Suggest you look at the film schedules, if it went in May then it would have been a poor move IMO.

Captain America Civil war (early May) and X-Men Apocalyse (Late May) both films would seriously hamper SS if it went in May.

Ideally then it'd come out first in late April but there's no way they could finish in time. I think they are risking superhero fatigue by releasing it so late.
