UMADBRO ? JOKE LOL

Nope, just encouraging the studios to keep on releasing the so called 'exclusives'. If I was mad I would be at 250 single title steelbooks, but I've already accepted this is always going to happen so I've partially ducked out of this hobby and got rid of a big chunk of my collection. If they re-release the same John Rambo, Iron Man FS I be down to ZERO lol

I could imagine that it will have no English on the disc and I`m very sure that they will only have the international version of the film on the disc and not the uncut. So the UK Version will remain the superior product.

Yep you say that but when your in this hobby a little longer you will understand why it's generally not a good idea to release an identicle steel - it destroys the art and culture of collecting, and this goes for any collectible.

It's not a good idea for the collector's. One way or another, this steel will sell, if ya like it or not.

Even though your a collector, that doesn't automatically mean you have to go all OCD and get every release.

There are alot of collector's who aren't looking day in day out for the next release, now thanks to amazon.de more people will get to enjoy this and for which, i thank you AMAZON.DE :scat:

No one would have a problem if the artwork was different, but this release just ***** all over the people who paid a premium to get a Steelbook they thought was becoming rare. Rarity is a part of collecting which needs to be kept in my opinion. Play.com have done a good job so far at releasing great films and in limited numbers so I hope this is just a one off and not a trend. The fact that every release isn't available in huge numbers and cheaply makes it a much more enjoyable hobby. How fun would it be without group buys, trading and the hype around a new release?

I have a feeling both this and Drive will be the same as U.K. Why you ask? Greedy studios.

They are going to destroy the steelbook market. Might as well go start collecting UV codes.

I don't think this would be the case. If anything, they are more likely to sell more copies if the artwork is different, as there is a huge collectors market. So using the same artwork doesn't really make them greedy, just lazy imho :)

No. They see how the U.K. version spiked in price and how fast it went OOS. They are doing it with alot of GERMAN titles now. This market is "cooked".

It's a definite concern. People will lose interest in paying extra for something that will continuosly get re-printed/re-released. At least for some, part of the allure of the Steelbook is the "rareness" of the item. Obviously that's not true for everyone. But it's definitely true for some. And this kind of thing helps chase those people off, limiting the market for such items.

The problem is that there's no one company doing this. With multiple companies across multiple countries, there's many players with many interests at heart. It's somewhat akin to a prisoner's dilemma. As a collective, it's in the interest of all companies to limit releases and have exclusives. You bring in more collectors and grow the overall hobby. Individually, it's better for companies to re-print popular Steelbooks because it's a guaranteed sale. Companies exist to make money, not grow a hobby. And the idea of growing a hobby only works if everyone is on board. Individually, the optimal decision for each company is not to go along, as it makes more money that way. Even though it would be better off overall if all the companies cooperated. Such is life...

The market that this hurts the most is the 3rd party sales. The company doesn't make any more money from a low print run (or "rare") SB. Its the 3rd party sellers that benefit from that scarcity vs demand. And frankly, the big companies couldn't give a rat's ass about the after market, so as long as their releases keep selling, they'll keep putting them, and won't care how it affects our hobby. Nor, in the purest form of capitalism, should they...

All that being said, if you're going to go to all the trouble of re-releasing a title, don't make it inferior. Especially when the original sold very well. That's just bad business sense.

Even if this has the same artwork as Play, I can't see this getting the same treatment in terms of embossing/debossing.

I love this cover and have one coming in, for which I can't wait. It would be nice if they released these steelbooks with different covers in each country. It would make them more collectable then.

Will this have English subtitles? It only has German subtitles listed in the product details on Amazon.

Too soon to tell. Amazon.de usually only lists a few supported subtitles. I am pretty sure it'll have english subs as well, since most german releases have those.
For example the Snow White SB contains 10 diff. subtitles (including english), but amazon.de only mentions 4.
