Let us know because there's something bad here... how much was it declared on the custom form???

Ok so this is what i've learned on my case:

1st. The limit to import on DVDs/Blu-Rays in Portugal is 22 eur without having to pay customs charges.

2nd. The declared value on the package was around 30€ (including shipping) and apparently that's the amount they are considering for the process

3rd. DHL charged me 83€ to handle the hole process of dispatching the item from custom services and dealing with the paperwork. This is 50.92eur, for DHL for dispatching the item (basically honorary fees) plus 14.39eur of VAT plus 17.04eur of bureaucratic expenses.

4th. If i wanted to deal with customs myself, it was an option but DHL would still charge me 39.71eur to transfer the package and the original pappers to customs personnel. And i would still have to pay for VAT.

This was all communicated to me via phone and e-mail by the guy who was handling my process.

I called the help-line and i asked if this was standard procedure and if it was normal to charge me almost 3 times the value of the package, the girl said she didn't know the exact amounts on my case but it was normal that they would charge me, for example, the 39.71eur to transfer the package to customs personnel. Although one weird thing she said was that my package value was stated as 2.000 something Dollars but i think she was reading it wrong since it was probably declared in Yens and the value in Yens would be something along those numbers....

Searching around in forums and stuff i found people who had the exact same problem. And apparently DHL holds your package with the original documents (which by the way is a document with your name on it and meant to be yours) and they make you pay those 39.71 eur basically so they can give a document, that your's to begin with, and release the package... feels like im paying the item all over again!

So finally i told DHL i wouldnt pay those fees and now they will ask amazon.jp if they will pay them. If they dont, which im sure they wont, DHL should send the package back to amazon.jp.

What can i say... Apparently this is normal procedure of Couriers which make them ther worst kind of thieves.

On the bright side, i've learned my lesson and i will never use a courier company ever again!

------------
Wow Srry for the long post guys, just wanted to clarify what went down and to warn you about these kind of companys. Apparently FedEx, USPS, and most of them out there all do the same, so beware!

You just ordering a few from amazon.co.jp? You'll probably escape without much trouble. If anything, Fed Ex likes to charge you a processing fee...let's say $20 or so. The actual duty paid to the USA is something like $5... :hilarious:

BUT, if you're ordering maybe 3-4 steelbooks (less than 10) you probably won't get hit at all.

I hope you're right. I ordered 3 today from amazon.co.jp. Hopefully no custom charges will come.
I ordered, Batman: DK, Begins, and Narnia all JPN Steels. :ordered:
Oh, I am in USA by the way.

Awesome sauce! My Batman: Dark Knight Japan, Batman: Begins Japan, and Chronicles of Narnia Japan have finally been marked as shipped :) Refreshed page so many times, lol. Getting them Wednesday which is super because that's when I know I'll be home xD
It's going to be torture keeping these sealed until Mid-June as that is when I can afford second copies of the 3.

You guys are so lucky in the US, no custom charges unlike us here in the UK

Yup. I am kind of upset, it said it would be delivered Wednesday, and I wasn't home today it came today.. Would've had it already but I gotta wait till tomorrow :( Still getting it anyway :) The Dark Knight, Begins, and Narnia.

what are amazon's stance on returns if damaged?? and how's their packaging?

The packaging is worst than play.com and about returning damage items and thats a good question. Im very lucky at the moment :) my first order is the packaging is not that good and im glad i didnt get any damage steelbook. Maybe the reason i didnt get any damage was i received my steelbook for 1 day shipping ( japan to UK ). So no plan to order my 2nd batch yet maybe in the future :)

It's hard to get this if the the third installment of the trilogy may not necessarily follow this style for the Japanese import. I would hate to see if the Japanese The Dark Knight Rises comes out totally different after buying the first two. I dunno - I guess I'm that picky.

EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS!!! This is the reason Im still on the fence about this. If the third one doesn't get a matching cover and steelbook like these two albeit nice but will be an incomplete set at that point. Now if we don't buy these two and they sell out (which they will, lol) and third does come out with this artwork then we will be screwed that way too!

Im thinking I should just buy BB/TDK JP and keep them sealed just incase a third does follow with matching artwork. Add on Matrix and Inception JP I guess too while Im at it. Decsions, decision, ... :roll eyes:

I personally do believe that they will be release Dark Knight Rises in the same kind on Steelbook. The only reason that is stopping me from buying these is that Batman Begins doesn't have Finnish subtitles. I don't always require them, but for the movies like these, which I am going to watch over and over again, I do require them.

But I think I am going to wait for the trilogy Steelbook containing the whole set. That is why I am selling my Batman Begins & The Dark Knight-double Steelbook (GER). It would annoy me if I have the first 2 in one Steelbook but the 3rd movie in a separate case. I guess I'm that picky too. :p
