I miss the days when movie companys didnt care what rating they got they just wanted to make a good movie.

Nowadays tons gets cut just because they want to reach the younger crowd, its a smart business decision, but it hurts my movie loving heart.

So was this planned as 12a from the get go? Or was it cut down like die hard 4? Would love to see some kind of uncut version

This was officially planned right from day one to get a rating that would allow kids to see it. Director even confirmed it several times to official media mags etc

Better than the original?
Really? EEK!

Wow, just wow!

The remake is inferior on every level.

An appalling script, full of endless dull exposition, subpar performances, added tedious and unconvincing domestic melodrama relating to Murphy’s family life and no notable villains, poor CGI that can't hold a candle to Phil Tippetts amazing work in the original film and at attempts at humour and satire that fall completely flat.

An utterly soulless and horrible movie experience that I couldn't wait to escape from.

Have you seen the original? The acting is terrible! I was opposed to the remake until I rewatched the original recently. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. I've never been a big fan of the film to be honest, but there are many things to enjoy like the premonitions, satire, gore, suit, commercials/news reports... But now I'm open to seeing the remake because the original is really dated and cheesy, and some of the effects have not held up.

Do people think that if a movie is a remake, it will be terrible? I highly doubt it.

If it is terrible, then the original couldn't have been all that good either. You can't compare a truly terrible movie with RoboCop 2014. It's just not possible.

When someone calls a remake terrible, it is just to emphasise the fact they didn't want their original movie remade. For whatever reason. OR it is to show that they are hip and retro and think by saying the original was better than the remake, it makes them total movie critics who know what they are talking about. When in actual fact, they secretly loved the remake more and don't want to sound like the generic every day movie goer.

Dawn of the Dead remake - FAR superior than the original
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Amityville Horror
Carrie
The Last House on the Left
RoboCop

and many more... FAR FAR surpass their originals in most ways than not. People just don't want to admit it. But that's cool. I, on the other hand, speak the truth. I take 2 movies side by side and then openly compare.

The above is of course, all of my own opinions. So whatever comes next. Please re-read my opinion if you have any disagreements...... :)

Steelbook... I will buy.

I was with you until you said the remake for Carrie is far far better than the original. Although I agree about Dawn of the Dead and The Last House on the Left. I used to think The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake was far far better than the original, but now I love both equally.

I'd question pretty much all of those examples you've given, so thankfully it's only your opinion.

Your statement that the Dawn Of The Dead remake is far better is probably my favourite though! :D

I've tried a number of times to enjoy the original Dawn of the Dead, each time reminding myself of its reputation, but I just can't. The acting is terrible and really pulls me out of it. I greatly prefer the remake and the original Day of the Dead.

You cannot be serious right? There is no way Robocop is outdated, I rewatched yesterday and in my opinion still holds up to any sci-fi film made today. It out does everything on the remake (including special effect - The ED 209 is far more menacing in 1987 then in the new one - he's lost his famous growl).

The acting is awful in the remake... Samuel L Jackson was a joke, Joel Kinnaman was so wooden it was unbelievable... The Villains in this, well there are no Villains. Not like Clarence Boddicker or Dick Jones... The main villain, Michael Keaton (who is great) really only cares about profits. The script was bloated, the film took everything that was great about the original and discarded it!

You ever hear the concept of "The Ghost in the Machine"? That was Alex Murphy... When he woke up as Robocop he had no recollection of who he was, only fragments of his human self seeped through... from his Gun twirl and holster to his famous line "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" it was about his journey in regaining humanity.

In the remake he wakes up and he knows exactly who he is, that he's got a family and it's about him coping to be a machine... They blew it right from the start! I could go on, but I won't.
I'm all for remakes as long as they take the original story and enhance it or add it, not take things away... Great examples are The Thing, The Fly, Scarface etc.

Okay I think I'm done for now, but to say the original is awful is blasphemy!

It's not that the CG is bad in the film but it suffers from the same thing Iron Man does. When it's CG the suit seems to be the fastest thing ever!
When he walks done the corridor its very "robotic" like, then when he is fighting the ED-209s he is everywhere! sliding along the floor and jumping on top. There's no stopping him.
Same with IM. Noticed it on a very simple shot in IM3. After escaping the baddies lair he is wearing suit he walks down some stairs outside. A really simple shot (and after seeing many pictures of RDJ wearing a full suit) yet that was CG.

Very well said Man Of Steel, i agree with what you said and the same thoughts went through my head today whilst watching the remake.. I personally was quite bored during some points of this movie, where as the original is just as entertaining today (for me) as it was when i watched it on its release. This remake just didn't cut it ( just didn't tick all of my movie enjoyment boxses) and I'll be cancelling my steelbook and saving myself £20, for everyone that loves this movie:scat: and therefore it'll be a great addition to your collections.

Okay, the original did have cheesy 80's dialogue and to a degree, bad acting. But there's something so moreish about 80's films that can never be replicated in cinema today.

If you think the original is awful, that's just your opinion. It most certainly isn't the best film ever made, at least in my opinion. I think nostalgia overrides quality in some aspects. It's like Predator and Home Alone, two completely different films, with great nostalgic value but the films themselves aren't cinematic masterpieces. Just good fun.

As for the remake, it's obviously taking itself far too seriously. And casting big shot Hollywood stars was their first blunder. Samuel L. Jackson and Robert De Niro are overwhelming these days, no longer the legends they used to be, as they keep taking every feasible role that is up for grabs!

I know De Niro isn't in the film, just an example, but if he was approached I don't think he'd have declined a part :D

DeNiro was awesome in Silver Lining's Playbook. One of his best roles in a long time.

I didn't say the original is awful, I said the acting was awful (except for Clarence Boddicker and Bob Morton). I've always liked the original (but not loved it). I don't know how you guys can claim the original is in no way dated. It screams '80s (not that that's a bad thing). The hairstyles, costumes, stop-motion animation, the gang's acting/dialogue, the shot of
Dick Jones falling out of the building

I know it's not a popular opinion. The original is regarded by many to be a classic. But I think nostalgia plays a factor into some people's beliefs that the original is a masterpiece.

I hear a lot of negative reviews but also many positive so I'll watch it and make my own mind up. Dredd had many naysayers and I really enjoyed that (I had watched The Raid quite recently as well)

People's opinions differ so drastically. I thought Elysium was going to be awesome and didn't enjoy it at all; I thought Captain Phillips would be kind of slow but I was in suspense the whole time. I just read people's opinions, take them into account, watch the movie and make my own. Then i go post it for others to read and disregard as it suits them :)
