Blufans should work on contract agreement between them and Scanavo. I'm surprised Scanavo still holds 100% patent rights for making steelbooks -that's is real problem , because they can do whatever they want with saying -"Take it or leave it".
I feel sorry for small retailers like KimchiDvD, blufans , Nova(with very limited steelbooks editions) because they don't have power in negotiations as big players on the market. For how long they gonna hold patent rights? What we need is another steelbook manufacturer.
A bit off topic but all patents issued after June 7, 1995, have a term of 20 years from the effective filing date
So you will be waiting a long time for anyone else to manufacture steelbook unless scanavo licence another company to produce a steelbook or sell the rights of the patent to another company

Thank god for Zavvi, they'll do a much better job even if theirs isn't perfect either

Comparing Zavvi to Blufans? They issued refunds and credits for Wall-E and still I bet Blufans will smoke any release Zavvi ever does for Wall-E. I could be wrong there Disney Line is very good I'm not a Disney fanatic but the 5 I have from Zavvi the last two being Lion King & Beauty and the Beast look great. But the rest of Zavvi's "limited" SB's miss far more often than hit. I can't think of any preorder from Blufans I would return if I could get my money back. Certainly not the case with a number of Zavvi preorders. But comparing the few DisneyPixar releases that both Zavvi and Blufans have done I don't think it's even close to who's releases have won, is it? Gotta stop I could write a history paper :)

Blufans have had better releases for overall quality and packaging and contents up to now for steelbooks as have the likes of Kimchidvd/NovaMedia/Plain Archive

The Disney Steelbooks from Zavvi most have been very good especially with the ones that have been a gloss finish
If you exclude the packaging extras provided by Blufans and the other Asian releases we have just the steelbook itself

Zavvi coming release of Wall-e will most likely in terms of steelbook itself might end up as the better version as we can be fairly sure it will be a gloss finish
But even with that until we see Zavvi Wall-e steelbook in the flesh we wont be able to make a choice as to which one is better as it might be only 1 disc or 2 discs but it will be region B locked as all Wall-e releases are region locked to its release region

We may see soon what the Zavvi artwork will be but as we seen before until its in hand we don't know for sure what the final product looks like as photo of artwork can look good or look average but in the flesh can be amazing or average or a mess

If Blufans Wall-e have of been full gloss and packaging was as it was originally meant to be most of this discussion would not have been talked about

Blufans will still win on overall packaging as its a Lenticular and Full Slip and we don't get that with Zavvi steelbooks unless that changes

Lets wait till we have the actual Zavvi Wall-e Steelbook in hand to compare it to Blufans Wall-e Steelbook
Some will like one or the other either way

I agree with most of what you said, the packaging we already know which one will be better but as far as just the SB if Zavvi's is full gloss it could be better. When you bring up Zavvi I have had so many bad preorders I get a little angry.
So I agree we should wait to reserve judgement, got all excitable!!

I agree and I don't fully understand the discussion here. Blufans did not have any other chance than to release this matte version of the steelbook and did all they can. And we all knew beforehand how the steelbook and goodies will look and not after we received the steelbook, like with many zavvi releases. I guess most of us think the glossy version would have looked much nicer but unfortunately it was not possible for Blufans to release it like they wanted in the first place. I still like the Blufans version very much and also hope the zavvi version will look nice. The collectors that don't want to double dip can wait for the zavvi version and decide afterwards which one to get.

What this is is an obvious overreaction by the masses. Because if a lack of gloss finish, Chinese title (even tho some have admitted before now that they like Chinese titles) and region locked discs (even tho some of zavvis disney discs are region locked) it has come to a piling on of sorts especially with no one having this in hand yet. Instead of waiting to get this in had many have already condemned Blufans for situations that were out of there control instead of giving them the benifit of the doubt and realizing they tried to respond the a bad situation the best way they new how with scanavo. Unfortunately this one of the many stages of a prerelease.

G&M has the patent on SteelBook ... Scanavo is the marketer of SteelBook and Scanavo has a few patents on the SteelBook case but mostly all dealing with the plastic and design (spine etc)

Scanavo does a great job marketing the product and many times are thrown under the bus. No one wants to piss off the studio, and no one wants to piss off client ... so who will pretty much always be the scapegoat ? ;)

As far as Walle .... *Best Buy enters the room* "What about me?" "You forget about me?"

I'd say any folk who sold the Best Buy/ Future Shop edition who loves gloss in anticipation for replacing that with this can react steamed  ... and that's probably just a small hand full  .... so you are correct in that regard.

The colorless background of the bestbuy release just doesn't do it for me.The photos seem pasted on the front and back and is free-floating on the cover.Aside from the gloss finish, there isn't really anything going for the design, artistically speaking.

Man, I just realised that the main disk is now region locked :( I was happy to live with the extras being locked but not the main disk. How do I proceed with getting out of the group buy now? I assume these have shipped already.

Region free 3d players can be bought for around $100-$125.That is way cheaper than having to continuously buying the "extra disc" to accommodate the steelbook purchase.Your small investment for a region free player is returned just after a few blu ray movies.

Look at above and the one in the OP, quite obvious which one looks better

I will say this ... If you havent held the BB/FS in hand opened not sealed .... then dont just go off pics alone. Maybe you have tho .... but what I found special about the original was that it was more than just gloss. And probably no "bare metal" steel that has ever been made sense has looked as good. Most folks who hate bare metal steels wouldnt hate this one. Maybe its cause of the thicker gloss back then and that satin? gloss print ... idk ... but they went all out. Can look dull behind shrink wrap till you take out too.

bottom line if you like Walle you got 3 kick ass steels to obtain or choose from. I personally fall asleep everytime I try to watch it lol ...

I've had the best buy and I do open all of my steels
To me, it's more about the design, layout and colors as mentioned previously. So that's where the BB release falters.Even if it's matte,if the design and colors are there,it's a go for me.A couple of recent examples are "Fury" and "Dracula Untold" from Walmart. The design and colors were very vibrant for matte. They weren't dull at all.In fact, to see the finish in matte, you had to angle it towards the light. That doesn't make it glossy, but thats the direction steelbooks are going these days. They have to improvise and it was also mentioned that the Blufans Wall-E has this new "matte finish" that is improved. Will just have to wait and see...

Yeah Im not knocking the walle blufans as I havent seen it ...

But I do know the zavvi matte disney steels were a let down for me. Their gloss ones were amazing. They had the right designs they just needed to be gloss.

and yeah I like some matte steels, just depending on design and title mostly ... but me personally preferably I like my "kids" movies gloss ... whether it be pixar, disney etc.

Spot on Wreck. A lot of the people who put this down probably never held a copy in their hand, because if they did, the woulld realise what a great steelbook it is.

Personally, the choice of art (no excuse for a plain back) and finish are a million miles away from BluFans previous efforts and IMO aren't worth the expense of buying and importing these when there are better options available.
