I'm glad someone has finally acknowledged a post of mine, they seem to get lost amongst the pages and pages of HDN worship. I love the site, I love how we get exclusive information and our say in upcoming releases. I love how Wreck tries to get our message across to those who make the decisions. What I don't love is the site trying to take advantage of collectors. Essentially this is a money maker for the site. You've got the cost of the release itself, then all of the new Ninja sign-ups, the sponsored links, the shameless promotion of certain retailers. This has become less about being a resource for collectors but more about lining the pockets of those who run the site. I have no problem with people making money from their site by the way, just how it is being attempted here.

As has already been discussed Wreck and Co took money out of pocket to pay for this up front. I would bet you that this one release will not "line" anyones pockets. As to new members signing up, I think some people got too hyped and jumped the gun personally but at no point did anyone state sign up or you won't have any shot at it.

I am always open to show you my bank account so you can see how the money is not being lined up. I assure you the costs of this is major and we are not forcing anyone to get anything nor was an attempt at a money making scheme. If we would have done this 2 years ago, I guarantee you we would of had the same effect as now. Surely, there are more things coming down the pipeline that we are working on that sure enough cost quite a bit of money. We are not getting rich off of this if that is what you are implying.

This thread makes me laugh, I cannot believe the amount of people saying they are going to purchase something that they have no clue of what it is. What the hell are you saying.
Godd luck to HDN with this, I hope it does help to raise some money for the routine upkeep of the site, one thing for sure though, I'll not be buying anything at all until I know what it is.

Please stop whining,that's enough!
C'mon man, you've made your point several times (in this and in another thread)...
I (We) understand and respect your point but let it go man.

I'm sure Wreck and co would love your ideas on how to add an income stream (or simply cover their own expenses) that doesn't leave someone feeling out of pocket - because those incentives don't exist. ONE aspect of this site is this exclusive steelbook. It isn't overtaking all the other positive things that you mentioned regarding HDN, it isn't replacing them - its supplementing them.

Nobody is being forced to buy this steel. It's an option that's there for anyone if they wish. I notice that you were happy to get involved with the ES exclusive of Jack Reacher - what's the difference? That didn't include any 'extras' at all yet it cost nearly $45, and didn't represent any community, it was just another store selling steels from a larger run. With the HDN steel you DO get extras (irrespective of whether you like them) and you get #1 on the list. I love this community and want something that represents my part in the community, and this fits the bill perfectly. Nobody is demanding I buy it, but I'm sitting thinking 'I spend an obscene amount of time here, contribute to it and take advice and save money from it, I want something tangible to represent my membership here'. On that basis I'd consider it similar to buying the football kit for my favourite team - it's just a polyester shirt and means nothing but it shows that I'm a supporter and gives me something to show for my years following them.

I would like to point out that HDN isn't beyond reproach and of course like any site there are things they will get right and things they will get wrong. It isn't a HDN love in at all, merely an appreciation that its saved me money and helped in my hobby. By all means raise concerns and ask questions, but don't act like everyone is brainwashed because they're not drinking from the same fountain as you. I'd also point out that bad mouthing HDN on other sites is incredibly bad form especially when you get a lot of your information from here and post it over there for credit.

I'm not implying that anyone has got rich through this, but as you can see from Wreck's earlier comment, the number of Ninja members has rocketed. The Steelbook itself is also overpriced in my opinion. As I say I have no issue with anyone trying to make money off the back of their own ideas, but I don't agree with the way this has been handled at all.

My main feeling is that the first HDN exclusive should've been saved for something really special, not this. I believe this has tarnished HDN at least for me anyway.

I hope this post can be appreciated for the points I have made and not be dismissed as a rant or anything of the kind.

I would have no problem signing up, but I just saw this thread for the first time about an hour or so ago and, in reading through all 17 pages, I just saw that Wreck closed the gates a few minutes ago for becoming a new "Ninja".

Jimmy, Wreck didn't close the gates from becoming a paid up Ninja, you can still do so here. :D

You don't need to know what the exclusive is to support your community. If you know the proceeds to go support something you enjoy why does it matter what the result/prize/buy is. I highly doubt much will be made on the actual steelbook purchase to keep costs down for the members.

Unfortunately I had to pass on this steelbook, mainly because I didn't like the movie at all.
It's against my rules to buy stuff which I don't like. I think more people should do that here. ^^ ;)

Goodjob HDN, I am sure more steelbooks will follow, it's already a success and a good way to support HDN in general.

Wootball, that is an exceptionally well worded response; I congratulate you on its clarity. Snooloui, we love you really, and I for one always enjoy your posts. I see nothing wrong with different viewpoints, which is why I enjoy the discussions raised here about steelbooks so enjoyable.

Personally, I look forward to discovering what the HDN release will be. Bring it on!

I really hope the artwork is different from the current releases of this movie. If It is, im anxious to see what is come up with vs the current releases.
