2K print runs would be the death of the collector IMO.

Because I guarantee probably about half the number of this Steelbook has been snapped up by scalpers to make double their money back whilst the true collector has to miss out if they are not fast enough to get their pre order in.

It's just the nature of the game and always will be.

Agree about the scalpers, although this was available for 23 hours, so anyone who really wanted it had time to order, but from Zavvi's point of view it does not matter who buys them as long as they get sold.

Would be nice if zavvi could do a max of 2 order for each account!

Im sure people have multiple accounts.

Available for 23 hours on a weekend. People do have lives (families/kids) other than sitting in front of a keyboard all weekend!

Why would you need to sit in front of your keyboard all weekend? You look, see it's live or will be at x time and you order. I was out all day yesterday, quick look last night and ordered, took about 5 mins from my weekend.

My point was, some people might be preoccupied with other stuff. Especially on a weekend when they are off. 23 hours isn't a long time in the grander scheme of things. I can see how people could miss out.

Is it just that zavvi are trying to give customers what they want that people hate? A 2k run doesnt guarantee it will sell out, so zavvi are doing titles and prices acceptable to their customers whether we like it or not. I hope it continues i like knowing that i actually have a collectable and not something that will be on sale a month later at half the price

I think some just can't give credit where it is due. For all the issues with Zavvi, they have got things right with the three titles they have announced in this fashion.

Rakuten chose to cease retail sales through Play.com when the government closed the LVCR tax loophole. The Hut did not.

Play did not go under if that's what you're implying.

Well no-one really knows the reasons behind that decision, it is all speculation.

Plays business model has completely changed. I gurantee they lost money on those cheap titles. It happens all over the world. They use media as loss leaders. It looks to me that zavvi is actually looking at profiting from steels instead of selling at a loss. The small print runs brings more business to their site. Simple economics. The tax loophole is a good way for people who are arguing that is the reason play went out of business is just more than a bullet point. Its not the only reason. You don't see anyone else selling steelbooks this cheap other than the cheap crap in the U.S.

Everyone wants a premium product at firesale prices on this board. Not gonna happen.

Look at kimchi and blufans. They don't have a problem selling $50-$60 steelbooks. If you want $15 steels that play sold then keep dreaming.

im sure they would prefer to sell at 10.99 then 4.99. or even 11.99,this 2k stuff i disagree with, every now and again fine, whatever. i'll bite. but 17 quid and a mad rush every single time? no thanks, you might be in this for lower print runs, and there value but im not,i just want a good product, no matter how many are made i couldnt care less.

If you compare Zavvi to Play.com, it gives you the impression that they are making huge profits. If you compare them to almost any other retailer in the World, they offer the best quality/value balance. Sure other retailers have their moments, but most either release dross or if they release decent stuff, it is massively overpriced.

I gurantee they lost money on those cheap titles.

There is no way play.com were selling thousands of blu-rays at start price at a loss.

Often times you can buy Alien 1-4 or Die Hard 1-4 boxset for £10. That's £2.50 a disc, and that's not including the amaray and boxset that those come in. So Zavvi's charging at least £12.50 more than the disc must be worth at the present time.

White House Down steelbook is now £15.27 on Amazon... That's 27p more than the amaray. It's 28p more than what Zavvi charge for an old film. Zavvi could easily lower the prices from £15 for old films.

Amazon sells ALOT of stuff at a loss. They can because they make up for it on everything else. You cant compare zavvi to amazon. Like I said look at play. Heck look at HMV too. Your just digging a deeper hole if you think they can afford to sell all these steels at 10. Laughable at best.

If you want 10 pound steels from zavvi from the day 1 then you can pretty much gurantee they will either go out of business, or the quality of the steel and quality control is going to get much worse. Nobody wins on cheap steels. You think you are winning, but then they cease operations. I rather have a premium product that is sustainable for all parties involved in the sales channel from the studio all the way to the seller.

mate the reason hmv lose money is because they sell at stupid prices. if you think zavvi can't sell at 10 then that's laughable mate.
