I haven't seen the movie yet. Is this a good, Disney-worthy film? Regardless, it's a Disney steelbook, so I'm probably going in for it!

hoping this gets embossed, could be sweet! :scat:

100% agree. embossed and glossy and even the current front cover would look amazing. they should emboss the title and the entire face, and DEFINITELY glossy finish with that black background. if they do these things, this could be a real winner. if it's flat and matte... well... then that would suck wouldn't it.

So basically what you are saying is that people who don't like artwork are haters.

Gosh, what a helpful post.

No. What I'm saying is that every time a new steel gets announced people turn up and denounce the artwork and offer a ton of suggestions. Which is fine, as everyone has an opinion, but it annoys me when perfectly fine artwork then gets altered as a result. It happens a lot on Zavvi steels and they obviously read these forums and have made changes as a result in the past (look at 12 Monkeys, which has split people down the middle even after the change).

All I'm saying is that this artwork looks pretty good and just because it doesn't match what one or two vocal people demand, doesn't mean it should get altered. If it does get altered - then all those people who like this miss out. Plus, the suggestions put forward here are just the cluttered posters with EVERY character on, which is not needed at all.

Basically artwork is ALWAYS going to be subjective, so I'd much rather companies didn't always chop and change at the first sign of someone not liking it. This steel looks great as is, and companies should be able to stick to their guns knowing that, no matter what they do, some people will always want something different.

There have been a few alterations to artwork due to feedback on this forum. The majority of the time it has been a positive move and has been well received. Like you say artwork is most subjective, so you can't please everyone all of the time. It's this fact that makes your point completely void. Why is your opinion any more (or less) valid than the 'vocal one or two' (which is not even the case anyway)?

I think it's great that other members offer alternatives. There's no better way to offer criticism than in the constructive manner discussed and if it leads to a positive change, even better :)

How is my point void? My point was that Zavvi/Disney decide on the artwork so should stick by their guns - at no point did I say that they should listen to me over everyone else. I'd personally be disappointed if they did change the cover because a few people didn't like it but that is neither here nor there.

If people can prod them towards embossing/gloss or whatever then great, but to demand a total overhaul seems a touch extreme and it seems to happen on almost every new steel. Plus, you say that positive changes have occurred - which is true - but those changes still might not please everyone so it's only positive for the people that got their way.

Also, how is it 'not the case anyway' that a few people don't want this changing? There are numerous posts in this thread saying they don't like it, and a few offering alternatives, so clearly it is the case? Or do you mean it won't get changed in this case? As maybe I misunderstood. Clearly plenty of people like it, probably the majority of posts, so hopefully its not an issue. Plus, if people want a different look there is already another version out there.

Still, time will tell I guess. It just seems that some peoples standards are incredibly high and they want every steel to be tailored to their own whim. I saw this announcement, liked the look of it and would probably pre-order. Simple as that.

Plus, the suggestions put forward here are just the cluttered posters with EVERY character on, which is not needed at all.

couldn't disagree more. many times the poster captures the best artwork of the film. that's why it's published as a poster to sell the film. makes sense right?

The "poster" images that I posted in this thread (if done well) are all way better representations of the feel of Wreck It Ralph than the current front cover posted by Zavvi. Honestly I am often completely amazed at how much influence the whole "keep it classy and simple" crowd has had on the steelbook world.

So I'm here to bring the other side.

Avengers is a fantastic example. Riddle me this. Why on earth would a plain black "A" win over an image like the one on the left. It even has the same "A" right above all the Avengers. In any survey on any collectors forum, the pic on the left would have won by a landslide, yet somehow the brilliant designers "stuck to their guns" as you call it and chose the pic on the right.
