Apparently that is not a requirement for this steelbook.
The darth vader image used on the steelbook is a Official Theatrical Poster
It was even used on the outside of cinemas in USA on May 21st 1980

Both posters of Darth Vader are original official theatrical posters
The teaser image was used in Cinemas on release in May 1980

Not it is not. The teaser Vader image is different to the official theatrical Vader. The steelbook uses the teaser variant.

It's Disney right, that chose not to go with the poster art for this Empire steelbook?

Would it be possible to find out the reason why? There must be something that made them go with this and not stay uniform to the set.

It actually ruins it and doesn't make sense.

Is there an email address for a query like this where we might get an answer?

The teaser image is still a offical poster it was used inside UK/Ireland cinemas before and on release date

I went to the Ambassador Cinema in Dublin on release date in Rep of Ireland and the teaser poster was on view inside the cinema as well as the other version of Darth Vader poster
The outside of the cinema had the other poster same as UK

Fox/Lucasfilms Kastel edited poster only apeared inside the cinema a few days after release date and was quickly removed as per instructions given to cinemas
I went to see the film 3 times in same week in May 1980

So not an official theatrical poster and so shouldn’t be part of this series. They should have picked 1980 version in which he is not decapitated and is less disco.

Both are Offical Posters and both was used
You would have seen both these posters inside cinemas before and after release date in UK/Ireland

The teaser poster is a original official poster and was used before and after release date along with the other darth vader poster both was used.

the GWTW artwork isnt good enough for the front, but it was good enough for the back ...years ago

you can talk about it as much you want ....you can even write a doctoral thesis about it...

...but disney failed, that's a fact.
That was a Fox release not a disney release
Reminder that poster was withdrawn from cinemas for a reason back in May 1980 and was only used very breifly inside cinemas after release date

Disney temporarly used it for 40th Anniversary release on Disney + but again removed shorty after
The official Darth Vader Poster both teaser and Theatrical was before the Kastel Edited Image poster was used

So they used the “Coming to your galaxy this summer” poster after release. Seems a bit weird. Perhaps a few cinemas just left the old poster on the wall.
The darth vader poster in cinemas on and after release date did not have coming to your galaxy this summer it was just the image of darth vader
As in what you see on the steelbook
