A gravity fed spray gun

Then I used some accelerator and clear coat which I use when I spray cars also added is a slight but if thinners I think it's 2 to 1

The steels are wiped over with cleaners I get rid of grime and oil that fingers can lea e and any oils

Then I spray it in a booth which is heated and has ventilation AND IS HEATED KNOWN AS AN OVEN
Basically it what I use to spray car bits

Then spray and leave them to harden at least a day and this will be hard enough to polish to

See the last picture of I Robot? That wavy, underwater area where the light hits? That's what I'm talking about. Unless someone can show that that also occurs on official glossed steels?

That happens due to the spray can coat. The actual orange peel effect is way worse and looks really bad. I had a little bit on Iron Man 3 but it's Nothing Major for me.

Yeah I had that on my Little Mermaid steel. It's just where it's uneven coat, in my case I think the can dripped a couple of blobs onto the steel and I didn't notice.

I think there was already a small hint of orange wave like effect in I,Robot on the back. Maybe it looks a bit more pronounced after glossing. Personally I am not too concerned as it is not noticeable unless you specifically look for it. :)

Double glossed Predator II and Dredd. Man Predator II loows awesome. Pics tonight.

P.S: Wife and son are out of country since Friday. That's why I am in full swing.:hilarious::naughty:

See I'm referring to the stuff in your second pic around what you describe as the orange peel effect. To me the underwater/wavy stuff looks more like an orange peel. Does what I'm referring to always happen with spray can coats?

It definitely looks better than matte, wavy or not.

This is what I use: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001W03PRM/?tag=hidefnin-21

I bought this product to provide a protective coat over a turntable I had painted using Rustoleum Painters Touch 'Ivory Bisque'. In fact, after doing some research Rustoleum had recommended it to me via email. However, much to my dismay after first application it tinged my off-white turntable with bright and visible yellow/green cast.

Halfords enamel clear gloss eventually worked for me, but do test the product first if possible and try and leave the undercoat to cure for as long as possible before applying

Halfords enamel clear gloss - This is what I am going to try though it is 100 ml less in quantity and the same price as Amazon.

Regarding smell, I got rid off it by leaving the Steels open for 36 hours.

Aformentioned several times, we can't compare our workmanship with howiesteed's as he employs a technique similar to painting cars. :)

So do you guys spray the entire steelbook including the spine or do you take off the metal front and back and just spray those?

That's correct. I don't mess around with the inside and the borders as it requires more effort and requires a spray gun for proper coating. I just lay the Steelbook flat and spray left to right including the spine.

I do know how to fit custom inside artwork but without messing around with the spine.

So I bought this Product from Rust-oleum and the results aren't great.

This finish is due to the spray nozzle not being as an even coat. It sprays and goes all over the place instead of a nice even line:( Definitely not recommended for Glossing. Now I'll have to go and buy this one below. Out of the 3 products I've used, this has been the best. Leaves a nice clean finish without any speckles.

Thanks for that. At least we know that certain sprays are better than others. That may be why I'm having such trouble. Would you recommend I order that stuff, or keep practicing with what I've been using?

Which spray are you using? Rust-oleum? I would say get the Dupli color like the one above and practice with that. There's a big difference between both products, spray wise. If you keep using what you have now, you'll have that technique down to a T. But then you'll have to learn a different technique with a different product. Rust-oleum sprays too much and too sloppy the other is much better.
