Wow... Really? I feel completely opposite of you. You are totally entitled to your opinion, but I just don't quite understand it.

Not hard to understand. He says he hated Star Trek and it shows. The films bear no relation to the TV series I grew up with. I simply don't recognize the show on display here.. He totally and completely missed the point of the TV show. His took a lazy and tired idea to avoid the original show and as bad as the first one is the dire remake of The Wrath of Khan is a serious insult to the intelligence. The Kirk in these films is a borrish thug and as far removed from Shatner's Kirk as you can get. Also seriously missing is the dynamics caused by the age differences in the original cast. In trying to get away from the original show he simply created a show with no heart or soul and devoid of any passion. The set designs are dire and the less said about that Enterprise the better. My 8 year old nephew could do better. The whole enterprise (excuse the pun) has lazy written all over it. No creativity, no interesting ideas, just The emperors new clothes in my book....... Yes Star Trek Nemesis was bad but shoving the entire franchise down the toilet for these two films was not the answer......
