Official word from ES:

We’re certainly planning to continue doing all future seasons of The Walking Dead in steelbook with matching artwork – it looks likely season 4 will be out in September 2014 as it follows the same pattern as Game of Thrones (i.e. the new season hits DVD and Blu-Ray just before the new season starts).

We’ve been told that the steelbooks will feature in the US Walking Dead magazine, so likely to be quite a bit of international interest for these.

The Entertainment Store is pleased to announce our latest exclusive steelbook releases: Seasons 1, 2 and 3 of The Walking Dead, AMC’s Emmy Award winning TV series.

Each season features world exclusive artwork by Mark Simpson AKA Jock, who is responsible for some of best regarded comics and art of this generation, having worked on 2000AD, The Losers and Hellblazer amongst others as well as producing artwork for many major film studios, including the artwork for HDN Steelbook of the Year 2012 winner The Raid.

The Walking Dead: Season 1 (Entertainment Store Exclusive Blu-Ray Steelbook):

- 2 Blu-Rays discs
- Debossed Title Treatment
- G2 Standard Steelbook case
- Limited to 4,000 copies worldwide
- Finish TBC

The Walking Dead: Season 2 (Entertainment Store Exclusive Blu-Ray Steelbook):

- 3 Blu-Rays discs
- Debossed Title Treatment
- G2 Standard Steelbook case
- Limited to 4,000 copies worldwide
- Finish TBC

The Walking Dead: Season 3 (Entertainment Store Exclusive Blu-Ray Steelbook):

- 5 Blu-Rays discs
- Debossed Title Treatment
- G2 Jumbo Steelbook case
- Limited to 4,000 copies worldwide
- Finish TBC

NB: Due to the number of discs needed for all episodes and extras, Season 3 has to be in a Jumbo format case.

All 3 Seasons are sold individually, and will be on sale exclusively through The Entertainment Store on Rakuten Play.com at midday BST on Friday 11th October 2013 when the release date and pricing will be revealed.

In the meantime, our full range of steelbooks is available here: http://www.play.com/stores/EntertainmentStore/Steelbooks

The Entertainment Store has been trading on Marketplaces since 2013 and is proud to retail only authentic and high quality Entertainment goods, delivered to customers direct from the Studio and Publishers.

I always think glossy is the way to go but would it suit this? I'm not so sure. But if not glossy what? Crackle Lacquer?

A nice matte finish (and by nice I dont mean the cheap grainy feeling I mean the silky feeling one) with spot gloss on the main character

EDIT: Like Rambo ;)

Never got round to watching or getting this series... looks like i suddenly have a very good reason to get into it! and if i dont like it, well at least it will look pretty on the shelf :)
love that artwork of all 3, nice style, bit different from standard movie poster picture on so many steelbooks.
great work by ES and thanks too all at HDN too. may well have missed this if not part of this great community.

Wouldn't mind that at all as long as it's quality like you say. Good idea on the spot gloss. Think that would look great along with the debossed title as well

Hows about a poll for this? Need a list of finish options to put up. Ideas?

Aww yeah! These Walking Dead steels look great. I'm a fan of Jock's artwork so that's a big plus. The only thing that sucks about this is I'm going to have to get these some way or another and I don't know if I can afford it.

Damn you Entertainment Store!!! :p

Artwork on all 3 are quality. I really hope these are not out this year. My wallet can't handle it

Kind of glad that I don't follow this series. If this was Breaking Bad then I'd be broke. :p

Awesome Steelbooks for people who watches this series though.

Where can we see the cover art for the other seasons?

I may blind buy this one... Or perhaps check out the first episode before I jump on it. The artwork is badass... And even though I didn't like the green tint at first, it grew on me.

Ok, I'm against releasing TV series as SteelBooks, unless they're:

A) Cheap
B) Intended to be part of a complete run, and not a one-off

As we've learned from past releases, these tend to be extremely expensive SteelBooks. Dr Who Series 5 was outrageously expensive when first released, as are the German Star Trek: TNG sets. Firefly was perhaps the exception, at a nice budget price, but that was just 14 episodes and done. With The Walking Dead, there will always be that nagging feeling of "Will they / won't they release other seasons as a SteelBook?"

Obviously they do plan on releasing all seasons in SteelBook form (based on the info in the initial post), but what of the cost? Season 1 may be relatively cheap (I'm guessing £25), but what of the other seasons which have more discs? My guess is £35 (Season 2) & £40 (Season 3)!

The one thing that annoys me most is that Season 3 will be a Jumbo SteelBook - Either make them all Jumbo SteelBooks, or find a way to make them all standard G2 SteelBooks (such as splitting Season 3 so that the extras are in a separate fourth SteelBook sold alongside the Season 3 SteelBook)

Also, if ES announce this as a 2013 release, then they can seriously go and do one!

Be interesting to see the price points on these. I hate to be negative but with this being an ES release I can see these being quite pricey which will price me out of these, especially when you can pick up the regular amarays relatively cheap now.

However, it's great news for HDN to break the news on these
