The Fox DVD steels like The Fly got me hooked on steels and that then followed into blu ray.

nice thread

i can't remember for sure what was my 1st steelbook (may be a G1 "million dollar baby" - France) something between ET/The Thing (both G1 as well but not in my collection anymore) and 1st Play.com orders back in 2012. Took me years before i get into the business ... Today I still get avg 10/mo zic

The fist release that got me interested in metal packaging it's not a steelbook but it's cool for it's embossing was anchor bay 25th anniversary release DVD The Long Good Friday in a metal embossed slipbox released in 2006

My first DVD Steelbook was UK From Hell Collector's edition released in 2007 that is what got me into purchasing steelbooks in DVD format

My first Blu-ray steelbook I purchased was The Wolfman in 2010 and this started my crazy Blu-ray Steelbook collection I have purchased since

The second Blu-ray steelbook I wanted was the Psycho UK release from August 2010 but this was sold out when I went to order back in 2010 and only got this last year

As to what my favourite is overall from my collection I have so many now it's hard to make that decision

Would have to be these 2:-
1. 2012: Mainly because it's the first minimalist zero front art UK steelbook (not counting the 'pimp my ride' F&F 1-4 stickerbook) with its elegant matte black finish and metallic silver embossed title . . . also because it's quite different to the busy slipcased Amarays that came out in the UK at the same time.
2. PULP FICTION: For the opposite reason - because it complements the slipcased Amaray and is of the same design (although the Amaray has spot glossing to the artwork, to the title and to the "A QUENTIN ...).
Spot the difference? The Amaray is on the far right with yellower "DIRECTOR APPROVED" sticker and different position/colour of "MIRAMAX".

my first steelbook I bought was Gridlock'd on DVD ...that was in 2006. one year later I bought Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which has a debossed title and that was totally new to me at the time. since then I prefer steelbooks.
but the steelbook that touched my heart as no one else before and that also brought me to the premium edition scene was this beauty:

Either Casshern or Cloverfield DVD steelbook, it's been so long that I can't remember which came first. I was very selective in the beginning though and it didn't become an obsession until around the release of Zombie Flesh Eaters, Return of the Living Dead and Demons 1+2.

First for me was Spielberg’s War Of The Worlds gloss UK release. I was hooked after that.

Iron man Futureshop was mine. It was a love hate relationship ... at first I wasnt impressed for the price. Traded it off for what I thought was a great deal. Then I missed it .... and had to get it back. Glad I did, its now signed by Stan Lee !

Wow that is pretty awesome. Sometimes I wish I would live in the USA to get such cool autographs. :D
Really hope I can get my all time fav movie Pulp Fiction as Steelbook signed by my fav director Tarantino one day

Btw: as I told you guys in this thread, my first DVD Steelbook was the german Iron Man 1. But my first Bluray Steelbook was Captain America 1.
It was a birthday present from my sister. :) Back in the days she bought it in the store for the retail price :D

nice thread, @Apollon

surprisingly i don't have any in-hand shots on file of either, but the first steelbook i bought was by accident, and it was the steel dvd release for Stephen Spielberg's Duel. i didn't even know what a steelbook was. awesome film. :notworthy:
