I've been a movie nut since my childhood (over 50 years of viewing) & my question of what to do with my extra copy was just that, a question. It is cool that the Steelbook is, as of now, pretty scarce. Not my concern when buying a movie. Was actually thinking of just returning it but I do realize that some didn't buy this release. Would rather the extra went to someone that missed out?
I buy movies to watch, not collect, as it should be. The reason I bought The Deer Hunter (TDH), an incredible movie. After watching Zero Dark Thirty, not quite as good as I've read. Still a really good movie but didn't knock my socks off. Everyone here should watch TDH, a masterpiece of a movie. A different genre that is a classic? Animal House!!
Too many movies in 1080p that I already have on DVD, so am being selective when buying the Blu Ray version. I want to get Avatar but can't seem to find it in 2.40:1 aspect ratio, an important thing to me.
Please excuse the fact that I use my iTouch to post, why I have no "smilely's". I'm disabled (BAD back) & can't sit in front of my PC for long. And still figuring the forum out as far as avatars & such.
And, I come in peace, am not a lurker or trying to profit off anything. Forums like this are a good place to learn & share when possible.
I'll have to do an intro post, a good way of telling my story?
Sorry for another long post.
Again, thanks to all for the welcome!
Jeff
Anyone notice some strange image shifting at the beginning of ZDT during the start of the water-boarding? During close ups & seemed to be only one camera involved. Just me??

Don't take that post personally Jeff. With the increase in popularity of steelbooks there are going to be more people in the scene / forums. That in turn leads to more scalpers.

It's easy to tell from your posts that you are not simply trying to make a quick buck and nothing else.

If you do make money on a steel due to its rarity, don't sweat it. I guarantee there will be another 10 in your collection worth half what you paid. You seem to be on the right track IMO. Being selective is a must for me as there are so many mediocre releases, zd30 not being one of them :)

I really would love this, but I open and play my steels, and region A is no good to me. Love the design.

Get yourself a Toshiba 1200 (or 3200 if you want 3D) and flash it with the Aussie region switchable firmware.

That's what a lot of us UK people do since Toshiba Australia kindly gave you Aussies an option to do this. :D

Jeff, once again welcome to HDN and thank you for your participation. You can get more and faster responses to your questions in the "Steelbook Chat/Support" forum (look at the sub-forums section). The main steelbook section is focused on the discussion on the steelbook and that release to allow for rapid dissemination of information to our membership.

As for the availability and value of this steelbook, scalpers aside, the group buy for this "looker" is still open and last time I checked on ebay, there are auctions going on at below cost. As Malky said, with time and increasing popularity, most WEA steelbooks will become harder to find and more expensive to buy. And it will be the case of this title - low print run, worldwide exclusive artwork, "famously" important and controversial movie, and quality glossy finish with embossing/debossing treatment.

She is a beauty indeed. Even better naked in embossed glossy finish. Too bad this is not easily available to our fellow collectors worldwide otherwise it would be a contender for one of this year's best. In the batches I'd come across, I am highly impressed with the quality of this run - no torn shrinkwrap, no ripped stickers, no visible dents, no paint chips or scratches or loose discs, no slashed spine, one bent data sheet inside the shrinkwrap, and one misplaced sticker. I will admit I had ordered and picked up more than half the number placed in the group buy, all for fellow collectors across the Pacific Ocean (but kept many copies on the shelves here for collectors in the Pacific NW :)).

@ash got two copy's which arrived on Monday from my good buddy in NY. Both copies are mint and your right the quality of this Steel is way up there. Opened the second one to watch and am really pumped to see this film !! :scat:

The finish and the Embossing on this is

Defiantly a contender for steelbook of the year so far.

Is Ebay the ultimate source of "Sold Out" from Retail Stores? I dont think so.

Indeed the steelbook for ZDT vanished so fast but I highly doubt that ebay is the reason.

P.S.
surprisingly.there's only 39 active listings on ebay currently.this must be dwindling down already.
i thought maybe it might be in the hundreds since this has gotten a lot of attention.
