your Harbour Suite, this view is nothing but pure wasteland and wartorn buildings. The Autarch himself would be first in line for this apartment, but I’m not sure if Radech owns a PS3.

kz_room2-300x168.jpg

The architecture is clearly Helghan with it’s regal proportions and the Helhgan sunset clearly sets the dark mood. The only thing missing is furniture fit for Helghan Royalty, and that will be available as well.

kz_furniture-300x195.jpg

Being that this information was posted on the European PS Blog, we had to make sure that it would be available here in the US as well, and Victor Zuylen – Editor, Killzone.com, was nice enough to respond to our inquiry on his PS Blog Post.

“It will be available in the EU as well as the US. The release dates may differ slightly.”

Sometime after the 15th of June, we should all be able to live for the Glory of Helghan (at least in Home).

Click your heals three times and repeat after me… “There’s no place like HOME! There’s no place like HOME!”
Spaces

And I’m not joking, since Home opened its virtual doors it has been expanding into its own little universe. Like the new upcoming space I mentioned last week for a space called BUZZ! HQ which has actually been delayed because of a few minor issues, but will open very soon once all the kinks are worked out. Until then, a new space is on its way soon for the game inFamous. No confirmed date as to when it will be available yet but, according to Sony, players will be able to explore the Empire City and play the new inFamous themed mini-game that will test players reflex and aiming skills. And I can’t wait to take that test.

Speaking of inFamous, the Cole costumes are now unlockable for Sony Home. Some gamers were given a glimpse of this upcoming Home space during E32009, check out a video a player recorded at the Sony Home booth:

Another space on its way to Sony Home will be a Ghostbusters-themed space by LOOT Gear who have already created the Studio Set Apartment available at the Real Estate store in the mall and now teasing the space as well as fun gear available to players on PlayStation Home. With a silly infomercial on YouTube and tweets on their twitter page about their upcoming “Ghostbusters” space, check it out:

No dates have been confirmed for the new Ghostbusters space but at the mall you can purchase complete Ghostbusters uniforms for $1.99 (Male and Female costumes) while you wait or you can purchase individual items for:
Stuff

Males

* Uniform top for 99 cents
* Pants for 49 cents
* Boots for 25 cents
* Ecto goggles for 49 cents
* Chemical gloves for 25 cents

Females

* Uniform top for 99 cents
* Uniform shorts for 49 cents
* Boots for 25 cents
* Ghostbusters hat for 49 cents
* Chemical gloves for 25 cents

More Street Fighter 4 outfits are now available for male avatars:

* Balrog wig, shirt, shorts, boxing gloves and boots for 99 cents each.
* Vega wig, mask, body top, pants, claw bracelets and shoes for 99 cents each.
* Sagat body top, trunks, hand wraps, foot wraps and eye patch for 99 cents each.
* M. Bison wig, suit top, suit bottom and boots for 99 cents each.

Also new at the mall furniture store, players can display their favorite works of art, posters or photos on the walls of their personal spaces with picture frames now available for $2.99. Users can their favorite pictures by uploading the images to your photo gallery playlist located on the PlayStation menu and then importing them into the frames after placing them on the wall. The sleek grayish frames are pretty neat, players can turn them horizontally or vertically or just rotate the image within the frame and either stretch, fill or crop them into place. Note you can only hang as many frames as your wall space allows for example, if you own the Harbor Studio Apartment the most you can hang is four where as if you plan wisely you can hang up to six in your chamber apartment. There are default images available for use until you upload the images you want into your photo gallery playlist. As a reminder Sony suggests using only images that are owned by you to avoid copyright issues and other legal stuff.
Xi: The Hub

Over at Xi: The Hub, correspondence between the team leader Thom and a Veilcorps operative has been discovered by volunteers and the AFK hackers. With the spy found the testers are not speaking with each other in disappointment and fear of revealing any new valuable information to Veilcorps. In an email sent by Jachal informing players that Jess has dropped another clue on her home computer, players who have read the message will find mathematical problems to solve by exploring the different worlds on Home to answer the questions. A new maze has opened in Alpha Zone 3 which is similar to the riddle maze, except now you have faster ghosts chasing you not to mention tougher questions to answer to get to the goal before the ghosts find you. The only hint I can offer here is pay attention to where the ghost is moving and when he’s not looking, run. Fast. Good luck.

From the people who brought your WATCHMEN and STAR TREK in Home we now bring you their latest promotion complete with free goodies.

I couldnt put it better than their own release so on with the show!

Namco releasing 'Essentials' on PSN, plus new Home space

Fans of classic Namco games have quite a bit to look forward to next month. Not only can you get Namco Museum Essentials on the PlayStation Network, but the Namco Bandai space will also launch in PlayStation Home.

Namco Museum Essentials will feature classic games like Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug, and Dragon Spirit. It will also come with Xevious, and an updated version of the classic arcade shooter. Xevious Resurrection may be based on an old game, but the 1080p graphics will bring it into the modern HD-era. Museum Essentials will also be one of the first titles to implement the reward system for Home, giving you a chance to win items simply by playing through the game.

home--ss-215.jpg

The Namco Bandai Home space will correspond with Museum Essentials. Arcade machines scattered through the space will act as Namco?s downloadable media hub, allowing gamers to try out demos and watch trailers. There will be a host of collectible items to show off to your friends on Home, as well.

Look for both Namco Museum Essentials and the Namco Bandai Home space on PlayStation 3 next month.

Greetings Home-boys and Home-girls!

http://www.viddler.com/explore/sceablog/videos/422/0.956

To say we have a pretty massive update coming for all of you this Thursday, June 18th would be the understatement of the week. To start, we’ll be unleashing the long-awaited SOCOM Tactical Operations Center space. This space is the first installment of a two-part SOCOM Home hub (the second highly interactive space – OPFOR – will follow the TOC shortly) that is the ideal 3D locale for the huge SOCOM community to meet up and socialize. At this new SOCOM strategy post, you will be able to plot the next course of action with your friends by gathering around the Telestrator tool and coordinating your next assault. Chock full of maps and modes from SOCOM: Confrontation, the Telestrator is a powerful tool that the Home community can use to collaborate, strategize, and enhance their gameplay experience. On top of this, the TOC boasts a regional leaderboard that pulls data from the SOCOM site and updates Career stats (such as all-time ranking, kills, deaths, and kills/deaths ratio) in real-time. And in an imminent refresh of the TOC you’ll also be able to purchase a slew of related virtual items to decorate your avatar with. So if you like to sport the Military chic look you’ll have to make a point to stop on by and load up on bandoliers, balaclavas, and other assorted tactical outerwear.

SOCOM HOME 7 SOCOM HOME 6

Also coming to the world of PlayStation Home this week is our first foray into movie and game-themed personal spaces. All of you virtual Egons will be overjoyed to find a Ghostbusters Firehouse personal space available for purchase. This 3-floor space comes jam-packed with tons of furniture and assorted decorations at no additional charge (including your very own Ecto-1). We hear that the basement’s ghost containment unit might have accidentally leaked a poltergeist or two, so you’ll have to keep an eye open for supernatural activity. Lucky for you, the Ghostbusters Firehouse comes with full Loot Stage Set functionality (including move props and portable blue screens) so you can stage your own Ghostbusters machinima. And as a token of our infatuation with the Ghostbusters franchise, we’re giving away free t-shirts that commemorate the 25th anniversary of Slimer hitting the silver screen. So be sure to log in and load up on all the goodies while the gettin’ is there to be gotten.

Electronic Arts is also freshening up their hugely-popular EA SPORTS Complex with additional Racing tracks, a leaderboards, Racing Boost Shop, and Poker updates (including bracelets for the ladies). The as-of-yet-unopened Golf Pro Shop space will temporarily disappear but will reappear and launch within a short time, so have no worries. All in all, this is a pretty significant update to the Complex, so if you haven’t been over for a while, this Thursday would be a dang fine time to drop on by.

We’re also bringing you some more game-related virtual items (did somebody say Street Fighter IV?!?!), including the free inFAMOUS Cole Costume for all of you that downloaded the demo and played it through to completion. Keep your eye on the official PlayStation Twitter page for more info regarding the awesome updates we have in “store” for you (terrible pun, I know).

To top this all off we have two events running this weekend in addition to the regularly-scheduled Resistance: SRPA Siege and Saturday Night Street Fightin’ game launching events (check the Clubs and Events subforums on the official PlayStation Home messageboard for more details). The first event starts Friday morning and ends Friday night and has something to do with you and your friends going on a scavenger hunt for parts of a secret code scattered throughout Home and the first 100 winners receiving a free download of Bomberman Ultra from the PlayStation Network. The other is scheduled for Saturday night and also involves free stuff, but you’ll have to keep your eyes on the video screens throughout Home between now and then for more details, because my memory is getting a little furry in my old age…

Oh, and by the way, the Killzone 2 Visari’s Throne and the Namco Bandai Museum are indeed coming to SCEA’s version of PlayStation Home. But not this week. You’ll have to keep an eye on the official Blog, forums, and Twitter accounts to stay up to date as to the progress of these spaces. But don’t despair; you can always spend the time between now and then launching into games of Crash Commando with your friends in Home. Don’t believe me? Give it a try…

New SOCOM, Ghostbusters spaces for Home

Today?s Home update has some quality content. First off is the highly-anticipated SOCOM Tactical Operations Center space. This space is the first of two parts of a SOCOM Home hub. The TOC will be an effective strategy development center due to a new tool, the Telestrator. With it, you and friends can coordinate attacks through access to the maps and modes of SOCOM: Confrontation. The TOC will also feature a regional leaderboard that pulls stats from the SOCOM site and updates career stats in real-time. There will also be SOCOM-related virtual items available for purchase for your avatar. Those who like military fashion should take a look.

---------

The EA SPORTS Complex, meanwhile, is receiving new additional racing tracks, leaderboards, a Racing Boost shop, and updates for Poker. The unopened Golf Pro Shop space will disappear, but only temporarily.

---------

There will also be some other game-related virtual items from Street Fighter IV (no word on what those are yet), as well as a free inFamous Cole Costume for those that downloaded the demo and played it all the way through.

Ghostbusters is also coming to Home. Home users can buy the three-floor Ghostbusters Firehouse which includes plenty of furniture, decorations, ghosts, and a personal Ecto-1. It also will have Loot State Set abilities which will let you make Ghostbusters machinima. There will also be free Ghostbusters t-shirts.

---------

The Namco Bandai Museum and the Killzone 2 Visari?s Throne are still coming, but not yet. No dates were announced for these.

-------

Lastly, a new event is coming tomorrow morning. It involves a scavenger hunt for pieces of code for a free download of Bomberman Ultra from PSN.

Ever wonder what goes into the making of a video game? The July issue of Game Informer reveals a number of fun facts from the Sucker Punch team regarding the development of their super-hero exclusive, inFAMOUS. We thought we’d go ahead and share a few of our favorites from the issue and also the development team with you!

* In addition to the kitchen espresso, the inFAMOUS team traveled to Starbucks approximately 18,200 times. Two groups of 10 people per day, five days a week.
* There were 10 inFAMOUS babies born during development. One employee had two during that time.
* It took over 70,000 separate art, code and media check-in submissions to make inFAMOUS.
* The inFAMOUS team consumed 17,472 cans of diet Coke and 13,104 cans of diet Pepsi during development.
* There were no less than 14 high rise buildings constructed within 3 blocks of Sucker Punch’s offices during the inFAMOUS development cycle.

Here are a few more fun facts about inFAMOUS worth mentioning…

* inFAMOUS is the fastest demo to reach the 1 million milestone on the PlayStation Network.
* According to a recent NPD report, inFAMOUS was the fifth best-selling software title for the month of May after being on the shelves for only 6 days (the title launched on May 26).

We’ve also got a new video to share… check out this walk-through video of the Titanic Beatdown mission with commentary from Sucker Punch Game Designer, Darren Bridges.

But wait, we still have one more fun fact to share with you all…

We’re excited to announce that a new inFAMOUS space will be launching in Home very soon. We’ll have a lot more details on the new space for you all next week, so please stay tuned!

Online races can be launched from PlayStation Home.

Motorstorm PR...

Welcome back to your all-points BOLO bulletin wherein I give you, the beautiful people of the PlayStation Home community, a head’s up on what to keep your eyes open for in our next publishing update. This Thursday, you’ll see that we decided to start the 4th of July festivities a few days early – and with a serious bang - by shooting some truly explosive content your way.

Up first is the electrifying inFAMOUS game space: The Abandoned Docks of Empire City. This awesome space supports the next level of UGC (User-Generated Content) on the Home platform with its Graffiti Wall mini-game. Here, you can use our graffiti tools to design your own unique art to display to your friends. There’s also a voting feature so that you can give props to the creators of your favorite designs, and a feature that allows you to share your masterworks and check out your friends’ latest and greatest creations – be it simple scribbles or extravagant frescos.

inFAMOUS in PlayStation Home inFAMOUS in PlayStation Home

The Abandoned Docks of Empire City also marks a first for Home in that it will broadcast exclusive media developed by Sucker Punch, specifically for the hardcore inFAMOUS fans. And to top it all off, we also managed to squeeze an extra mini-game into the space – a scrolling shooter-type button-masher called Reaper Shock that lets the community compete for high scores on the built-in global leaderboard (and rewards the most highly skilled with some rad reward items to decorate your avatar and your personal space with). For a full walk-through on the new space, check out: IGN.com.

In other news: Ubisoft continues to deliver by patching their hit title Far Cry 2 to support game launching in Home. So be sure to visit the Far Cry 2 space to meet up with new people to launch into the multiplayer version of this groundbreaking FPS, and keep your eye on the official PlayStation Home Clubs and Events forums at PlayStation.com for more details about the special Far Cry 2 game-launching events we have planned for later this week.

Those of you that participated in the epic Hamsters vs. Humans battle a few weekends back will be rewarded with your free aviator helmets (for the guys) and fedoras (for the girls) for doing your part in helping keep Home pro-Human…for the time being at least. We’ll also be making available some limited Independence Day-themed goods, some basketball and hockey gear for you sports fanatics, free G-Force shirts, and assorted other apparel. So be sure to check out the Mall for updates to our stores come Thursday morning.

On top of all this, we’ve managed to work out a few pesky bugs that you have reported to us over at the official PlayStation Home Support sub-forum at PlayStation.com. You’ll notice that your Ghostbusters Firehouse and Loot Sound Stage personal spaces can now support Picture Frames (and that the latter has been patched for voice chat capabilities). As always, we thank you for your patience while we work to optimize your Home experience and encourage you to continue to report any bugs to us using the aforementioned Support sub-forum.

See you all in Home!

inFamous space, KZ2 room and more headed Home tomorrow

The inFamous game space, The Abandoned Docks of Empire City, is coming to Home in both Europe and North America tomorrow. There will be a graffiti art minigame and a side-scrolling shooter minigame, Reaper Shock.

Meanwhile, Europe will be receiving the Killzone 2 Visari throne room, along with the SOCOM Tactical Operations Centre, the latter of which has already been released in North America.

Finally, North Americans will receive a patch from Ubisoft for Far Cry 2, which allows the game to be launched from Home.

Buzz! HQ Home space launching this week, and more

Platinum Games? stylish action game Bayonetta has an official release date in Japan. Sega announced that the game will hit retailers on October 29 in Japan, and pre-ordering lands you a ?Rodin?s Selection,? a special soundtrack CD with a case that looks like a menu from a pub.

There?s little more information on what the CD will contain, but Sega stated it includes ?sounds hand-picked by Rodin himself.?

No word at this time for a global release, but as we reported earlier, Sony?s U.S. and European game profile pages indicated a ?2009? launch date. We?ll let you know when we hear a more specific release date for North America and Europe.

nDreams to deliver 'exciting new PS3 home space'

nDreams head honcho Patrick O' Luanaigh has announced that the firm is planning on releasing an ‘exciting new’ space for Sony’s online social networking hub, PlayStation Home.

Writing on his Twitter account, O’ Luanaigh stated, “Off on holiday this week, but our next Home space should be out on Thursday.... should be fun ;)

Details are sketchy on what the new space will contain, though a later Tweet reveals that the company’s “new ARG is nothing to do with Home”. However, a preview is on the cards for “next week”.
