The way I look at this is that this is just another version with a different cover, it could be a completely different film for all I care. The 1st edition is still, and probably will stay, the most sought after. The simplicity of the artwork on the original may even make it seem like a premium version if this is just a rehash of amaray artwork.

The original is still the version that I want the most so if anyone who isn't happy with this release wants to sell to me, then please feel free, for a good price of course, there is a re-release on the cards after all :naughty:

I think Flip was being flippant. And maybe a little hopeful.

no not hopeful, why would i hope for it? i already own 3 versions of iron man, just stating the obvious if zavvi continue with reprints/reisues whatever you want to call them, isn't a reprint of iron man on the cards

I probably read too much into your remarks then. ;) I meant to say that it is not established yet that there will be an IM or IM2 soon. Whether it is inevitable or not is arguable.

I don't think it would make any difference whether there is a reissue of IM or IM2 - I expressed these views in post #220.

It's inevitable really. It's only been about 18 months since Captain America and Thor, so I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to do Iron Man and Iron Man 2 again.

I agree, I assume Play.com rights to the steelbook exclusives (Rakuten's now I suppose) have a time limit and when that expires there's nothing to stops new releases if the studio OKs it.

The 1st edition is still, and probably will stay, the most sought after.

Judging from the amount of UK Thor steelbooks now hitting ebay, it seems that the popular perception is that the value of the first release is set to drop, even if that might not actually be the case.

Long term, the Zavvi exclusive will be the rarer edition (as the other artwork was released globally), so maybe that will eventually become the most sought after?

If Zavvi want to do it (it's good business sense) then that's fine by me.

For all I care it could look identical in every way to the original. I have the HMV version and it's worth nothing financially to me. I opened it and have watched it several times, that's why I bought it.

If it has new artwork (which we're told it will), all well and good. I still won't care as I have a copy of the movie already.

I suspect it'll end up as a 1-discer anyway which for me wouldn't be as good as I prefer Blu-ray/DVD combi's as it is.

We went through the same arguments, fears and expectations when play.com announced that they will issue IM and IM2.

Well......IM FS's value is higher now than then.

8,000 IM FS were issued vs 4,000 IM Play but IM FS is more sought after.

Why is it more important to have a more "valued" steelbook.

If you were new at collecting you would like the opportunity to buy this. It does not effect the HMV one at all.

Those who moan will probably buy ANOTHER edition of Thor and Cap.

No one would complain if it were a Inc. Hulk edition releasing?!

I have Thor and Cap from HMV, this does not effect me at all. Think some people just like to complain, and really its pathetic.

My opinion, we are all entitled to one!

based on what wreck said about this having previously approved artwork for the cover(used in amarays previously) i created one based on that restriction...kinda the image on the front is a simplified version of the one used on the amaray covers just showing thor.

and please excuse the sloppy nature of the photoshop editing, just wanted to show an idea i had without spending to much time to making it.

inside art would be this

zavvi should employee you!

YES! While I would of preferred a reprint, I'm just happy I can finally complete my phase one Avengers Steelbook collection with Thor without paying over £60 or whatever for it. ^^

Perhaps if we're lucky, maybe the Avengers (All except Hulk) could assemble this Saturday and go live for ordering? XD

"It's good business sense". I like that, seems kinda hard to understand though. I tried using that statement on another thread, didn't seem to fly. If your HMV Thor is worth nothing financially to you, then hopefully you purchased it on release date for what it retailed for. If you bought it recently, and opened it to watch, then it wouldn't make any business sense would it? There are alot of cheaper identical, or even opened versions you could have bought to watch.

I see some post staying "value" isn't important in collecting steels. Sorry, but value is the most important thing when collecting anything! How can you possibly justify paying $1 million for a comic book, with a 6 color pallet, simplistically drawn, printed on cheap newsprint? Only the value of money can ever justify that. So if you're one of those people that thinks value don't matter, I wonder if you truly believe that. If you do, I have a proposal for you.

I think when people say that "value" isn't important they mean resale value.
I personally don't care what my steelbook collection is worth as I'm not selling and I don't buy with the intention of selling.
I buy because they're my favourite films in the best packaging.

I think steelbook purchasers are divided into those who intend to sell and those who don't and that is where a lot of the misunderstandings take place.

I bought my Thor at retail price.

It has value to me, because I wanted one. But it has no financial value in the sense that it's not for sale. I have other things from childhood that I could sell on Ebay for stupid money, but they're not for sale at any price (that might sound crazy, but they're worth more to me than any cash figure) as I couldn't replace them. Even if I could with an exact replica, it's still not the same one.

To be honest, I buy things I want. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't care if somewhere down the line my item increases in value ten-fold, or even if it drops in value by the same amount. It's irrelevant. I still own the item.
