Warner Bros. Wave - May 7, 2013 (Blu-ray SteelBooks) [USA]

A new wave of Steelbooks coming to the USA, due for release on May 7th 2013-appearing at multiple retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Barnes and Noble, in-store at Costco, etc.

Small update:

actually about 3-4 titles will have inside art.

I'm confused. I know it says Canada wave but sound more like something Bestbuy US might do. Blue banner is similar and many titles from the recent BB waves are listed. Any word on retailer?

I could be wrong but Heat steelbook was still available through FS until recently and still available through amazon CA. Why re release a product already in the market

I like this news of upcoming steelbooks, but honestly I don't understand. Some of the titles were already released as FS Exclusives. So, has the FS exclusivity been expired or is FS releasing these steelbooks with some re-releases?

Jay, a few examples.

'Exclusivity' can be given to a retailer at any given time, and for any given market (country, region, etc). The studios choose whether to re-release movies (whether it be Steels, Limited Eds,etc).

Sometimes a title may be exclusive to a specific retailer in a specific country only, or 'tradewide' (across all retailers in a specific country). Other times, a retailer may have a 'worldwide' exclusive art (no other retailer has the same cover), or 'worldwide' exclusive period, where no other Steelbook is available.

Yes, exclusivity can expire (i.e some releases were Media Markt (Europe) exclusives at first, but months later, Amazon.de carried them. Other times studios may never decide to release a film in Steelbook, or re-release it, either with the same art, or different art.

Regardless of re-release (and they are not very popular among many, while they are accepted by many), Steelbooks are still 'limited' in the sense that not as many are printed, as say the regular Amaray. Others still are very limited because there are only x in existence with a certain slipcover, stickers, art, etc.

Generally, the 'value' which could be 'personally' or via $ (rise in value over time, or resale/retrade value) is assigned by an individual-'some' factors that matter to some collectors don't matter to others, and so on....like many things it comes down to taste, preferences, priorities and other factors, for each collector, as to whether they are interested in a certain Steelbook or not.
