It's not even remotely similar. Different territory, different artwork - not to mention that Play was UK only and made it more desirable overseas due to rarity. Now, Zavvi ship worldwide - people don't need to even look for the 1st edition now, they can just stick an order in for this one.

I am not saying anyone is right or wrong. It is the difference in the way we all feel when collecting.

I am not a rich person, so I always welcome re-releases. I am sitting with the German release at the moment, and I feel sorry for myself. So for an affordable UK version to become available, I am happy with that.

I collect steelbooks. No matter how rare, or how widely available it is, I am happy.

I like the fact that Zavvi allow orders outside the UK. Why shouldnt worldwide collectors get the chance to own a steelbook at cost price? Why should we let ebay scalpers do them out of hard earned money?

It's a steel of the same movie with the same artwork then. I'm not sure why you're trying to defend the first release so much - selling some?

He's been itching to post that picture of himself bathing in Star Trek Steels since he bought them all last year for £100 a go :hilarious:

Like I said in the other post, I only own the German release.

Im not trying to make waves and I for one having just bought a sealed minty copy of the play release am a little saddened but I think this is a reprint and not a re release as a re release would have the same amount of discs? Although I maybe wrong lol

And now since they are dead Zavvi comes along and ruins everything.

I'm interested to know how one retailer is ruining everything. As far as I can see, if it wasn't for Amazon and Zavvi, the UK would've seen the end of steelbooks. Lets not forget that Zavvi are bringing us a pretty phenomenal Collector's item in WFRR with debossed AND embossed artwork and a 3k print run.

And to the new Steelbook...this may be good looking. But it will always be a cheap piece of metal without any ideally worth.

Clearly a lot of members here disagree with you about the "worth". I'm personally not a fan of this steelbook and didn't care enough to own it in steelbook form, but a lot of others saw the worth in it.

It is highly, HIGHLY doubtful this will be the same as the original release.

And lets not forget there are already 2 existing releases at the moment. The german version also. Which again, has different artwork.

Is it expected to be a different release? Less content/different finish to the steel or both?

I don't disagree with the earlier comment completely - the price of the FS version is highly unlikely to drop coz of this, steel collectors will always remain interested in the 'original'!

I personally believe the new release will be 1 disc. It will have border embossing and title embossing like Iron Man and Thor.

It will be matt finish, with glossy title and a gloss star ship.

That is my thoughts.

That would be pretty awesome. If this was just a continuation of what Paramount were doing with Play.com last year, I wouldn't be too disappointed. A great release for those who don't already own it and something a bit different for those worried about their original versions.

this is ideal for me and other collectors that came into the Steelbook game after this was OOS and save having to pay the current premium, i enjoyed the film but i cant warrent paying the heavy prices for some steelbooks or id never have food in my fridge :hilarious:

Im not a hardcore collector, I buy the films I like in steelbooks because I like to own something different than the bog standard amaray copy you can buy anywhere, the various re releases around the world dont really bother me, Iron man for example, I like the film, but Id never pay the crazy prices of the futureshop one to own it so when Play announced their version that was great for me, it sold out quickly, so a lot of folks probably missed out on it...and the prices on the secondary market have risen quite a lot since.

Would I be gutted if it was re released? ..kind of.. because it takes away some of the 'exclusiveness' out of it, but not from any kind of financial aspect, my collection has never been about its worth or as any kind of misguided investment. I always shake my head in disbelief at folks who say if they fall on hard times they can sell their steelbooks to make ends meet, and re releases put this plan in jeopardy...If your plan for the future is based on the resale value of your Bluray collection there is something seriously wrong with your priorities, you probably have the rest of your money invested in HMV shares and magic beans :hilarious:

What Im trying to say in a somewhat long winded way is Yay! I can finally own the Star Trek film in a steelbook at a price Im willing to pay after missing out on the Play.com original that came out just before I moved over to Bluray..... I wouldnt have been bothered if it was different artwork either

How is this still happening? If the UK grail isn't safe what is? This feels like I am being kicked in the nuts and robbed. The word exclusive has no meaning to greedy economists. I can kind of understand a re-release with different art work but this is a joke. People act like buying steelbooks is the only way to watch a blu disc these days. You missed it, so what go buy the amaray.

But I wasn't into collecting steelbooks when it originally came out.

Me personally, I'm not fussed if they re-release them, I just like having the films I like in steelbook. They could re-release the Play.com Iron Man flicks (which I own), and it really wouldn't upset me.

But each to their own, I'm in the minority where my view is, the more steelbooks - the better.
