Thanks for the heads up. For weeks I was subscribed to the thread and in a way, I am really glad I missed the initial order for this.

Such a disappointment. I recall the close encounters steelbook going for £5.99 before it sold out. This is almost a carbon copy design.

This is the risk of buying a pre order that sells out before you get chance to see it. The worst of the new "wave"

There are a lot nicer 4000 print steelbooks still for sale, at a fraction of the price. I really stand by my opinion, that if this was a 4000 print run at a lower price, it would struggle to sell out. They would likely use a "sale" price to get them all gone.

I like the majority of the limited print runs that have come out, but the concern is now that Zavvi will keep on doing it, so the novelty will soon run out.

Yes. Two big disappointments in a week with The Aviator and now this.

Also, I'm not sure why these things keep coming back into stock for short periods after they have supposedly sold out?? Whats that about?

Surely there couldn't be that amount of cancellations? Everyone knows at this stage that 5 copies is the max.

Pan's Labyrinth sold out. I regretted it. It started going for crazy money online. It then came back into stock out of no where but at their 'outlet store' at an inflated price. Like a fool, I caved and ordered for it €25. Now they seem to have countless copies back on their original site this week that they can't flog for €12.

The more I think of all this stuff, the more the 'urge to kill' rises again!!

How would 2,000 print runs ever be a novelty? Lower print runs are always better. Its odd though that everyone assumes just because its a 2,000 print run and few dollars more that there will be no ugly releases. They are just like every other print run, some great releases, many average releases, and some terribly ugly releases.

right, and the price is higher not because the quality is better, but because they have to pay a higher price per steelbook themselves when ordering a lower print run from scanavo

It's not only because of the 2,000 print run, but mainly because of the price.
Look at the Ender's Game steelbook for £15.99.

That's an easy one. Just like the 4000 print runs did. They swamped us with way too many titles per month.

Its the same thing here, but its 2000 print runs, that are overpriced and a big gamble as to what actual finish you are going to get.

You stick to your 6 per month "2000" print run releases mate.

I will pick and choose DECENT designs. A nice, well made steelbook should be more of an asset, not just because its only a 2000.

i like the way everyone saying its awful, for me i quite like it's not a bad steel.
reason price is a bit more its only 2000 somewhere that cost has to be met.
anyway mines going on the shelf, finish is nice but to see it proper it needs to be out of cellophane and the right light then you will see what i'm on about.

basil

It sounds very much like you are against all print runs in general. If 4,000 print runs are a novelty, and now 2,000 print runs will be too. I am not sure what you are asking for? Sounds like you want no more 2,000 print runs unless they are guaranteed to be produced with superb quality. Why would you expect that from any company or studio? It will never happen. There will always be stinkers. We just happened to get a few back to back.

I am conscious not to get into a "heated debate" as comments will get deleted, which I find are constructive and warranted.

I do not mean to sound rude, but I have no clue where you are coming from with your comments.

You asked a question, I answered it. You don't agree, no problem. :dunno:

Not the best steel ever, but certainly not the worst. I quite like it overall... could have definitely used some embossing/debossing on that title though imo.

This whole argument is fundamentally flawed, when retailers such as zavvi continue to refuse to number their so called "limited" steels - be it 2,000 4,000 or 6,000.

Try taking one of your precious limited to x,xxx steelbooks to a real auction house without any proof: - certificates of authenticity, laser etching or at the very least a number on the j-card.

They will laugh in your face, because this whole limited to x,xxx subterfuge is plain old MARKETING HORSESHIT.

seriously, WAKE UP sukers :movie:

No way is that worth £14.99 let alone £17.99, absolute Piss Take IMHO.

I thought they said that you could polish a turd, apparently Zavvi can't. Such a waste for such a cool movie.

If someone brought a Stargate steelbook to an auction house then they deserve to get laughed in their face. Unless you are buying from Kimchi, arrow films, or a few others with high quality control, you need to expect that most steelbooks are just like most people. A few winners, and whole lot of losers. Regardless of the print run.

I do agree that on print runs of less than 4000 they should be numbered. I collect limited editions within the heavy metal genre and all those with a limited release like that come numbered.

^^ yeah i think so though they haven’t releasd anything decent in a while imo. My 1 and only blufans steel (Gi Joe Retaliation) has the actual individual number printed on the back of the slipbox.

(it was limited to 500 copies btw)

Hello my friend

Since you have this beautiful steelbook already, can you tell me whether it is really German sound please?
