some films simply don't need to be remade though.
So was this planned as 12a from the get go? Or was it cut down like die hard 4? Would love to see some kind of uncut version
Lame. This was officially planned right from day one to get a rating that would allow kids to see it. Director even confirmed it several times to official media mags etc
Better than the original?
Really?
Wow, just wow!
The remake is inferior on every level.
An appalling script, full of endless dull exposition, subpar performances, added tedious and unconvincing domestic melodrama relating to Murphy’s family life and no notable villains, poor CGI that can't hold a candle to Phil Tippetts amazing work in the original film and at attempts at humour and satire that fall completely flat.
An utterly soulless and horrible movie experience that I couldn't wait to escape from.
Do people think that if a movie is a remake, it will be terrible? I highly doubt it.
If it is terrible, then the original couldn't have been all that good either. You can't compare a truly terrible movie with RoboCop 2014. It's just not possible.
When someone calls a remake terrible, it is just to emphasise the fact they didn't want their original movie remade. For whatever reason. OR it is to show that they are hip and retro and think by saying the original was better than the remake, it makes them total movie critics who know what they are talking about. When in actual fact, they secretly loved the remake more and don't want to sound like the generic every day movie goer.
Dawn of the Dead remake - FAR superior than the original
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Amityville Horror
Carrie
The Last House on the Left
RoboCop
and many more... FAR FAR surpass their originals in most ways than not. People just don't want to admit it. But that's cool. I, on the other hand, speak the truth. I take 2 movies side by side and then openly compare.
The above is of course, all of my own opinions. So whatever comes next. Please re-read my opinion if you have any disagreements......
Steelbook... I will buy.
I'd question pretty much all of those examples you've given, so thankfully it's only your opinion.
Your statement that the Dawn Of The Dead remake is far better is probably my favourite though!![]()
Have you seen the original? The acting is terrible! I was opposed to the remake until I rewatched the original recently. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. I've never been a big fan of the film to be honest, but there are many things to enjoy like the premonitions, satire, gore, suit, commercials/news reports... But now I'm open to seeing the remake because the original is really dated and cheesy, and some of the effects have not held up.

Okay, the original did have cheesy 80's dialogue and to a degree, bad acting. But there's something so moreish about 80's films that can never be replicated in cinema today.
If you think the original is awful, that's just your opinion. It most certainly isn't the best film ever made, at least in my opinion. I think nostalgia overrides quality in some aspects. It's like Predator and Home Alone, two completely different films, with great nostalgic value but the films themselves aren't cinematic masterpieces. Just good fun.
As for the remake, it's obviously taking itself far too seriously. And casting big shot Hollywood stars was their first blunder. Samuel L. Jackson and Robert De Niro are overwhelming these days, no longer the legends they used to be, as they keep taking every feasible role that is up for grabs!
I know De Niro isn't in the film, just an example, but if he was approached I don't think he'd have declined a part![]()
You cannot be serious right? There is no way Robocop is outdated, I rewatched yesterday and in my opinion still holds up to any sci-fi film made today. It out does everything on the remake (including special effect - The ED 209 is far more menacing in 1987 then in the new one - he's lost his famous growl).
The acting is awful in the remake... Samuel L Jackson was a joke, Joel Kinnaman was so wooden it was unbelievable... The Villains in this, well there are no Villains. Not like Clarence Boddicker or Dick Jones... The main villain, Michael Keaton (who is great) really only cares about profits. The script was bloated, the film took everything that was great about the original and discarded it!
You ever hear the concept of "The Ghost in the Machine"? That was Alex Murphy... When he woke up as Robocop he had no recollection of who he was, only fragments of his human self seeped through... from his Gun twirl and holster to his famous line "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" it was about his journey in regaining humanity.
I'm all for remakes as long as they take the original story and enhance it or add it, not take things away... Great examples are The Thing, The Fly, Scarface etc.In the remake he wakes up and he knows exactly who he is, that he's got a family and it's about him coping to be a machine... They blew it right from the start! I could go on, but I won't.
Okay I think I'm done for now, but to say the original is awful is blasphemy!
I hear a lot of negative reviews but also many positive so I'll watch it and make my own mind up. Dredd had many naysayers and I really enjoyed that (I had watched The Raid quite recently as well)
