NEW UPDATE 8/13/2013:

We have a short update on the finish details for our 2 exclusive Star Trek Into Darkness steelbooks. Both the steelbook in the Villain Edition and the Hero Edition steelbook will have debossed title treatments and be matte finishes. We had some fantastic ideas for the ***8220;special packaging***8221; we promised for the Hero Edition, but unfortunately the time constraints of turning this around in just over a month before the release date meant that none of them were possible. The Entertainment Store exclusive sticker that has been on our previous releases will be on these releases too, and we can only apologise for being able to make the Hero Edition special rather than extra special.

All is not lost though ***8211; some of the special packaging we had planned for Star Trek Into Darkness will be present on our next release, which we will be announcing exclusively via HDN on Tuesday 20th August. You won***8217;t be disappointed, I promise!

The limited edition Steelbooks are limited to 4,000 copies each, and will be available to Pre-order from The Entertainment Store on Play.com from midday Friday July 19th 2013.

Since its arrival in March 2013 The Entertainment Store has been working closely with Paramount Home Entertainment and have already teamed up to bring us exclusive Blu Ray SKUs such as GI Joe and Hansel and Gretel but this latest batch of releases look to be the most interesting yet. The E-tailer distributes product directly from the Studio warehouses so the product is guaranteed as authentic and of the highest quality.

Feel a bit cheated now if I'm honest. Why promise something if you can't deliver it? It's fine saying sorry but a lot of peopke have preordered it now.

And I was fully expecting a Jack Reacher type full gloss finish for that price. Debossed and matt sounds like an old German budget title!

Gutted

Paramount do great matte finishes, so I am not at all concerned about this news. Hansel & Gretel was matte, but it was awesome. As for feeling cheated, why? You can still cancel the pre-order and you have lost nothing.

If they are continuing with Paramount titles, my guess for the new title is World War Z which would be great. Considering it has been announced in the Netherlands recently, it is probably a good bet. The other possibility is Pain & Gain but i'm hoping it's not that one.

Because they don't ship to Ireland (even though Northern Ireland is the same strip of land!) I'm committed to a GB. So I guess that decision is up to the host.

That wouldn't have been "special" for me, I hate slip covers on steelbooks, I don't see the point in buying a steelbook just to have it covered in a slip. Not hating on anyone who likes slips though, each to there own.

Well at least they've been straight up, when something special turns out to be average at best. Look on the bright side or should I say dull matte side, it could have been better and in ES defence they admit it. Personally though I feel most of us would have waited for that extra special treatment, look how long wicker man has taken. Too bad on this one lets look forward to the next. On the plus side this is still the nicest art out there.

Disappointing news all round. You'd have thought that the 'special stuff' would have been well in the works before announcing anything. You're only asking for trouble when you promise something and then fail to deliver.

Debossed title sounds good to me. This was really begging for gloss finishing but if Paramount use a thick matte like they usually do it will still look really nice.

I'm a massive fan of a matt steel book, and title debossing doesn't happen enough for me these days either. I am massively disappointed the 'special stuff' has been hot air. Would rather they didn't say anything in the first place, but at least they've told us as soon as they've known it wasn't happening. Some retailers just keep quiet and send any old tat.

UK alone has three different print runs, so if u assume the amazon one is also 4k like ES (which seems too low for amazon) then u got at least 12,000 Into Darkness steels just in the UK :movie:

and "Exclusive" art makes no difference to most potential buyers, if they can get another one almost as good for less money :movie:

That's very disingenuous. The price they pay for the steelbook may not have changed, but the price they would have had to pay for the "special packaging" HAS changed...........to zero.
