I've pre-ordered 3 main reason is to make sure I get one undamaged as my Play one has a big dent on top side and not been able to fix it fully. So this I can swap covers.

Everyone's up in arms over this having the same artwork as Play's original. Has this artwork actually been confirmed?

Surely the pic is only a placeholder as (if I remember correctly) Wreck mentioned before that artworks had to differ (even if it's slightly) for different releases.

I remember him telling us that they had to tweak the artwork for Play's Watchmen so as it would differ from FS's.

I recall reading that play.com changed the watchmen art cause wreck reasoned with play to make collectors happy by not reusing the fs art...maybe wrong that was a while ago :p

& i thought he said in an earlier post its the same art, wont be as fancy as the original. & that he would've tried to get them to use different art but he found out bout it too late.(that post's on the 1st page)

I suppose the main difference will be the number of discs it comes with. I do not own this as I am new to the steelbook world so have already pre-ordered it, To me though the original is still a 'must have' as it is the original and I am still looking to pick it up when I can afford it.

I collect vinyl as well as steelbooks and you tend to find with records that the labels can re-print or re-issue an LP as many times as they like but it never tends to have a negative impact on the value of the original first press, the value of first press rare records just goes up and up regardless of how many reissues are released.

I may be wrong on this but I feel that the 1st press will still hold its value and this will continue to rise with time. If I am to get a 1st press I should really get one soon as in a couple of years time it will cost me even more!!

What he said. Ditto with comics - a 2nd or 3rd print run does not take away from the desirability or limited nature of the first print run. There will always be those who desire and seek out these, and as such they will always have a premium in any marketplace. That said, there will also be those who seek to profit from this collector/enthusiast nature.
Me - I don't have the original. I will get this one. I will also eventually get the original and may at that point part with the 2013 Zavvi copy. Or not. Time will tell. For me it s about the movie, so it will be opened, it will be consumed and also loved as part of the collection. I've not interest in owning multiple copies from different releases/countries - but that's me. That's how I collect.

Wow...never realized that a re-release (or whatever it is) of this title would have such an impact on our community... ha ha it's kind a fun reading through your thoughts though...

I don't care about collectors/traders, they can fight all they like over the advantages/disadvantages of artificial scarcity.

I care about the quality of the product I put on my shelf, this is now a catalog title and if the quality isn't good, then it's a no-purchase from me for that price. I am definitely not one of those people who must own a tin case for every film. Make it a premium product or don't bother at all, imo. I am paying premium prices (and yes, £11-£15 for a 1 disc catalog title is a premium price), and it takes time and effort to get hold of these things.

A re-print would be fine as the original was very good quality. It's up to retailers (or whoever makes the decisions) to decide whether it's a good bit of business to re-print or release a different steelbook (or nothing at all). Keep the gloss, maybe lose the blue banner.

Also, you debossing fiends are crazy, everything has to be debossed these days, it's all a bit gimmicky. Nothing about the original design says to me that anything needs to be debossed/embossed.

My friend just the other week said this would get re-released and I had to laugh at his prediction when I saw it but at the same time I feel for anyone who paid over odds for an original.

Still my view is, being a collector, I'd be happy with either. I don't buy them to make money off other people or profit on eBay, I buy for the pure love of film and the look of the product.

I have paid high amounts for a few Steelbooks and then I've paid less for others. It's just the luck of the draw.

My main issue with Steelbooks is the amount of titles they now release, it's hard to keep up with them all. When I first got into them about 3-4 years ago I think they were few and far between. I remember having Wanted, Green Zone, Minority Report & Psycho over maybe a 6 month period. Now I'd need a loan for every 6 months worth.

Looks like my comment I posted earlier in this thread has been deleted or has magically gone missing without a reason. So I'll post it again.

It has been extremely entertaining reading the hot and flustered comments of people on here.

I for one cannot see the problem with this release, am very much looking forward to it and and have pre ordered myself a copy.

Hey guys,
I've moved a lot of posts that were belonging in 'The "OMG-the price is high on Ebay, etc!!!" thread'.

Please keep the release thread about the actual release and not turn it into an Ebay hunt. :naughty:

If you're post is deleted or moved, it probably means that a mod doesn't approve, so don't post it again

Hmm... I wasn't posting anything about eBay or the price of the steelbook. Just the general conversation over this new release.
However, I shall step aside to the higher reasoning of the mods.

Please delete my post again if it does not belong here.

Regardless as to whether or not your comment was deleted, perhaps you might like to consider your choice of words next time - no one should object to you having an opinion, but you could perhaps try and empathise with the opinion of others a little more ;)
