So, we have the "Fake" and "Steelbook Price Drop" thread, but we don't yet have the thread where you post listings with "crazy" prices for Steelbooks. If you see any, post them here and have fun debating. As per forum rules, please remain respectful with each other-one person's "high price", could be another's "deal of a lifetime" score. Enjoy! :scat:

Please keep discussion to Ebay and other retailers, not private sellers.

I think this thread serves a useful purpose for new members to realize the following points.

1) There is a market value for every steelbook.
2) Prices posted and prices paid are truly subjective.
3) Members may find that ebay sellers might openly discuss the reasons why they listed an item at a higher price. If it is a SAFE and RESPECTFUL environment, an open discussion could occur - therefore impacting prices later on. Higher or lower, it doesn't really matter.
4) There will never be a problem if new members actually realize that SOMEONE always got in before they did. So an item might be rare. An item might be hard to find.
5) Maybe, one day, if you do get in early on a rare steelbook, MORE THAN LIKELY DUE TO INFORMATION you learned HERE from WRECK, or his sources, OR due to the efforts of a MEMBER here, you might find yourself in a position to get more than one copy for a trade, or a sale, or a way to finance this hobby we all seem to like so much.

Just my point of view, might be wrong, might be right....

And I'm not looking to argue.

I hope this makes sense.

I think a steelbook is only worth as much as you are prepared to pay for it imo. Some prices are ridiculous, some prices are ready to rip you off, but that doesn't mean you have to buy them at that price. Ebay can be an evil place. There are geniuine collectors like you and me, and there are people who buy them to make (in a few cases) a lot of profit, knowing the market is there.

Yes rarity pushes the prices up but that doesn't mean you have to pay those inflated prices. There are other ways to obtain these 'rare' editions, such as trading etc. A hobby like this is supposed to be fun, that's what we do it for, right?

nothing is subjective about prices , goods or ebay Folks

It's all about profit . Normal profit is the opportunity cost of the a seller. Now for Greedy or unethical sellers there exist Excess profit, also known as super-normal profit, is profit above normal profit and is usually evidence that the seller has some type of market power.

A good example is gas no matter how much it is people will still buy it.

Gladiator Metal Slipcase sold for under $300 EEK!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...K:MEWAX:IT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_500wt_1413

Insane prices some of these steel's are commanding.

Fair! :) (certainly not a hook-up but I'd say market value) - End of the year .... a sealed one .... anyone guess? $400?

ps. after reading some above comments ; here's my take ... If someone wants to list a rare item for $1000 when we all know its worth say only $3-500. Then it's comical at best ... however you cant hate on a person "testing the waters" if someone wants to be crazy enough to spend that and it works then props to the seller. I think it only becomes annoying when we have to see that rare item at the same price for monthsssss on end. If its not selling for that crazy high price then start ticking the price down ... we, as collectors DO WANT IT ... but we gotta feed the kids too! :p

I didn't think it was going to end that high, but I'm not really surprised either. Mint/Sealed ones are tough to come by. There are quite a few of these out there that have dents and most have some type of scratches on them. Some stores in Australia/New Zealand sold them unwrapped. I'd bet every single one of them that was sold unwrapped got at least scratched.

This will definitely start shifting the market upwards. I think you'll start seeing some with scratches and dents inching their way upwards in price as well.

Plus, these Gladiator metal slipcases are a thing of beauty. Everyone should have this one in their collection. Also, the good thing about the ones that have small dents or scratches is that this metal slipcase hides them very well. You have to take some great pictures to really show the flaws on them.

Hard to confirm as we cannot see a real photo of the front so it can still be the Fnac exclusive.
What makes the difference is the booklet included for FNAC exclusive, but it is true that he doesn't mention it either on the description...
