AMC Upcoming Original Series: The Walking Dead

AMC Upcoming Original Series: The Walking Dead

AMC has greenlit The Walking Dead as a six-episode series based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The Walking Dead tells the story of life following a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home. Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually, Teachers, Strike Back) will portray the lead role of Rick Grimes while actor Jon Bernthal (The Pacific, The Ghost Writer) will portray the character Shane, who worked with Rick in the police department before the zombie disaster. Other cast includes Laurie Holden (The Shield), who plays Andrea, one of two sisters who join the survivors of the zombie plague, Steven Yeun as Glenn, an expert scavenger and Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break), who plays Rick's wife Lori.

The Walking Dead begins production in June in Atlanta with six, one-hour episodes for season one. The series is set to premiere in October 2010 during AMC Fearfest, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films. AMC announced development of The Walking Dead in August 2009 and announced the pilot in January of this year.

About the Producers
Robert Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. David Alpert from Circle of Confusion serves as Executive Producer. Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter, The Shield, Dark Angel) will also serve as Executive Producer, and Jack LoGiudice (Sons of Anarchy, Resurrection Blvd) will serve as Co-Executive Producer.

"AMC strives to make original shows that play like movies and The Walking Dead is a perfect complement to the network’s celebrated movie franchise, Fearfest, which has always been an important destination for our audience," said Charlie Collier, AMC President. "With its depth of story and the remarkable talent attached, The Walking Dead gives us an opportunity to raise the bar significantly within this popular genre, and continue our commitment to being the home of premium programming on basic cable."

"The Walking Dead is that rare piece of material that plays on many levels," says Joel Stillerman, Senior Vice President of Programming, Production and Digital Content. "Kirkman's series brilliantly captures the social commentary and ongoing human drama of the zombie apocalypse; and let's us kick a little zombie you-know-what from time to time."

my biggest issue is that nothing happened to him at the end, there was no real resolution, because of course he is going to come back. Also when he started shooting them what the hell not one of the 20 people could shoot back, really. Really!!!

Oh and why the hell would Rick let those people into the prison all the men are dead just infirm and old now, that is going to be a huge task of keeping everyone supplied. Loose Andrea get Tyrese and infirm, idk

The only positive thing is that the show is now taking a completely different path from the comics, which could work out well and keeps it fresh. Maybe if they inject some comic characters but introduce a new female character that would be cool.

Oh adn did anyone catch TTD with that caller. They looked so creeped out like a real surreal moment. But some guy on FB is claiming to be him, not sure if this is a publicity stunt now
That call was classic. Everyone was like wtf.And i wouldn't be against them finding and taking in a van full of hot chicks next season

So I guess we will be seeing more of the govenor next season

http://news.yahoo.com/walking-dead-four-actors-promoted-series-regulars-season-015818478.html

I just hope it doesn't turn into a Wile E Coyote situation of failed attempts against the Prison.

Good news about Tyrese though that was likely expected.

To tell the truth as I was thinking about it they should give that woman from Woodbury who survived the govenors onslaught more airtime, she was attractive enough ;)

She should have went down with the rest of the cowards.Plus i don't want anyone taking air time away from Maggie. If she could were that white suit she wore on The Talking Dead i would watch this show 24 hours a day.

Just found this thread . I have become a little less enthralled with The Walking Dead.

First series WOWW not a wrong word EEK!.

second series it went WRONG Andrea court in the winnebago toilet a walker wanting a quick snack the horde in the background . The grunting and squcking before she dispached it thay ARE DEAD NOT DEAF .

Third series I am part way through on Channel 5 U.K Merle rips Daryl's shirt Tattoo on his back as you view it Right side. He walks away Left side .

Watching it now more as a soap opera rather than Survival Horror :emb:.

I hope series 4 gets back to the grit and erie desolation as it was in the first series :D.

Shane WAS interesting at first the Envy you could see towards Ricks relationship with Lori. Then living with the guilt of what he had done turning him into something at the start he would have seen as despicable. The whole I am a better Husband and dad than you .

IF he was that in love with Lori why start the relationship with Andrea WHO gets on my nerves anyway. It was however an interesting powerplay for survival between Rick and Shane.

I think the caricature that has come on the most is Carol how she allowed her husband to treat her and Sophia is very true in some relationships and she is better now than the life she was confined by.

My personal fave is a tie between Dale who was the voice of calm and reason and the other end is Daral. The way he has transformed into a believable standing in as potential leader a nice touch.

Who I find HARD to find credible is Andrea and Carl at the moment the pair of them are annoying me so much.

Ohh I have a gun I'm an adult. Yes his world has been uprooted but heaven's sake the gun is as big as he is and what about the kickback most kids would be on thire arse. YES I know Shane taught him but still hard to believe .

How much ammo they are whining about running low but the amount they use is thire any wonder?

One last small petty gripe as well now how come the cars that Ricks lot drive are always CLEAN I mean straight out of the showroom not a dent mark speck of dirt ? :( .

First series ALL the cars looked used .

Now it is like head to the nearest showroom

It is the believability at the moment that I feel is lacking. NO :ohno:. More :emb:.

Wow !! I loved reading a woman's perspective of this series:D I miss Dale :'( he was the voice of reason. The whole triangle with Shane,Rick and Lori started to piss me off......but then Shane was gone and I miss his Hot headed personality. The whole car cleanliness is due to advertisement, every commercial break they would show that suv. I'm tired of that car!!!! One more thing.......T-Dog for Life!!!!!!!!

For me the women other than Michonne and Carol are too weak.

Maggie and Beth have both got potential but are being second fiddle to Glenn and Judith. So many have been underused T dog Axel and Andrew Glenn.

Andrea has always been along with Lori the worst type of female ohh a better deal comes along and I'll have it.

Shane wasn't that phwoor Hot headed yes however he was more stupid at times .

It is Ricks transformation from Lawman to lawless . His mental state is unraveling is sublime to watch it could be played in a way that it comes over as ridiculous . The way he is shutting himself down from being with the group.
