Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have announced that they are hosting a We are PlayStation photography competition that has now launched in Europe. Electronic Theatre ImageThe team?s jubilation at getting a BUZZ! question right; the laughter of a room full of SingStar fans; the entertaining journeys playing your PlayStation Portable! They?re all classic PlayStation moments that you?ve seen or experienced hundreds of times - but can you capture them in a photo? If you can, your name could be in the hat to win some great prizes. There?s also the possibility of a serious cash prize, the possibility of the images being used in future PlayStation campaigns as well as a new Sony D-SLR a350 digital camera and lens. Get snapping and upload your photos by the 16th March 2009 for a chance to win.

The rules are simple ? capture the perfect image of you, your friends or your family enjoying a PlayStation moment with your PLAYSTATION3, PlayStation2 or PlayStation Portable and upload it to www.weareplaystation.com. There are different categories your photos could enter: Caught in the Moment, Unexpected Places, PlayStation Parties, True Love and Endless Play. A panel of guest judges will assess top user-rated snaps on their merits and work out which photographer deserves the top prize of 1000 euros and a Sony D-SLR a350 camera. Ten runners up will receive cash prizes of 100 euros each, while the next best 100 entries will get their hands on a top PlayStation game or vouchers for the PlayStation Store. All entries have the chance of being used in a future PlayStation marketing campaign.

Of course, PlayStation is all about its community ? and that?s why we?re asking you to judge the first round of the competition. PlayStation fans can visit the website and decide which shots will be put before the judges by rating each photo with a score from one to five. Also, every time you Electronic Theatre Imageenter the site, you can give your favourite image a secret ?Super Vote? which will be used to determine the finalists in case several entries generate the same overall rating. The images with the highest average score and, in the event of a tie, with the highest number of ?Super Votes? will go before the judging panel ? so it pays to get everyone you know onto the site and voting.

With so many great moments for so many different PlayStation communities, this is the chance not only to show off your natural eye for a photograph, but also to show the world just how much fun you have with your friends ? and a PLAYSTATION3, PlayStation2 or PlayStation Portable. Visit www.weareplaystation.com for competition terms and conditions and get snapping!

whaaat??? all this for spending less than $500??????? am i missing something? all i have to do to get a free trip and ticket to E3 is spend $500 at gamestop, on top of that i get a $50 gift card and a free game????

That's $500 + And that's starting at that level. So who knows exactly what you need for each level. I.E. 500 = free game 600 = $50 Gift Card 1K points = E3 pass. It doesn't specifically break it down. For now, I think I'll stick to bestbuy. I still earn my money faster ala $150 = $10

Best Buy to offer $10 PSN cards

Is the economic downturn putting a strain on your wallet? Can’t afford to shell out for those hefty $20/$50 USD PlayStation Network cards? If so, then you’re in luck – Best Buy has confirmed it will be offering the cards at a recession-busting $10 USD denomination.

In addition, the company is also advertising a $20 USD prepaid LittleBigPlanet-branded ‘collectible art’ card, though it remains unknown exactly when punters will be able to get their hands on both of these items.

Carmack says it is 'likely' Sony will launch new console first

Id Software technical director John Carmack reckons that Sony will be the first console manufacturer to make the transition to the next generation of gaming platforms, though noted he doesn't expect any announcements to be made on the subject anytime soon.

Speaking to CD-Action, Carmack observed that Sony may want to launch its successor to the PlayStation 3 first in order to prevent a similar scenario to the current hardware cycle, where Microsoft gained the upper hand by releasing Xbox 360 a full year ahead of the competition.

“The whole jockeying for who's going to release the first next-gen console is very interesting and pretty divorced from the technical side of things,” he said, adding, “Whether Sony wants to jump the gun to prevent the same sort of 360 lag from happening to them again seems likely.”

“As developers, we would really like to see this generation stretch as long as possible. We'd like to see it be quite a few more years before the next-gen consoles comes out, but I suspect one will end up shipping something earlier rather than later.”

He also stated his belief that at least one next-gen machine would ship without the capacity for optimal media.

“I think that Xbox Live and the advent of that and the App Store with the iPhone are wonderful signs of the future of digital distribution,” said Carmack.

“I think there's a decent chance that one of the next-gen consoles will be without optical media. The uptake rates of people who have broadband connects surprised everyone this generation. It's higher than what the core publishers and even the first party people expected.”

thats awesome. I'd love to gift some alot of times but dont wanna give out $20s as then I hit the budget real quick without really giving out to that many people ... this will help for give-aways :D

Sony to reveal European Video Store plans

Sony plans on revealing its European plans for the PlayStation 3 Video Store at next week’s GamesCom, according to Angela Madronero, manager of the European PlayStation Store.

“We will be making an official announcement regarding our forthcoming Video Store, next week, at GamesCom,” said Madronero. You can expect the announcement to come during Sony’s press conference on Tuesday, August 18.

The U.S. video-on-demand service went live last year, and former SCEE boss David Reeves has said the service won’t come to Europe until 2009.

Grants available for PSN projects

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is hosting a three-day event in October to give digital developers an opportunity to compete for £10,000 GBP grants. In the second annual Get in the Game event, smaller digital developers will get their chance to have their projects heard by SCEE for possible inclusion on the PlayStation Network.

The event, which is hosted in conjunction with Pixel-Lab and Northwest Vision, will also give digital developers the chance to pitch to Xdev Studio Europe.

If you think you have a concept for a great PSN game, pitch it during the three-day workshop from October 14 through 16. Then, submit your projects to the Get in the Game event in November, where five entrants will receive £10,000 grants.

Last year saw two successful pitches that are currently in consideration at Sony.

Sony working on video store for Canadians

With recent news of European PlayStation 3 owners getting a video store, PSU decided to ask Sony if Canadian gamers can expect their own video service any time soon.

A representative from Sony told us, “The Canadian PSN is the same as the U.S. with only one difference – the video store. This is something we are working very hard to correct. All other aspects of the store are the same, including prices.”

It appears Canadian PS3 owners hoping for a video store will have to wait a little while longer. But, hopefully it’s reassuring to know Sony is working to correct the lack of video store in Canada.

Sony enhancing PlayStation Trophies online

In the ongoing debate between European and American PlayStation gamers about which region gets certain features and when, it appears the Americans are doing some catch-up this week in regards to online Trophy support. Sony announced today that U.S. gamers will see a significant enhancement to the way they view their Trophies online.

Some of the biggest additions include the ability to compare your trophies with multiple friends and other PSN ID’s, track your progress to the next level against friends, a new sorting feature, more detailed Trophy information on PlayStation.com, and the ability to compare details on trophies within each game. Many of these features are already available in Europe.

The portable ID has been enhanced with Trophy data so you can take your portable ID with you to official game sites, social networks, and other third-party sites. This should make it easier to show off your Trophies. Your PlayStation Network Portable ID will link directly to your public trophy page on us.PlayStation.com.

Here’s a walkthrough video of the new features from the PlayStation Blog:

+View detailed info on your trophies on PlayStation.com
+Compare your trophies with multiple friends and other PSN ID’s
+Compare details on trophies within each game
+Track your progress to the next level against friends
+See what trophies you have and what you still need to unlock for each game
+Use the sorting features to plan your game domination
+In addition, the portable ID has been enhanced with trophy data so you’ll also be able to take your portable ID with you to official game sites, social networks and other third party sites making it easier to show off your trophies and gamer status with friends online. Your PlayStation Network Portable ID will link directly to your public trophy page on us.PlayStation.com.

its weird because all movies in Canada are bi-langual with french on it ... so im curious to see if they have to include that when making a canadian store ... is it a law? would their DLs have to offer French/English language.

i know one thig is for sure here in Canada. Radio and television HAS to play a percentage of "canadian content" therefor 40% of the music played on our radio stations HAS to be by a canadian artist. It's freakin rediculous and It's something I have been fighting against for years. one of the big things affected by this is the TV commercials that are played during the superbowl. Unless we can somehow get an american feed (which I have been able to do recently since HD has come about) most of the commercials we get are local BS stuff. We prolly see about 50% of the commercials that actually play in the states.

Back on topic tho, I would prolly wouldn't use this movie service anyway. I'd rather buy and watch the Blu's.
