Discuss the value of certain steels, releases, etc. What do you think is worth the most and why? Which ones do you see gaining value etc?

There is many reasons why we love and collect steelbooks, but for some value and collectibility come into play on how rare/scarce the movie is or the amount of demand there is for that title and that is what this thread is about.

So lets keep this thread for basically just random discussion on the value of Steels and predictions and what not.

Lets start by discussing what were the most valuable Steels and if they are still ... and which ones you see rising in value.

Not long ago, the most valuable steels were ...

Rambo (original amazon.de release white cover)
I Am Legend German
Iron Man FutureShop
I Am Legend FutureShop
Star Wars Clone Wars

Looking at those now ...
Rambo is still valuable, but not nearly as much as alot of peoples demand got fulfilled with this recent MM release (myself included) - I think only extreme collectors would pay more than $200 for this now ... Atleast, in the US economy, europe might fork it over or more with no probs :p

I am Legend german went to absolute **** once being valued at the $200 mark the rerelease has brought it down to sub $40 range.

Iron Man FutureShop, I think this will only rise and end up being one of if not THE most coveted. It looks awesome, and the movie was awesome ... If the german release could contest art wise with this one then it wouldnt be so sought after but this one stomps a mudhole in the German artwork.

I am Legend futureshop, this one only raised in value because the german one went to ****. Its the first FS release and had a low QTY run so it holds great value although I dont really see why as many peeps even didnt like this movie. Although, its one that I dont have and want but I actually loved the movie.

Clone Wars, simply cause its Star Wars :p and its now old, so if u want one you got to pay the premium. Although the demand doesnt seem to be near as great as it was there before the big "findings" of x number of titles that filled those eager mouths back then.

I agree with the assesment...I had all of those with the exception of the Rambo one...sold most of them last year for a good premium....:scat:

Whichever country lands the proper 'This is it' steelbook with the correct BD size case that will be the new crown jewel! BB messed up by releasing DVD size steel, Futureshop hasn't even mentioned what size it will be so now it's all up in the air. It looks like either Germany or Taiwan might have this baby in the right size.

Clone Wars will remain at the same value price simply because is Star Wars ;)

A bd sized willbe most sought after but its not gonna have a crazy demand cuz many others will actually settle for otehrs at a helluva discount. I think a couple countries will do bd sized, if only one did ... then that would help its value. Plus, not everyone likes MJ.

Take the above mentioned titles and they are mostly "A Man's Man" of a movie.

Rambo ... Kicks ass
Iron Man ... Kicks ass
Star Wars ... uhhh, its Star Wars
IAL ... so-so

There is no demand for wussie ****. ala Sex In The City.

Michael Jackson kicks ass, but not every man on the earth likes MJ

Who doesn't like the character Rambo? I'll tell you who, the same person who wants a Sex In The City Steel. :p

#1 golden rule IMO ...

If its a decent or good movie that is released in only one country or two (but have to have diff artwork) and the steel looks decent or awesome then its going to get really expensive over time so long as they dont reprint.

Same with a steel that does a bare minimum on the print run and never reprints and its not a crappy movie.

You forgot to add Twilight. There are so many hardcore fans chick as oppose to Star Wars hardcore fanboys.

The popularity of Twilight is nowhere near that of SW. Plus the steel of Twilight can still be found in stores in Spain, if you don't believe it all you have to do is ask Priss.

Yeh not that many gurl steelbook collectors either ... I know of like, 2.

There are way more Star Wars peeps who would buy a Star Wars steel than Twilight peeps who would buy a Twilight steel. And like Horhay said, I could get this steel anyday at cost or just a tad above.

Yep, Woman (33) steelbook collector here:)

You were one I knew of ... ;) OoOOooo now I know of 3 ... forgot Leeann, DB, Leeann and Snausages. Any others?

Point being there isn't a ton of crazed Twilight fans running around collecting SteelBooks. :p

Hi Wreck, LOL-aside from Twilight (I am not a huge fan at all, it was purchased for me, for the case, and for my partner, who likes the series, because it is Vampire-themed), I prefer action/adventure films in Steelbook. I hope Avatar (beautiful 3D rendering!), 2012, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Alien series, and others get the SB treatment. As I am female, I of course like some "chick flicks", due to being a romantic, but I have no interest in Sex in the City, etc:)

I have all of he Bonds, Harry Potter MM Set, most of the MM exclusives, T3,T2,Highlander, Knowing Aussie (I know it bombed, but I liked the existential/philosophical aspects of it), all of the Disney's (love the glossy covers, very sexy), etc. One day, when Collectorz becomes more robust, I'll post a list. With 1600 movies, including 460 BD's, 430+ HD DVD's and many many imports, I am one of those, making them jump through hoops to be "comprehensive":) I am girly, but beware my love of my love of steelbooks-they're so damn hot, I have carefully evaded the OCD syndrome:) Have a good one, everybody!

Do you guys think this is going to be valuable down the road? I mean, when the other format comes

Heh, well ... I dont think there will be another format after Blu-ray, if there is ... it wont be anywhere near successful as Blu-ray. Digital downloads are next and thats still quite the ways off.

But to answer your question, there will come a time when the value starts to diminish. If Canada re-releases any of the high $ ones now it will totally kill the "high value" of all steels. Sure some will still be valued high but the demand wont be as great when you can just wait or email and beg for re-releases :p

Excellent choices! I too actually liked Knowing a lot. I'm starting to learn I like a lot of sci-fi stuff.

Those are actually great choices! I haven't seen avatar but an eventual Steel would fly off the shelves!

Horhay-if you get a chance, see it on an IMAX 3D. The entire film is in 3D and very immersive. It's the best 3D Treatment I've seen, and the score is very powerful as well. Really beautiful film, if you're willing to give yourself to it-they've broken new ground in visual effects arena and 3D tech for sure. Avatar Steel is a must for me-the cover art should be beautiful, as the art is quite striking (providing they use the close up of the Na'vi face).

I'm going to see it for sure now in IMAX 3D, you're the 2nd person to basically say what you just said haha. I'm excited! Hope its in my city .... :ohno: otherwise I will check it out in Chicago around 1st of the year when I go. (I know they have it there since I saw it advertised there last month)
