So, we have the "Fake" and "Steelbook Price Drop" thread, but we don't yet have the thread where you post listings with "crazy" prices for Steelbooks. If you see any, post them here and have fun debating. As per forum rules, please remain respectful with each other-one person's "high price", could be another's "deal of a lifetime" score. Enjoy! :scat:

Please keep discussion to Ebay and other retailers, not private sellers.

There were never any empty disney steelbooks. Just the Viva's.. sorry if i'm mistaken. The steebooks, (monsters, wall e, etc..) are exactly the same in US and Canada.

When I say "steels", I mean SB's, IP's, MB's. the fact that there are small differences does not matter to me. When opened, yes, they are exactly the same. But we both know that the vast majority of sales on EBay are for sealed copies. When sealed, the FS version and the US version are distinctly different. They even have a different feel to them when you hold them. Hold an FS version that is packed with 4-5 disks in one hand. On the other, hold a US empty case version. I'm sure you'll know exactly what I mean. Next time Disney releases steels, go take a physical count on eBay of how many of each are up for auction. I can tell you that the US version usually out numbers the FS version by a factor of 20-30 to 1. For The Lion King, I believed I counted 35 US versions to 1 FS version, just ridiculous. So I ask you, what do you think is more collectible? Which one will hold, or increase its value in the future?

Are they worldwide postage or just UK? I've seen some go for just over £45 but they seem to UK only.

Cant believe someone would ask this much EEK!EEK!EEK! for Evil Dead FS HERE

I don't think anyone's disputing the empty box versions vs the FS version that has all the discs.. But why are Ratatoullie, wall-e, bugs life, the first 3 POTC considered better? They are the same after all. (aside from a few stickers) My BB POTC trilogy even has the bonus discs that came with them.

Stickers have been overrated for a while. They serve no purpose other than to elevate one over the other. There is no difference as you mentioned and auctions lately reflect that value is not determined by the availability or lack of in this case. The truth is that all were excellent releases and makes no difference which one you got as they were the same items. Different marketing strategies at play in different countries. Whichever way one looks at it both versions win. Some of the empty BB cases command a pretty penny. Add the costs to acquire the discs and you end up in the same ballpark value.

The last empty BB beauty and the beast case sold for about $40 on auction. The diamond edition is scarce and hitting $20+ consistently new. If you want the 3D version, you are looking at $30+. At the end of the day, a fair value for the FS version is $70 +/-. Could be higher but $70 is fair. To complete the BB case you are going to end up paying a similar value. One is complete from the beginning while the other takes 2 purchases to complete but end result is almost the same.

Hmmm, I coulda swore that I specifically said the "US empty cases". Why are these other titles brought up? Are those titles you listed empty cases too?

The empty cases are valuable in their own way. You can't seriously compare the two. But for argument sake let's do. As in my last statement, take the value of any sealed FS version and deduct the value of a new amaray to put in the empty case and alas the value of the empty viva / ironpack. Its all a matter of preference. I don't see why one is more collectable than the other. They are the same item. One is much more readily available as it is purchased separately

When I collected Disney steels I only wanted the sealed version with the discs inside. I prefer the discs inside as it completes the steel as opposed to an empty case. Because I want the steel sealed it doesn't seem as satisfying as having an empty case sealed.

With the empty BB cases I would open them and then stick my cheap aamray inside. Opening a sealed disney steel will lose its value so its cheaper to open the empty cases.

So its more of having the steel as a 'whole' rather than an empty case for your sealed collection.

My answer was in response to which one holds more value. My answer to this is that they both increase in value relative to initial cost. In many ways the empty case rises more in value. Initial cost of an empty BB case is $7.50. FS version was let's say $35 but could have been lower. Now complete FS version is worth at least twice its original cost. Empty BB case is 4-5 times more valuable.

I know I'm in the minority since I open steels. But like you and I both said, its a matter of preference. Some prefer sealed complete copies while I like the fact that I can customize my empty case with the discs I need. I stuck a 3D version in mine that I already had so quite happy.

Opened they both lose value like any other
