AMC Upcoming Original Series: The Walking Dead

AMC Upcoming Original Series: The Walking Dead

AMC has greenlit The Walking Dead as a six-episode series based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. The Walking Dead tells the story of life following a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home. Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually, Teachers, Strike Back) will portray the lead role of Rick Grimes while actor Jon Bernthal (The Pacific, The Ghost Writer) will portray the character Shane, who worked with Rick in the police department before the zombie disaster. Other cast includes Laurie Holden (The Shield), who plays Andrea, one of two sisters who join the survivors of the zombie plague, Steven Yeun as Glenn, an expert scavenger and Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break), who plays Rick's wife Lori.

The Walking Dead begins production in June in Atlanta with six, one-hour episodes for season one. The series is set to premiere in October 2010 during AMC Fearfest, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films. AMC announced development of The Walking Dead in August 2009 and announced the pilot in January of this year.

About the Producers
Robert Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. David Alpert from Circle of Confusion serves as Executive Producer. Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter, The Shield, Dark Angel) will also serve as Executive Producer, and Jack LoGiudice (Sons of Anarchy, Resurrection Blvd) will serve as Co-Executive Producer.

"AMC strives to make original shows that play like movies and The Walking Dead is a perfect complement to the network’s celebrated movie franchise, Fearfest, which has always been an important destination for our audience," said Charlie Collier, AMC President. "With its depth of story and the remarkable talent attached, The Walking Dead gives us an opportunity to raise the bar significantly within this popular genre, and continue our commitment to being the home of premium programming on basic cable."

"The Walking Dead is that rare piece of material that plays on many levels," says Joel Stillerman, Senior Vice President of Programming, Production and Digital Content. "Kirkman's series brilliantly captures the social commentary and ongoing human drama of the zombie apocalypse; and let's us kick a little zombie you-know-what from time to time."

I'm excited for Abraham, Rosita and Eugene to show up. I hope they don't wait until end of season....

I think Norm could have been a bit more scared, but I guess that's what happens when you deal with zombies so much

Good Episode last night.

Was a bit confused with all that was going on in Michonne's dream, the dynamics of what happened, other than that was very entertaining.

Although of course rick is not going to die, like so stupid. Although I guess Carl doesn't know that

yeah, I really enjoyed how they worked in "Michonne's Story" from the comics/Playboy. although, it was surreal more than a back story. plus, she didn't have a kid in the comics (that we know of).

Seeing Hershel made me sad :(

After watching the first couple of episodes I thought it's started off a lot better than the whole of the first half of the season.
The only episode that was really that interesting was the
part when the governor shows up with tanks and such
at the end. The rest of the first half was really disappointing.
Looking forward to tonights episode though! :)

What is at Terminus! Discuss! Friendly or Not

My opinion: It was a stronghold but they will arrive and it will either be run by military or have already been decimated by zombies

I wonder if the group that was in the House with Rick and Found Daryl are .................The Hunters from the Comic?? This could be very Interesting:D

Terminus............only Death..............maybe;)

Yeah I was thinking about that too, but that happened so long ago. I dunno if that storyline will be fleshed out as it were.

So your saying no one can lead a happy life on TWD

Hell No!!! Look what happened to the Poor people from Woodbury:D

Volume 9 is right after the Prison
Volume 10 is Abraham Joins
Volume 11 is The Hunters

I know it happens after the prison in the comics but I doubt this will be the same Hunters also remember how that series ends,

they would then have to likely kill someone else, and doubt they will go to cannibalism

didn't catch my fleshed out comment

I get it!!!! :D I read your post to fast ;)

Why wouldn't they explore that route?? I mean we're looking at a side story for the psycho kid so why wouldn't they explore. .......the other Meat? We have possible candidates to be Killed Off like Beth, she's been talking to much and we know what happens next. Ben could to but I'm thinking they have a bigger story for him.

I hope they don't kill off Beth. She's the only one with any kind of positive outlook on life. Without her, it would just be Eastenders with more people coming back from the dead.

As for Terminus, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a trap where the people there are experimenting on other survivors.

I'm loving walking dead and this season has been just as interesting.

I just googled Terminus :

the end of a railway or other transport route, or a station at such a point; a terminal.
synonyms: station, last stop, end of the line, terminal; More
an oil or gas terminal.

2.
a final point in space or time; an end or extremity.
"the exhibition's terminus is 1962"

^

So perhaps they might go for both meanings end of the tracks and also an end of extremity (eg a safe place). I'm not familiar with the comics but I've seen the basics of it on the Internet.

Potential spoilers from comics below :
So far TV series is still loosely following comics so perhaps terminus will be TV series Alexandria safe zone? Or perhaps it will just be the Santuary?

I'm also agreeing with everyone that the group with Daryl is The Hunters. Beth's exit in the car is interesting as could it be father Gabriel stokes or highly unlikely, negan (won't show much more of Beth except for a scene at the end of season in which it shows negan and S4 ends).
