With all of the announcements of upcoming movies being planned for 3D over the next few years, one would expect that whether or not an upcoming tentpole movie will be in 3D is going to replace the "PG-13 vs. R" question that most filmmakers tend to get. The latest movie that seems to be going that route is Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox's planned Alien Prequel.

UK sci-fi site Shadow Locked had a chance to talk with art director Roger Christian who worked on Star Wars and Alien, and they asked him about the direction Scott might take with a prequel, the two of them having worked together on the original movie. Besides dropping the fact that it will be shot in 3D, he hinted at a possible trilogy in the franchise's future.

He told them: "Ridley's doing the next Alien in 3D. Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there's ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I'm hoping he'll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it - everybody."

Christian met with Scott, but hasn't confirmed that he might be involved with the new prequel, reuniting the duo for the first time in over 30 years.

Off this weekend to see it in Imax cannot wait!
Manutd123 your review got me re pumped after hearing alot of negativity! Im going to go in with a completely blank mind and see what i make of it!

I also think a lot of people are going on expecting an Alien prequel and are getting confused when its not. I'm pretty Ridley Scott came out a month or so ago and confirmed that it would not be a prequel when there was a ton of speculation. Even still I hear people, including on the radio last week, say its an Alien prequel.

hehehe, DB not even looking at this thread as she doesn't want to spoil it for her.

Agree with you cooey, something missing, for me that's the second movie. :) The 3D worked very well (in the very small cinema that I saw it in) and intend to see on local IMAX at weekend.

Also good news for those getting the book, Amazon sent email this morning,
Mark Salisbury "Prometheus: The Art of the Film (Film Tie in)"
Previous estimated arrival date: August 08 2012 - August 09 2012
New estimated arrival date: June 16 2012

Just saw it in IMAX. Thought it was pretty meh. Too much dramatic acting and too much Grandpa Guy Pearce. Seriously, why couldn't they have just hired an old guy to play Weyland? The movie just seemed to drag too.

It hurts me to say this, but if I was assigning a fresh/rotten score to it, it's definitely rotten.

Just saw this tonight. I personally really enjoyed this movie, even more so than Avengers and I'm a huge Marvel fan. The design of the film is great. There are a few things that we're kinda unbelievable but overall still good. I've been hearing alot of people complaining about the story. The story has very big ideas and doesn't fully explain them but thats what makes it so intriguing for me.

We saw it last night & really enjoyed it. I'm still thinking about some of the concepts Scott threw at us. I do agree that old Guy Pearce didn't look quite right. If they wanted to use him at his current age for the viral campaign that's fine. Why not hire an older actor to play older Weyland. Would there really have been a huge uproar? Probably going to see it again in another week :movie:

While i really enjoyed the movie i also felt there was something missing and there are definitely some loose ends in the plot too.

I agree the movie can stand on its own, like they intended but its also clearly a prequel and with that in mind, it lacks the tension we saw in Alien and in my eyes its partly because they replace the unsettling silences with big orchestra pieces in the suspense scenes.

One other thing that bugged me was the lack of consistency on everyone that got infected because the end result was different every time. I mean some just died, some mutated into something else and some got the old alien in your chest thing.

Also didnt get the whole aged Guy Pierce thing either. Unless they are going for a prequel of this. The viral videos cant be the only reason why they chose a younger actor to play an old dude...

Overall, i loved the movie as a very well made Sci-FY movie with awesome horror moments like the C-Section scene (How cool was that!) but i still think i need an Extended/Directors cut because i cant stop having this feeling that Fox chopped this movie like crazy in the editing room to try and reduce it to a 2 hour movie.

Well at first glance Kingdom of Heaven comes to mind, not that i enjoyed either of the cuts of this movie...

*usually

Ridley's version of Kingdom is 3+ hours though.

Robin Hood had a legit DC too. Other films have an "extended version," which isn't a director's cut.

That's interesting. The Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven was much, much better. In the Theatrical Cut, I disliked Orlando Bloom's character, Balian. However, in the Director's Cut, Balian was a lot tougher, and a better leader.

Well, a 3 hour cut is probably what Prometheus needs and i wouldn't mind that at all, as long as it enriches the movie in a way like ripclaw said about the DC of Kingdom of Heaven.
