@Flloydo

So, honestly, does this look worse than what you received?

Suppose it looks a little darker in the shrink wrap, in the light mine looks a bit brighter (it's night time here). But your pic isn't that bad though. Still looks decent in that pic

I'll take a photo of mine tomorrow in the day for you where you will see the gloss and colour better

Oh and the PQ seemed fine for me. But then I haven't seen the remastered version

Photo showing sealed have you not unsealed as lot of steelbooks you need to remove the shrink wrapping to see then finish more accurately

No it hasn't been unsealed but the shrink wrap on this one is quite tight, not loose at all.
You can't see it in this scanned image but I can easily see the grain of the steel all through the cover from top to bottom.

I just watched the video for the Target exclusive of "The Mummy" unboxing.
Now that is glossy!

Okay so I have had 2 of the same steels before where I've received something damaged and ordered another before sending the other back (even a 3rd in some cases) and colouring can change.
I had quite a few with tiny change in colour, one slightly darker or brighter (my eyes always pick all this up.... Like a f*cking burden) but I've had 1 or 2 before where I must of got the one before the ink run out. Seriously noticeable changes. Not saying it's happened to you but it's a possibility (can always arrange and send back for a replacement if your not happy i suppose)

This isn't proper glossy glossy but it's glossier than some of the steels mentioned in the thread earlier

I didn't even know there was a remastered version.
I love this movie but I admit I have never watched it on blu-ray and I have an amaray copy.

I bought this because I liked the images of the steelbook.

And I do realize that we all see different things when it comes to picture quality, in movies, on blu-ray and even on the steelbook covers. And 4K? I doubt I would ever see the difference.

I never judge a steelbook finish when still sealed as it can be very misleading and hide lot of detail

I got have got lot of steelbooks that looked average until I took the shrink wrapping off can be quite a lot of difference sometimes

The only way to view a steelbook in terms of it's finish is unsealed

Oh maybe there isn't, I just remember someone asking if the disc was remastered ages ago. Think i got that wrong but I don't have a issue with the disc
Better than my DVD lol

I'd also never seen it on blu ray until the other day

 @ "Like a f*cking burden"

Thank you for your replies and your insight. I can live with it. I still like the images.
I'm in Canada so shipping it back to Zavvi would cost me $10.27 Canadian.

And I have a hard time receiving all of my orders from Zavvi as it is right now.
So many have not reached me. They keep having to send me replacements. I really should be thrilled that this arrived at all. I do like it, but I was curious if anybody was seeing their copy the way I see mine.

Again, many thanks.

Yes I remember somebody asking if the disc being released with this steelbook was remastered and the answer being no.

I wasn't doubting you on there being a remastered version, I have no idea if there is. I've never looked into it.
When I eventually watch the blu-ray I'm sure I won't see a problem with the quality of the picture.

happy days. :) on a sad and miserable day for news in general, for some happier vibes, it's Coen's Day in my household, as this has arrived on the same day as O Brother Where Art Thou? that is a better steel, but to join the conversation above, having given both a test, this has for me the slightly better picture quality (not to say O Brother's is poor), and is stacked with extras.

i know why people are struggling with its gloss-ness. it is shiny, but the image has a deliberate, almost hazy patina on it, so it's like having a gloss effect on an image that doesn't 100% suit gloss. to be honest, i thought it was fairly gloss before i read the above, and now i have no idea what i think. it's certainly not matt, though. ;)

few more shots of the steelbook:

and i did take a shot of the j-card, but screwed it up royally. soz. for those of you who can be bothered to squint, check beneath the spoiler - edit: tried again, still not great, but better/replaced -

worth a shot? if like me you didn't have this on blu ray, absolutely. maybe one day we'll get a shiny, super-glossy premium, but this will certainly do for now. until then keep on shining...

I must say this way better than what I was expecting, ( look at what they came up with species or tremors), but they could have done so much more

Aah I see now, this is more like polished metal rather than proper thick paint layer job. Hmm....

Yes exactly! You managed to describe exactly what I was trying to say about it.

The one thing that makes this different though is that under a light, the city lights seem to light up, or glow, or twinkle (something like that) which is pretty cool. I definitely like that about it.

It's definitely different in hand than any of the pictures make it look but the video shows it better.

I definitely like it now. It's just that when you first receive it, it doesn't look the way you expect it to look.

So now having said all of that, it actually looks better than how the pictures make it look.
