As some of you may know Wal-Mart here in the states will be receiving these SteelBooks, which are exactly the same as the ones from Futureshop in Canada. Per another forum they mentioned that the release date is on this Tuesday (8/31/10). Each SteelBook™ is set to retail for $15 each which is pretty cheap for a SteelBook™.

Just came back from my local Wal-Mart and they had about 7-8 of each, except for Degenration which they only had 4 copies of. I saw almost 2-3 of each that had some damage.

I just got back from the Walmart closest to my work - nothing on the shelves yet.

Are these things on their own display section or do they mix them up with the other blus?

Andy at the local Wal-Mart they were next to an end cap where they had the weekly new Blu-Rays and were not next to the display where their regular Blu-Ray's were at. BTW, I just checked the region coding on all of them and they are all region free, except for Resident Evil Apocalypse which claims it's only region "A".

Thanks Juan - I definitely didn't miss them at this Walmart then. :(

I believe you are correct - Apocalypse is region A locked.

Damn I just opened Resident Evil 1 and it had some tiny dents on the front and a pretty nasty one behind the paper sleeve, big time suxors! BTW Andy it doesn't state on the actual SteelBook where it's from.

Hmmmm. Interesting. Thanks for checking Juan.

Andy, the wal mart I was at had them on a DVD shelf. Of course I didn't think to look there but when I asked an associate, he knew exactly what I was talking about, and pointed them out to me. They were packaged in the plastic anti theft casings, but they all appeared to be in solid condition. Picked up a set! :scat:

That's interesting Dariusz - I checked the DVD section too and couldn't spot anything at this one.

I'll go to the closest to my house tonight and see if they have any.

Still trying to figure out if every walmart is supposed to get these or not. :wtf:

If I had to guess, I would say that not every wal mart is going to get these. Just a guess though. Wal Mart's that have a tiny blu selection for example, I would think that they may not see these. Good luck on the hunt!

Just got back and I have all of them except for Apocalypse. It has a tiny dent on the back near the spine, oh wells. The ones that were left were in much worse shape than that one. So my advice is to double check your copies before you walk out. I ended up doing my exchange at customer service and they let me open them up there and inspect them to my liking, luckily.

I didn't open mine but after I paid for them at the movie section, I checked them out in the store to make sure there was no visible damage. I just ran my fingers across the surface of the backs of the movies. I don't feel any depressions, but it seems to me that they used glue on all of the backs except the first one. Surprisingly, the store I was at had pretty nice steels on the racks! :)

Funny story that only my fellow Steelbook nuts can appreciate. I go to WM to get my set, and a set for a friend with whom I trade overseas and 1 spare set to trade or sell. So I get to the counter, and the guy smiles and says "You didn't buy them ALL did you?". I said "No", and smiled. Then he starts taking off the hard plastic security cases. Another guy that worked in the store came over, and as he is talking starts grabbing my stack and says "You need some help?" to the guy behind the counter. He adds "Here it will go faster"...he lets the Steelbook slide out of the case and bang from standing position onto the hard counter. Still with a smile and calmly, I said "Yikes, oh my goodness, thank you for your help, but they are no good to anyone 'dented'. I was still laughing at his misplaced fervor while "assisting", and asked to exchange it, thinking he'd turn to me and smile, as I usually get requests for dates when I appear in the electronics section (I am a woman, apparently a rare sight...), and not a nasty face. Instead, despite the fact that I was laughing and nearly catching the Steels as he was sliding them out, while not even looking, the guy stopped and said "Ok fine, I'll leave then, and walked away, and said 'I'll get outta here, then, if you don't want help, ok fine!". The guy that was originally looking at me just looked at him walk away. I was like "Woah, ok". Then the original guy says "You know what they should have done is make them $30, then no one would have bought them".

I laughed inside, at the fact of how much some of us have spent on Steelbooks, but didn't want to go there. This kind of stuff happens to me a few times a year as I try to help people as much as they've helped me with international exclusives, and I just cringe at how the Steelbooks are "generally" handled at the retailers.

He then said "I am waiting for them to make a Trilogy as Steelbook". I shared that Germany had one, and it was wicked, but then he said "Yeah but one that plays here". I shared that it does, and he says "Yeah but a legitimate Blu-Ray not a bootleg". I said I always support the official movie/artist's work, and that despite the region coding tag, most Blu-Rays will play on any player, and are unlocked. I thought he would ask me if I worked for the BDA, but as we were both smiling and casually chatting, I didn't want to throw that in as a joke, too:) I thought about leaving the bluraysteelbooks.com site on the counter, but thought better of it;)

Oi vey-maybe I need to be checked into "Steelhab"

;P

Funny stuff DB!

I had the same experience. The clerk was unlocking the anti theft cases and letting the steels drop out on to the counter. I told him to be careful as these were collector items. He said he knew that. He corrected his way and used his fingers to pry the steels out. No damage was done to the first copy (thank god!). He then went on to tell me that the steelbooks were pretty tough. I said really? He told me he had a Splinter Cell steel or tin (I had no clue what he was talking about actually), and that one day he was in a rage and he chucked the first thing he saw down the stairs, which happened to be Splinter Cell. He said that nothing happened to the case. I was thinking to myself, whatever man, just be careful with my steels lol! :hilarious:
