We don't actually know if Zavvi has any say over it but even if they don't they could still try and say something because at the end of the day Zavvi are trying to sell a product for them and if something gets a negative response which means people won't buy all the copies for full price (SOLD OUT my ass) then they have a legit reason to say something because all they would be doing is trying to help the studio make more money and themselves.

It's proven that they 100% definitely DO have a say, though in this case it may be WWA so it would be hard to get it changed by one retailer. I'm not excusing zavvi for the dozens of other crap steels though ;)

I know there are a few steelbooks that genuinely are Zavvi exclusives, but is there any actual evidence that they had any say in the artwork chosen?

Zavvi do love to 'big themselves up' by claiming to have some sway with the studios, but personally I'm not convinced.

Not sure what happened with this. I never received a new release alert, but fortunately received the "Only 200 Left" one while I was on my lunch break so managed to snag a copy. Shame the art doesn't match the other new X-Men steelbooks, although I'm holding off on them until I see whether they're going to do the original trilogy too.

Yes there is evidence in an interview they gave a while back, see my post in the Zavvi retailer feedback thread https://www.hidefninja.com/community/threads/zavvi-retailer-chat-europe.22531/page-247#post-1393788

I know about that, and even replied to it in that thread, The point is, that there seems to be no evidence to back up anything Zavvi say about it. In fact, it's a lot of hopes and dreams really. Using the quote...

"The dream scenario is a studio get back to us with the perfect image straight away, something that manages to convey exactly how we envisaged it looking; then it is pretty much done and dusted and can be with the fans within a couple of months. However, most of the time there are changes that need to be made or approval given by the studio’s headquarters in The States etc."

The dream scenaro - ie: what Zavvi hope for.
The perfect image - ie: yes, hopefully
How we envisage it looking - ie: we hope the studio makes it look decent
Most of the time changes need to be made - ie: the studio doesn't really listen to Zavvi
By the studios in the United States - ie: where exactly is the UK?

As much as I'd love the artwork to change on DoFP: The Rogue Cut, I just don't see it happening. Not when the artwork on Zavvi is identical to Amazon,fr and a blue version of the one on Amazon.co.uk.

I don't like the art but this is the best of the X-Men movies, certainly has the best fight scenes. I am going to want the extended cut regardless and with the Amaray $29.99 the price on the SB makes to much sense even if the color choice is terrible I would rather have an ugly SB over a slightly less but still ugly Amaray anyday.

bottom line.... sometimes Zavvi can influence change of art, sometimes they can charge art ... and sometimes its "take it or leave it" ... All depends on business relationships, studio control, and thus original movie contracts.

And in the case of global art its 99% no change. Tho we have seen some inside art or effects like debossing etc that have been different at times.
